Her marriage to Prince Fredrick zu Wied does not seem
very grand....... a step down.  She being a HRH and he just a HSH.  Was it a love match or was it arranged? She and Fredrick were 2nd cousins.
Princess Marie zu Waldeck (Pauline's mother) & Prince William zu Wied (Fredrick's father) were 1st cousins.

Marie of Waldeck is pictured above with two babies.  Does anyone know who the children are?  Is one her daughter Pauline?  Marie died shortly after giving birth to her second child, a stillborn daughter, so these couldn't both be her children.

Those are BOTH her children. Pauline is standing and Prince Ulrich is on his mother's arms. Baby Ulrich was born in  28 July and died 28 December 1880.

Oh, I was always under the impression that Marie had just two children - Pauline and her stillborn daughter.  Was it recorded what Ulrich died from?

I didn't find any info. Possibly someone else can answer.

The two Gay kings of Württemberg were Karl and Wilhelm II.
Fancy a country where half of the kings were gay! Are any male lovers of the placid Wilhelm II known?
And does this mean that obese King Friedrich I was just dissolute, but not gay, despite the many rumours?

King Friedrich I was known for his disgusting ways and dissolute life, cruelty to his family, all in all he looked like a maniac, but I've not seen in sources anything about his homosexuality.
