Oh thanks a lot for sharing this beautiful painting! It's very poetic and wonderful. I'm so happy that I have found so much new paintings of Alexandra here, thanks a lot everyone  :)

Nicholas I had the room where she died transformed into a chapel, and the painting hangs there to this day.

Please can you tell me where this chapel is? In the Alexanderpalace? Maybe someone could post a pic of it? It would be wonderful to see the chapel  :)

Indeed. in Scholss Fasenerie in Fulda, there is a room dedicated to her as well. Her portrait & her dowry (mostly sliverware) were displayed there.

Oh really? Do you know which room exactley?

The Alexandra Memorial Chapel is located in the East Wing of Alexander Palace; I think it was a originally study belonging to Alexandra's mother, Alexandra Feodorovna.  You can see a picture of the chapel on the main Alexander Palace Time Machine page.

Here is a photo of a plate from Alexandra's dowry, complete with "AH" cipher:

Thanks for the informations and the pic! I really love the design of the plate.
Are there any paintings of her wedding or of her as bridge? I would love to see her in her wedding dress  :)

None that I know of, sadly, but I'd settle for any pictures at all--there have to be more that we haven't seen.  I like your avatar, by the way ;)

Olga and Alexandra as children.

Excuse me, please, but this portrait is not a portrait of Grand Duchesses Olga and Alexandra. It depicts the sisters Anna and Catherine Vasilchikova. Here is a quote from the article L. Karnaukhova, S. Archangel "True mirror of the Age": "While working on the catalog and exhibition have been clarified as the old and proposed some new iconographic definitions. The invaluable role played here materials of history and art exhibitions of Russian portraits, organized by S.P. Diaghilev in 1905 and held in the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg. She exhibited work 71 P.F. Sokolova. Photobank Tauria exhibitions are currently in the photo library of the State Tretyakov Gallery. Their study allowed, for example, to restore the once lost the names of two girls in fancy dresses depicted in watercolor, housed in the Museum V.A.Tropinin and long considered a portrait of Grand Duchesses Olga and Alexandra, daughter of Emperor Nicholas I.
It was found that Tauria watercolor exhibition was displayed and included in the directory as the image of sisters Anne and Catherine Vasilchikova. The portrait was a younger sister AA Vasilchikova, in marriage Baranova, and later in the family of her daughter Catherine Pavlovna. It was her husband, Earl K.A.Hreptovich-Butene indicated in the exhibition catalog as the owner of the portrait. Its origin, iconographic similarities depicted portraits of their parents Alexei Vasilyevich Vasilchikova and Alexandra Ivanovna, born Arkharovs give no reason to doubt that they are depicted watercolors. In addition, Tauride exhibition, as is known, often visited by members of the royal family, including a connoisseur of Russian portrait of Grand Duke Nikolai Mikhailovich, who certainly would notice a mistake in the attribution of watercolors, if it had been. Pardon me, then.  I found it on a Russian site labeled as Grand Duchesses Olga and Alexandra Nikolaevna by artist Sokolov.

LittleLulu, I think you didn't need to move your picture as the mistake was not yours but of those who had placed the image on that site. If the picture will be here with clarification (made by Alexandrina Sofia) then everyone who see the post be aware of the mistake. It's really important as that picture travels from book to book on the Romanovs with the description "Olga and Alexandra Nikolayevna".

I'm very sorry, but thanks for telling me that its not Alexandra. Should I take the painting away?

Can anyone tell me where Alexandra's family lived and when?  I think they spent summers at Gatchina Palace, but what about the other seasons?  Any information would be helpful; thank you in advance.

I am sure they spent time in Peterhof during Summer.
