AA answered a long list..
« on: November 28, 2005, 11:35:29 PM »
I've  read  that someone (Royal) submitted a long list of questions to AA and that she answered all (most) of them correctly. Does anyone here have a copy of those questions. :(sorry if this has been discussed before.if so,please would you direct me to the page.) If, you need a source ... I'll look for it. grazie ,M

Ciao Margherita,

I do not know where this list is.  Maybe one of the more expert people on here could look? ;)

There were probably several lists like this, but I think the one that you mean is that offered by Prince Sigismund, her German relative, who sent her questions from his home in Latin America that he said an imposter would be unable to answer. One of them, if I recall correctly, had to do with the housing arrangements at Spala during a visit he had paid to the Imperial Family. There is a description of it in The Search for Anastasia, I think, and probably some discussion of it elsewhere on this board, although I can't point you to it, sorry.

Some people have said that Sigismund's credibility in this matter is questionable, since he also supported Margda Boodts, who claimed to be the Grand Duchess Olga, and who was certainly an imposter.

But he was on record as being satisfied with Anna Andersen's answers.

Does this presuppose that Sigismund could accurately recall the entire household arraingements from a particular visit to Spala....? He must have been dead bored to focus on such matters.... ::)

I don't know if anyone really knows exactly what was on his list, but according to Sigismund, there were things about their childhood one the list that an imposter could not possibly know. There were also said to be several political questions on the list. Her answers convinced him that she was Anastasia. It would be interesting to see a copy of this list.

"Prince Sigismund of Prussia first ascertained Anna's identity by relying upon her essentially correct answers to the series of questions he posed to her in 1932 through the offices of his brother-in-law, Prince Frederick of Saxe-Altenburg. At this time Sigismund was living in Central America, so he asked Frederick to carry out this mission. Frederick would not reveal Sigismund's questions or Anna's replies  for many years, to avoid being accused of having supplied Anna with the answers. He later said she correctly identified her last meeting with Sigismund as being at the hunting lodge at Spala, in what was in 1912 the Polish provinces of Russia. Anna also recalled that Sigismund had stayed in the quarters of Count Fredericks, the minister of the court, and answered the 16 other questions quite accurately. While this was enough proof for Sigismund and by extension for Frederick, who had never met Anastasia as a child, it is very curious that anyone could recall such details 20 years after the event."

The Quest for Anastasia, p. 153. Klier and Mingay, 1999 edition.

I think that the last quoted sentence should be taken as the opinion of the authors, obviously, but the rest of this gives a sense of at least the kind of questions Sigismund posed to Andersen. Klier and Mingay also make reference to the "Anastasians", i.e. Andersen's supporters --- people like Lilburn and Aucleres --- feeling that Sigismund undermined his credibility by his support for Marga Boodts, the Lake Como claimant to be Grand Duchess Olga.

Was the entire list ever revealed?

How long did Anderson have to answer and return her test? If this wasn't an instant interview via phone, it is very possible she consulted her supporters who were helping feed her information and used them as her 'lifelines' 'phone a friend'  ;D

Arturo "Eurohistory" on this Forum, was well acquainted with Prince Sigismund, who lived in Art's country of birth, Costa Rica, for many years. Perhaps Art can help us with this topic?

I met Sigismund's son Prince Alfred of Prussia through Arturo years ago. As I recall, Alfred said that AA got the answers to the questions correct, but did not formally "recognize" her, because he never talked to her and never met her.
