I think it is an "idealised" portrait of her. Her sister who married Eugene, stepson of Napoleon was the beauty.

Indeed. Napoleon considered the idea of marrying her once but quickly changed his mind after seeing the princess.

Poor Charlotte ! After she "married" the crown prince of Wuttemburg, he would not even touch her finger while they were in the same coach togather...

Yes, it is sad, that Auguste Amalia (or Amalia Augusta) was great beauty, but I know only one picture of her:

Are there any others?

Princess Auguste in front of the Pagodenburg

Auguste by Stieler, 1824/25

Ich aber breite trauernd aus
die weiten weissen Schwingen,
Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -
Nichts soll mich wieder bringen.

Wedding of Auguste and Eugène, 1806 (Max I. and Caroline as well as Napoléon and Joséphine are also in the painting)

Auguste and her eldest son August

Auguste's children Joséphine, Eugénie, August, Amélie and Theodelinde by Stieler (the original can be found in King Max I.'s former bedroom in the Residenz, Munich)

I have seen the woman in this portrait identified as Auguste's daughter, Amelie of Leuchtenberg, empress of Brazil... I never thought it could be her mother Auguste, but come to think of it, the dress looks more like fashion of early 1800's rather than 1830's when Amelie was a young woman. So I guess it was misidentified.
Great pictures by the way!

I found it in the marvellous book "Die Herzen der Leuchtenberger" (means "The Leuchtenbergs' Hearts") by Adalbert Prince of Bavaria. He is a family member and identified her as Auguste, so I guess he's right.

Auguste and her eldest son August

That's not Auguste but Queen Pauline of Württemberg with her son Karl by Stieler.

@ Linnea: Really? Prince Adalbert misidentified one of his family members? I'm shocked... :-)
