well I found this picture of Marie's 1916 diary, and there's some weird white sticker that looks like it has been ripped off on top of the book, I wonder what that was, does anyone know?



And also, what material was the cover made from? looks diffrent from the other children's diaries!

Material is silk, I believe.

The white thing on top looks to have been just a piece of paper attached onto it labeling the diary.  Gotta keep stuff organized.

It could have been ''M''-I  think this very likely. I have seen this picture, and never noticed it before.

I don't think that Maria labeled it herself.
I mean, who would be that forgetful?
I don't know where that diary ever ended up, I have not read that much about the after-math of the Romanov massacre, but I think that it was probably labeled by the people (the Whites??) who found it, to tell it apart from the others' diaries. (NAOTAA)
Or maybe N & A labeled it (like we do today) as a present for Maria, like, "For our Darling Daughter, Maria".

it doesn't look like velvet to me. it looks like a very sign silk or somthing.

There is no complete "M", but if you look closely at the white ripped sticker/label on the top of the diary, you can see the curlicue beginnign of the letter "M".

It's not the only year she wrote in a diary- but her most recent ones she burned in Tobolsk.

Another letter that it could be is A, that is the only one that I can think of that was written beginning with that sort of curlicue.

ahh its the last days she was alive. got it!

it could have been any letter. like a K or a A like sofi said.
but i have no idea why it would be a K

i do think it was a M.

I've seen some sites with clips posted from each of the girls' diaries, but is there an archive online that provides most or all of the diary? How many did she have when she was alive?
