« on: December 17, 2005, 02:25:35 PM »
Hi!
I found out that this famous family hasn´t an own topic, so I thought I should start one! :)
The genealogy of the family (male line):
1. Duke Wilhelm in Bavaria (1752-1837)
oo Pfalzgräfin Maria Anna von Zweibrücken-Birkenfeld
1.1. Duchess Maria Elisabeth in Bavaria (1784-1849)
      Louis Prince de Neufchatel
1.2. Duke Pius in Bavaria (1786-1837)
      oo Princess Amalie d´Arenberg
1.2.1. Duke Maximilian in Bavaria (1808-1888)
oo Princess Ludovika of Bavaria (1808-1892)
1.2.1.1. Duke Ludwig in Bavaria (1831-1920)
            1oo Henriette Mendel (1833-1891),
            2oo Antonie Barth (1871-1956)
1.2.1.2. Duke Wilhelm in Bavaria (1832-1833)
1.2.1.3. Duchess Helene in Bavaria (1834-1890)
oo Herediatary Prince Max v. Thurn u.´Taxis
1.2.1.4. Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria (1837-1898)
oo Franz Joseph I. Emperor of Austria
1.2.1.5. Duke Carl Theodor in Bavaria (1839-1909)
1oo Princess Sophie of Saxony (1845-1867)
2oo Infanta Marie José of Portugal (1857-1943)
1.2.1.6. Duchess Marie Sophie in Bavaria (1841-1925)
oo Francesco King of Bourbon-Sicily (1836-1894)
1.2.1.7. Duchess Mathilde in Bavaria (1843-1925)
            oo Ludovico Count Trani (1838-1886)
1.2.1.8. Duke Maximilian in Bavaria (1845-1845)
1.2.1.9. Duchess Sophie Charlotte in Bavaria(1847-1897)
            oo Ferdinand Duke d´Alencon (1844-1910)
1.2.1.10.Duke Maximilian Emanuel in Bavaria(1849-1890)
              oo Princess Amalie of Saxe-Coburg(1848-1894)
1.2.1.5.1. Duchess Amalie in Bavaria (1865-1912)
oo Wilhelm Duke of Urach (1864-1928)
1.2.1.5.2. Duchess Sophie in Bavaria (1875-1957)
oo Hans Veit Count of Toerring-Jettenbach
1.2.1.5.3. Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria (1876-1965)
oo Albert I. King of the Belgians (1875-1934)
1.2.1.5.4. Duchess Marie Gabrielle in Bavaria(1878-1912)
oo Rupprecht Crown Prince of Bavaria
1.2.1.5.5. Duke Ludwig Wilhelm in Bavaria (1884-1968)
oo Princess Eleonore zu Sayn (1880-1965)
1.2.1.5.6. Duke Franz Joseph in Bavaria (1888-1912)
1.2.1.10.1. Duke Siegfried in Bavaria (1876-1952)
1.2.1.10.2. Duke Christoph in Bavaria (1879-1963)
                 oo Anna Siebig (1874-1957)
1.2.1.10.3. Duke Luitpold in Bavaria (1890-1973)

Here ends the male line of the family as none of the male members of the family had descendants. The current head of the family is the grandson of Duchess M. Gabrielle, Princess of Bavaria, Max Emanuel, who has "only" female descendants himself...
I know there is a photo topic on Empress Sisi´s sibblings somewhere, but I would love to discuss the members of the family as they are all very interesting!

Finally a topic on my favorite German family! My personal favorite is Carl Theodor because medical efforts and his nice personality, his lovely family etc.. I have more ambivalent feelings towards his sisters, esp. Elisabeth and Maria, who were all thrilling beautiful, but (very) difficult. :-/

Yes...I am thinking of combing the research I have done on the sister to do a book. Haven't decide a seperate one on the Duchesses in Bavaria or a more broad concept with other stories of royal princesses... ???

A good looking scientific and romantic prince that can keep confidences...no wonder he was a favourite in the family. (talking about Duke Carl Theodor of course).

What about collecting some pics of the lesser known family members, for example Carl Theodor's children Amélie Urach, Sophie zu Toerring-Jettenbach and Duke Franz Joseph?
Unfortunately, there aren't much pics known of Max Emanuel's sons.
And what about Amalie von Coburg, Mapperl's wife, and Sophie von Sachsen, Carl Theodor's first wife?

Although I've been collecting these pics for years, I'd love to see some more, maybe unknown pics.

Marc, do you have any portraits of some family members?  ;)

Thanks

Marie

Wonderful idea, Marie! Though I am sure your collection is unbeatable, I´ll start to post some pics:

Franz Joseph in Bavaria (1888-1912)

Duchess Amelie Urach with husband and children:

Countess Sophie Törring-Jettenbach

I would also like to learn more about Sophie as there is a lot known about her younger sisters Elisabeth and Marie Gabrielle, but not about her. Does anyone know more about her?

Linnea, I wrote a short biography about Sophie zu Toerring-Jettenbach some months ago for a woman in Oberalting near Seefeld, where Sophie once lived. I am going to send you the text, okay?  ;)

By the way, Eric ... Why don't you show us some pics of your collection? I can't remember that you have ever showed us one single pic.

Eric,

that's really a pity, because I think you have indeed a lot of rare and nice pictures in your collection.

I did a little research on your book. As far as I found out, there are pics of Queen Victoria and her family in your book, right? And it was published in Hong Kong - do you live there? Very exciting. Could you tell us more about it, please?

And have you already begun to write on your new book about the Duchesses in Bavaria? Are you going to write about Carl Theodor's daughters, too?

Hi,

No I don't have a lot, but quite a few nice gems that I picked up there and then. The response on my pictures in the book was so positive that I decided to publish a second one called "Royal Images" and share more with those who like these things.

Yes I do live in Hong Kong/San Fransisco. Both are nice cities. I do get to see my friend Arturo Beeche, whose bookstore is also located in the Bay Area, and is now carrying the book.

Yes I would like to discuss some more about my studies on the Duchesses in Bavaria. Do sent me a private message and we can talk. I felt it is not right to take up too much space here to talk about myself.

Thanks for your interest  ;)
