One hundred and forty five today. Yet through photographs it all seems like yesterday.
A very delightful birthday to you Nicky, you live on in those who know the true you, and we will never forget the goodness and sincere love within you.

Hear hear! Through all the difficulties of his reign and flaws as a leader I truly believe he wanted desperately to do what was right for his people. His legacy largely rehabilitated in death. 145th anniversary of the birth of a genuinely good man, great father and husband, and Last Tsar of Russia...Saint Nicholas Alexandrovich Romanov!

Happy 146th birthday, Nicky!
It's quite unfortunate that there are so many lies about you floating around, but those of us here have no doubt that you were a great man. And although you no longer live on this earth, you are alive not only in our hearts but also in Heaven, having received your reward in full, and the same goes for the rest of your beautiful family. Hearing about the courageous way that you and your family behaved before your death has turned many to God. I have no doubt that that was His will for you.
...because I rant not, neither rave of what I feel, can you be so shallow as to dream that I feel nothing?
"I saw a little girl, her eyes tightly closed, holding to the old kind world, one that she knew in her heart could not remain, and she was holding it and pleading, never to let her go.

I am always confused wheter to consider birthday (and other) annivesaries the original date of Julian calender or the date from Gregorian calender.... whatever the case, here a thought spared for the last Russian Emperor, who was far from perfect, but unlike many of his contemporaries and relatives had an idea of honour and heaps of best intentions.

Nicholas II, you were a wonderful husband and father, those are the two things your critics can never take from you.  A very Happy Birthday to you!

Did they even celebrate their birthdays (дни рождения)? I assume they celebrated their namedays (именины)?
The logical solution is to mark their birthdays New Style and their name days Old Style, isn't it?
Берёзы севера мне милы,
Их грустный, опущённый вид,
Как речь безмолвная могилы,
Горячку сердца холодит.

I use New Style for everything. And yes it seems their name days were more important than their birthdays. Kind of the opposite of (most of) the west in regards to multiple important dates on the calendar...

- Old Style instead of New Style used until after the Revolution
- Name Days more important than Birthdays
- Easter the more important Christian holiday than Christmas.
