I  suppose it high time I come out from hiding in the shadows and offer a humble "greetings to all," given so many of you have already provided me invaluable sources for my research.  Apologies for posting three new topics (questions) recently sans a proper hello.

My nickname is "Kiwi" given I live between New Zealand and New Mexico (USA), dodging bad bits of the cold seasons.  Perhaps my NM name should be "Chili."

This site has proven to be the BEST source for my investigating family relics (militaria/antiques) from the early 1900s, and my family's connection with Russia, especially between 1914 and 1922 -- strange that a family of Danes on business visas would make their way numerous times through Russia, Scandinavia, and the U.S. DURING the Revolution and through the entire Civil War.

Thanks folks.  Those of you who know political history (i.e. Anarcho-Syndicalists, and other non-Bolshevik revolutionaries), and those of you who know antiques and militaria have provided the best leads for books, experts, etc.

As for myself, after a fun academic career, I've turned to writing historical dramas.  Have completed two thus far (marketing stage), and am now collecting all the info I can on the 91st Dvinsk Regiment and the Anarcho-Syndicalist movement (the "dreamers").

Just this week, almost a year into my search, I found the documents that explain why my family was running TOWARD Russia during those turbulent times.  It'll be a fun story to tell.

Cheers,

Kiwi

Hello, I have been reading this forum for quite some time and I love it. There is a place with people just as interested as I am in the Romanov family and Russian history. I just love the fact that there are so many of us out there in the world.

A little about myself, I am from the Netherlands. I am a history teacher, and one of my favourite subjects to teach about is the Russian revolution. (although I studied medieval history, not modern history) Poor students, I cannot let this subject go without a detailed account of the Romanov family. But most of them do find it very interesting, especially the fate of the children connects with them.

I am looking forwards to share my love of the Romanovs with and to learn from all the people on this forum.

kind regards, Bettina

Griae, you are very welcome!

It's always a pleasure to have here (and talk with) someone with historical education. I envy you in a good way. I like the serious Russian history researching (historical philosophy, Russian problematics, revolutions, regime changes, intellectuals and ordinary people, etc...) but sometimes lack of professional historical education effected.

Waiting for your contribution here. But..., I must admit that the last Romanov's and Russian Revolution themes are for miles and miles away from the Medieval times;). I think that even one Russian Revolution with afterbirth Civil War is an order of magnitude more difficult, then all the Medieval times. But it's only my personal opinion.

"I think that if Shakespeare lived in our times he would not be able to write. Many of his works are not welcome on stage nowadays: The Merchant of Venice – anti-Semitism, Othello – racism, The Taming of the Shrew – sexism, Romeo and Juliet - hideous heterosexual show..." - Vladimir Bukovsky.

Thank you both, Aleksandr Pavlovich and Nicola De Valeron for your kind welcome.

Nicola, I agree with you about the difference between medieval history and the Russian revolution. That is why I consider myself an amateur reagarding Russian history. I have no wehre near the same amount of knowledge about this subject than a lot of people on this forum.

Aleksandr, how nice you are also a mediaevalist, you find us in the strangest places!

kind regards, Bettina

Welcome Griae ! While the times and their  histories are different, human nature remains the same. That is what makes history interesting to me, that is the bridge between any two times in history  :)
