I just noticed today that the bars were also visible in these watercolors of Aleksei's classroom and the playroom:

Good find Are the bars on all the windows or just some I wonder ...perhaps just the family wing?

wWonderful EmmyLee! There are photos in a rack in the bottom left hand corner...one looks like a portait of Ella and Serge....like the '90s or early 1900

This photos  I made myself   in Alexander Palace  15 . 10 . 2011
There was  exibition with some old  photos and paintings of the rooms .
