Another sad spam attack.

Dear Forum Users,

As some of you may have noticed, we were the subject of yet another awful spam attack with spurious "postings" which advertised links to pornography sites.  PLEASE accept our apologies for such an unacceptable intrusion, and for the brief "maintenance mode" delay while I searched out and removed all of the postings (at least I think I did. if I missed any, PLEASE PM or email me ASAP with the exact location of any such postings.)

Given that so many educational institutions, schools, teachers and parents come here with the children to use the forum, it is all the more imperative that we keep such filth out. Thank you to all for so vigilently alerting me to the problem, and please accept my apologies that I was away from my computer for over an hour, sadly at the same time this spammer started up,  before I came back to discover what had happened.

No need to apologise FA, it wasn't your fault! I was online and managed to delete the ones in the threads I moderate. It's a shame that some sad people have so much time on their hands they use it up doing such stupid things . . .  :-/

For those of us who've never had to deal with such excrement--and even for those of us who have--it might remind us of the scene in Nicholas and Alexandra when OTMA encounter the rude scribbles made by a few of the soldiers.

So, congratulations and good riddance to the cretin with the boring life who caused the inconvenience. And next time, bud, just go stick your head in an oven, okay?

I most certainly believe that there are no apologies necessary. We know that it wasn't your fault, FA. The only thing that apalls me is that such a cretin would post such an awful invitation to sin, on such a fine site as this!

Wow... I don't come online for a few hours and I miss everything. Sorry I wasn't online to help Mod if any of those posts happened to land anywhere where I could have helped.  :-/

Laura - they were coming too fast and furious for me to keep up with - the only way to get rid of the filth was to shut down.

On the plus side, when something like this happens, you always find out who your friends are. We have two great friends in Grand Duke and Kimberly - both who PMed me immediately. With their info, I had Bob on the phone in minutes and we were able to start solving this.

I can't believe someone could be bothered to waste their time posting such filth.  I was mainly outraged because children come on here, and how anyone would want children to see the likes of what they were posting is beyond me. I just don't understand the mentality of these people.

I wish I'd been on to help on the Forums I moderate. I had a few messages waiting for me but I'm listed as online all the time because, with my cable modem, I don't sign off from the computer. I feel somewhat guilty I must admit even though, as people have pointed out, it's the creep who spammed the site who's at fault. Still, I wish I'd been able to render some assistance.  :-/

GDella, no need to feel guilty! As Lisa says, the only way to be rid of it was to shut down for a while.

Can we do anything about this 'administrator' person? I've PMed FA but he's not online.  None of the moderators are.

I wouldn't want anyone to see anything inappropriate.  I feel helpless!
