This mansion, "The English Cottage" was designed and built by Maples & Co. who also supplied most of the furniture. We were contacted by Maples in London late last year, as they still have the designs and bills for the mansion, and they also supplied some pieces for the Winter Palace.   Nicholas and Alexandra were so delighted with the results, it led to the design of the Maple Room in the AP.  This is the source of some confusion by those who think the Maple Room furniture also came from Maples & Co.  It did not.  Meltzer based his designs on some Maples furniture, but it was custom ordered and built by others.  "Maple" Room refers to the predominant use of Maple wood with touches of Pallisander, in contrast to the adjoining Pallisander room with touches of Maple.
