What does "en odalisque" mean?
The portrait really is beautiful. I love the little jeweled circle on the fan!

That one is very lovely, but she looks rather sleepy... Undecided

A lot of her pictures seem to have her looking rather tired...perhaps that's why I think she doesn't look so beautiful in some images. Huh

The portrait "en odalisque" is painted by Boulanger (I think Gustave Boulanger) in 1860 and gived by the Empress to her lady-in-wainting Madame de Carette in 1880. She described the portrait in her memoirs (the feather on the hat is of a red ibis).

I also tought that the odalisque was a photo!! Shocked

(At seeing that the fan even still exists!!) This Boulanger must be Gustave Boulanger, I think that the style in this painting is the same than on G. Boulanger paintings!
