I wonder whether it was just painted in a similar style, or that the painting of ML was basically just done with a sketch of her features as the basis, and that the rest all fake?  You're right they are VERY similar.  Even the page boy carrying the train looks the same!

I am busy reading a biography on Marie Leczinska, wife of Louis XV.  It is really an eye-opener.
Did you all know that whilst she (as a young woman)was in exile with her father in Wissembourg, before her marriage to Louis XV, it was predicted to her by a woman that she will be Queen of France?  It was a poor peasant woman with her child, and Marie taking pity on them, gave the woman the only golden coin she possessed as they were very poor themselves.  The woman in thanking her, then said to her that she will be Queen of France.  At the time it was quite absurd as it was well known that Louis XV was engaged to be married to the Infanta from Spain.  Talking about a premonition  Grin

even tho this was written ages ago..what is this bio called? i love la Bonne Reine Marie, she is often overlooked tho =[

In the Court of Louis XV Saint-Amand mentions that Madame Pompadour was told by a fortune teller that She would be the Mistress of Louis XV at nine years old.

These fortune tellers of the eighteenth century were amazing, but to my mind a bit suspect.  Marie Leczinska was told she would become Queen of France, Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson was told she would be the King's mistress, and Maria Josepha of Saxony was told she would be Dauphine of France.  Did they perhaps tell every royal princess who crossed their path that they would be a Queen or Dauphine of France, and every non-royal girl that she would be the King's mistress, with the result was that the few for whom this actually came true were more impressed than they ought to be?

I haven't come across one on Queen Marie Leczinska so I am interested in the name of the Biography myself. I thought perhaps they had gotten it confused with Pompadour. But yes, it is looking like there were an awful lot of fortune tellers floating around.

I believe that the Queen`s maiden name was LESZCZYNSKA. not Leczinska. This is the original spelling of her family name. it is pronounced LE SH CH Y N` SKA.
