There are threads I think on Leopold II, Charlotte, Louise and Stephanie. Also a recent one on Philippe and his family.

She was a daughter of the very rich Ferenz von Kohary, an aristocrat with great estates in Hungary. Ferenz was so pleased with the marriage of Antonia with a member of the Coburg dinasty that he made the daughter the heiress of a great fortune.

Coburgs were minor princelings, with a notable lack of connections to the royal houses and not wealthy. If the first wedding coup was the marriage of lovely Juliane with a russian grand duke, the Coburgs had the great coup when Ferdinand was engaged to Antonia von Kohary.

Was not this the marriage that started the "Coburg Curse"?

Hi,I would like to know more about the relationship between Queen Victoria and her 6 first cousins(von Mensdorff)...One of them became later Prince von Dietrichstein zu Nikolsburg and one of them(I think Arthur) was a diplomat! So are there any particular mentiones about their relationship(besides the fact that Count Mensdorff is present in the famous group picture from Coburg) and did she ever meet all of them since they were mainly Austrian subjects...If anyone knows anything about this?Thank you!

Count Albert Mensdorff was at many weddings in England and abroad, including Sandra Coburg's. He was a very familiar figure to his English relatives and was frequently mentioned in the Court Circular.  He was an active diplomat for the Austrian court and in 1889 transferred to London, where with short intervals he was ambassador from 1904 to the outbreak of WW1.

Here's a bit about some of the family:

Here is a brief outline:

Sophie (aunt of Victoria and Albert) (1778-1850)
m. Emmanuel, Count Mensdorff-Pouilly (1777-1831)

Children:

Alphonse (1810-?)
Alexander (1813-1871)
Hugo (1816-?)
Arthur (1818-1904)

This information comes from Uncrowned King by Stanley Weintraub.

I do believe there were others and I'm not sure why the "?" appears in the dates for two of the brothers.

Here is a link to a bio of Albert Mensdorff, the diplomat, who was the son of Alexander.

And a link to a history of the family and the family seat.

Is there a thread about the Saxe-Coburg-Kohary ? I am particularly interested in knowing a little bit more about Princess Clothilda of Saxe-Coburg-Kohary daughter of Augustus and Clementine d'Orleans. I know that Clotilde married the Archiduc Joseph of Habsburg, Palatin of Hungary and that they had a large descendance, but no more. A book is going to be published in Belgium I think this august 2007 about Clémentine d'Orléans, I wonder if some one heard about this book already and if it will contain information about Princess Clotilde. Thanks for helping !

There's this thread on the Kohary's:

http://forum.alexanderpalace.org/index.php/topic,9663.msg267584.html#new

Using the search function might bring up more information as well since you can be more specific in your inquiry (ie searching about Princess Clothilde in particular).

Thanks for this information. However the thread does not seem to be working : the message reads " topic either missing or off limit for you ". Is there anything particular to do about that ? Thanks.

Yes it does work, thanks ever so much. As the Kohary family is not " truly speaking  " a mediatized family, I had no idea that there might be a topic about Kohary in the chapter " mediatized family ". I hope some one knows a little bit about Princess Clotilde of Saxe Coburg Kohary ! Many thanks.

Two sons of Sophia Pss of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and Emmanuel Gf von Mensdorff-Pouilly married two girls from Dietrichstein family. Alfons Mensdorff-Pouilly married Therese, from younger Dietrichstein line and after her death he inherit the castle Boskovice. Then he married again, Gfin Marie Lamberg, who gave him two sons. Descendats of these two sons are still living on castle Boskovice.
Brother of Alfons, Alexander, married another rich heiress from main Dietrichstein line, Alexandrina. Shortly after the dead of last Dietrichstein prince, Alexander acquired Dietrichstein titles and properties (castle Mikulov in south of Moravia) and he and his family were from year 1868 titlet as Princess Dietrichstein-Mensdorff-Pouilly. Alexander was diplomat too (in Russia, England, Sweden) and 1864-6 was Austrian Foreign Minister. He resign after the war in 1866. Last member of these princely line is Mercedes Dietrichstein.
