Actually, Belochka, this feature has been available for several years and we've had difficulty getting people to submit them. To date, none have been sent to me! I have no control over this, or over the editorial content of what is sent. I would like to get some for the site because I think it would be useful. As everyone has said, books are a major expense so it would be helpful to know just what's what before purchasing.

Lisa,

Maybe you never received any "book review" submissions because perhaps most assumed that this thread provided that function?

Yes and no...book reviews do contain the slant of the reviewer...if one purchases books based on someone else's opinion...you may be cheating yourself out of something you may have otherwise liked or enjoyed...

Literary opinions are only a rough guide. I may strongly disagree with what was written about a specific book. It could relate to "who" offered the review or the manner in which it was presented. However if the theme is critical to my collection, then I still go ahead and purchase the book regardless of any review. That book may sit there on the shelf unread until one day I find that it can be of practical use afterall. That is why I try to purchase every book I can according to my specific interests.

Does any one know whether royalties are paid out to remainded (pristine condition) books? We have a massive warehouse (Academic Remainders), here which specializes in this type of bookselling. About 20% of their stock are current lines in traditional stores, except thay are heavily discounted. The turnaround is such that they publish a monthly newsletter for clients advising us of "new" stock.

As far as I'm aware -- and I can only speak for the American children's book industry -- authors are NOT paid royalties for remaindered books.
