Wildbad Kreuth, where Carl Theodor died in November 1909.

What exactly is Wildbad Kreuth ?
Bad=Spa
A hospital, a spa, a hunting lodge (seems too big) ?
I know he was a reputed ophtalmologist.
Was that his clinic ?

And where did Carl Theodore and Marie-José live ?
Possenhofen ?
Which was their palace in Munich ? Any photos ?

Did his elder brother inherit any family property given his morganatic marriage ?

In 1817 Max I. Joseph, King of Bavaria bought Schloss Tegernsee and some other buildings. Wildbad Kreuth was among them. The area around the lake Tegernsee is called "Tegernseer Tal". There are some nice little towns in this area. One of them is Bad Kreuth. Wildbad Kreuth is located in the south of Bad Kreuth. Actually only this building you can see on my picture (taken last week) is called Wildbad Kreuth. Today it belongs to the so-called "Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung" where people have seminars. In Bavaria Wildbad Kreuth is also known for its CSU- meetings (CSU is a political party in Bavaria).

In 1875, Prince Carl of Bavaria, Carl Theodor's uncle died. Carl's sister Ludovica inherited the castle of Tegernsee and Wildbad Kreuth, but she gave them to her favourite son Carl Theodor. One year later, some weeks after the birth of his third daughter Elisabeth, Carl Theodor and his family went to Tegernsee. They were in Wildbad Kreuth for hunting. Some days before his death, the Duke went hunting, too.

After their wedding, Carl Theodor and Marie José lived in Possenhofen. Since 1876 they lived in Tegernsee. The ducal branch of the Wittelsbach family had a beautiful palais in Ludwigstraße / Munich, where they usually lived in the winter. It was called "Max-Palais", because Max in Bayern (Carl Theodor's father) gave the order to build it. Max, Ludovica and her sons moved in this palais in October 1832. Today it doesn't exist anymore.

Carl Theodor had different clinics in Merano, Tegernsee and Munich. When he got older, he gave up his work in Tegernsee and Merano. The famous "Carl Theodor Augenklinik" in Munich still exists and has a very good reputation.

Duke Ludwig Wilhelm "Louis", Carl Theodor's elder brother, lived in Schloss Garatshausen at the Starnberger See not far away from Possenhofen. Duke Max bought Garatshausen in 1834. But I don't know if Max gave his son this castle as a present or if Louis had to buy it. Later Louis sold Garatshausen to Empress Maria Anna of Austria who gave it to her favourite nephew Francesco II. of Naples who was married to Ludwig's sister Marie. I don't know when and why Marie sold this castle, but today it belongs to the Thurn und Taxis family. I've also read that Helene, another sister of Ludwig and hereditary princess of Thurn und Taxis, lived in Garatshausen, too.
As you can see: Garatshausen had many owners, but has always been connected to the Ducal Family.

Here is the link to the Homepage of Carl Theodor's hospital in Munich:

http://www.augenklinik-muenchen.de/

It was founded by Duke Carl Theodor and his wife Marie José in 1895.

Where did Carl-Theodore and Marie-José live ?
Possenhofen ? Tegernsee ?
What about their Munich residence ? Can someone post any photos ?

Did Carl-Theodore inherit all the family properties or did Ludwig inherit any despite of his morganatic marriage ?

Dear José,

you asked quite similar questions in the thread about Carl Theodor. I answered them yesterday.

But once again:
After their wedding in 1874, Carl Theodor and marie José lived in Possenhofen which was actually the summer residence of Duchess Ludovica, Carl Theodor's mother. In 1875, Ludovica's half-brother Carl of Bavaria died and Ludovica inherited his possessions around the Tegernsee, e.g. Schloss Tegernsee, Wildbad Kreuth, Gut Kaltenbrunn, ... But she gave all these buildings to Carl Theodor. That's why the Duke and his family moved in Schloss Tegernsee in summer 1876 shortly after the birth of Duchess Elisabeth, later Queen of Belgium. Carl Theodor and his wife usually went hunting in Wildbad Kreuth. In the winter the family lived in a beautiful Palais in Munich, the so-called Maxpalais. The Palais doesn't exist anymore.

Duke Ludwig didn't inherit anything.

You're welcome.  :)

Max Emanuel "Mapperl", his wife Amalie and their three little sons lived in Schloss Biederstein. It was located in Schwabing which is a part of Munich. Actually Queen Caroline of Bavaria, Mapperl's grandmother, lived in Biederstein until her death in 1841. Ludovica inherited the castle, but gave it to her son Max Emanuel in the late 1870's. Biederstein doesn't exist anymore.
