Does anybody have pictures of Madame Barbe de Rimsky-Korsakov, other than the F.X.Winterhalter Painting.

                                                  Thanks                 Kaiserin Sissi

Hello !
This is a real photograph of Madame Varvara Rimsky-Korsakov (1833-78). It is from the exhibition catalogue "La Comtesse de Castiglione" musee d'Orsay Paris 1999. Winterhalter prepared it and took it as a sketch for a portrait he painted in 1858.

Does anyone know if there exist books about her life ?

Greetings
Alice

The thread about Winterhalter: http://forum.alexanderpalace.org/index.php/topic,482.0.html

The very rare painting of the photo posted above:
The photo was taken by Robillard.

She was called the "Vénus tartare"... A little bio in the exhibition catalogue about Winterhalter at the Musée du Petit Palais  in Paris (30 october 1987 - 10 january 1988).
