I've just found these three films of Nicholas II visiting Riga in 1910.  I thought they might be of interest.

Here's the link :

Fantastic Laurence!
I love the films. I think what I love most, is the old music that most-likely went along with viewing the films back in the day.
Thank you for posting these!  Smiley

Oh Helen you have got to try again as you are going to love those film clips.  I also loved the music and especially the vintage recording of God Save the Czar.  It always makes me cry.  I collected 78 records for years from the opening decades of the twentieth century and those cheerful marches that were also played as One-step dance tunes really captures the feeling of that period.  Well anyway I hope that Helen is able to see those films.

My, those were fun to watch. The last one reminded me of high school marching band, with the soldiers marching and the music. I love seeing new clips of Nicholas and his family (though unfortunately, they weren't in these ones). I agree that they don't last long enough.

I agree-- all very  interesting, but remember that movies didn't have sound until 1927, so the sound effects and music were added later.

Thank you so much! I too love seeing their family moving because most of the time it's just still pictures.

Thank you again, Laurence  Cheesy

Thanks Lawrence - this is great. It is the first time I've heard 'God Save the Tsar' sung in Russian.

You'll find a link on this thread, reply #35:

Nicky's Voice

There's also a translation of the clip and a moment-by-moment breakdown of when Nicholas speaks.

(I found it by doing a search on "voice".)

You don't have to pay. Here are instructions I posted earlier on the other voice thread (reply #27) for the free download:

Quote
Click on "Free" and then you have to wait a few seconds while your so-called 'download ticket' is prepared.

Now, below the 'download via' list that appears, it says "No Premium user. Please enter here." Below that there's a square full of random letters and numbers. Look at the square full of letters & numbers -- four of them will be larger and darker than the rest. Next to where it says "here" is a little blank box. Enter the four letters and/or numbers that appear in extra-large print, then hit  enter or click "Download from...." Voila!

If all you see is the "Payment-possibilities" chart, you've scrolled too far!

There are other films as well so scroll down and to the right you'll see a short list.

Also, use their "search" and write in Nicholas II Tsar of Russia.

There is a short for National Geographics which is interesting to see.
