Oh, Helen! How I long to see the palace for myself in person. But I can't tell you how much I enjoyed seeing your video. You're right that pictures only tell half the story. I look forward to seeing the other videos. Many thanks to you and to Bob!

What a wonderful video===thank you so much!  Though I would dearly love to visit there myself, it is unlikely that I will---so I very much appreciate seeing through the eyes of those who have!!  :) :D  I have a question, too:  where was the family's kitchen garden located( the one they worked in captivity)?  I try to see from the photos, but can't quite make it out.  Thank you!

Thanks, Alibubba, I hope you do get the chance to go some day.

According to the AP curator, the family's kitchen garden was located on the other side of the palace, towards the park and the canal. Right now that entire area is overrun by huge weeds, and fenced off with barbed wire. But I do have videos that area too, which Bob was supposed to post, I am not sure why he hasn't yet. If Bob doesn't get the chance to do it in the next couple of weeks, I will see if I can upload the rest of my videos and post them myself.

Absolutely fascinating!  However, I understand that part of the building is still occupied by the Russian Navy.  I can't help but think it wasn't THAT long ago that filming the building would have resulted in an immediate confiscation of the camera at best, and an arrest at worst.  The fact that the video shows absolutely nothing that would be of value to any intelligence or military organization would have been completely immaterial to the Soviets...

I guess things do change, even in Russia!

Helen,
I really enjoyed the video and am anxiously awaiting the video of Alexander Park!  I've never been to The Alexander Palace (or Russiia), and the park maps are helpful, but it's hard to determine the distance between buildings and structures in the park.  It seems like it should be easier to find pictures of the park and bridges from other tourist that post on the web, but not this forum.  I hope Bob will upload your other videos soon Helen!  Thanks

Thank you. I hope Bob is able to upload the other videos I sent him soon, especially those of the park. Bob, please let me know if you don't think you will have the time to do it any time soon, and I can try to do it myself, although I can't promise the soundtrack! I have never tried you-tube, so if anyone wants to volunteer to help me do it, that would be appreciated. I am sure it can't be that complicated.

Hey Everyone!
I am just posting to let everyone know that Helen's remarkable videos are now up! Helen contacted me back in December, and I sincerely apologize to everyone, especially Helen for the time it has taken me to get these online.

The Videos include more footage of the Alexander Palace, Children's Island, Feodorovsky Cathedral, Feodorovsky Gorodok and a tidbit on the Catherine Palace!
So without further Ado:

 :) :)

Many thanks, Laura; Bob, and we others are lucky we don't have to pay for your services and expertise!

Of course also major thanks to Helen who is often our eyes on Tsarskoe Selo and the AP. It was especially neat to see the Children's Island and their little house. I'd seen black and white pics before but this was obviously much better and gave me
a better idea of its distance from the Palace. One can almost picture the GD's rowing over there to play.

I also enjoyed seeing Nicholas' statue and plaque behind the Feodorovsky Sobor. It's simple but quite resembles him.
Interesting  too that even on a beautiful day there didn't seem to be many visitors. I've known it was like that but I'm still surprised though not necessarily disappointed.
 Again, well done!  :) :)

Thank you Helen, Bob, and Laura for those lovely videos! I visited Catherine and Alexander Palaces in early June, 2006, and the day was very much like that in the videos - speldid weather, sunny, warm, the lilacs in bloom... I didn't have any video camera back then, but I took many photos there, and the videos brought the memory of that unforgettable day so vivdly back to me.  :)

Great Helen!!  I've only watched one so far, running late for appt....   I wish you could have zoomed in thru the windows on the right side and also into the parade rooms,  are there people watching or would this actually be possible?   At a glance, it looks like we could peek into the parade rooms and see what is left of it.  Thanks so much, its so exciting to see actual footage of the  palace.
