Windsor coffee table books.
« on: August 22, 2006, 06:29:38 AM »
Are there also nice "Windsor", coffee table books?

Or do you know other coffee table books about other Royal families (not Romanov)?

Teddy, there are dozens of such books, on both the Windsors  and other topics regarding royalty. Just 3 on the D&D of Windsor are  THE WINDOSR STYLE- Suzy Menkes, THE PRIVATE WORLD OF THE D&D OF WINDSOR- Hugo Vickers & THE JEWELS OF THE DUCHESS OF WINDSOR-Culme & Rayner.
There are several  on the others, particularly a glut of them on the late Diana, Princess of Wales and not a few from the recent Jubilee of the Queen.
Books on the continental royals, both collectively and individual families, books on palaces, jewels and heraldry & genealogy.
Robert Golden has a nice series of "small" coffe table picture books, as does  William Mead Lalor [Royaly before, between and after the wars]
There are some lavish books on the Indian and Asian monarchies. And the Ottoman and Pahlavis dynasties as well !
Several auction catalogues serve quite well as coffee table books- Windsor, Hannover, Princess Margaret, etc.
If you have any in particular you are interested in, let me know and I can tell you what I have. Also Arturo has a great selection of  such books
I am sure this thread will build up quite a list in itself !
 Cheers,
 Robert

CROWN & CAMERA- Dimond & Taylor and QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S CHRISTMAS BOOK come to mind.
Marlene probably has more to suggest on her, Windors are not really my specialty.
There is a lavish Royal House of Savoy, which I cannot find at the moment. It concentrates on the Savoys since the unification of Italy and is in Italian I think. It is a picture book though, the names & places are easy to identify. Arturo probably has more on that one. When I find it I shall post the details.

None of them are quite as big as some of the Romanov books but there's also:

Queen Victoria's Family by Charlotte Zeepvat

Developing the Picture by Frances Diamond--a large, recent book on Queen Alexandra and her love of photography. Many photos.

Nikola and Milena by Marco Houston--a nice fat book that deals with Queen Elena's parents so there are a good number of photos of Elena in it

Casa Savoia--this is a photo book on the royal house with a section on Elena. The copy I have is trade paperback size and softbound though.

Edward VII and Queen Alexandra by Helmut & Alison Gernsheim--nice fat photo book
They also serve who only stand and wait--John Milton

There are 2 other coffee table books by Princess Maria Gabriella called Gioielli di Casa Savoia (ISBN 88 831 0206 1) e Vita di Corte in Casa Savoia (ISBN 88 370 2413 4) with sections devoted to Queen Elena. Both books can be found on Internet. The pictures of the first one are especially gorgeous but I was a bit disappointed with the 2nd one.
Paperback size and softbound though it is, Casa Savoia is a must-have imo - one of my favourite books.

Hi! I have two questions:

-Do you know coffee table books about Pahlavi dynasty? I have never seen any :(

-Do you know more photo-books about Duke and Duchess of Windsor?

Regards and thanks in advance! ;)
