Palace confusion!
« on: September 02, 2006, 04:41:11 PM »
Hello!! Im new to this forum (first time tonight!) and i apologise if im writing this in the wrong bit. I just wanted to have some help on my confusion with the Russian Palaces.

I know that there is the Winter Palace and the Alexander Palace. Which was the main home of the Romanovs? the Palace in which they spent the majority of their time growing up/Ruling Russia? or could some one even tell me what happened in the palaces and what was done differently in them? sorry for all the questions! i just keep getting told different facts.

Thanks for your help

The Alexander Palace was the main residence of Nicholas II and his family. The imperial family had private apartments inside the Winter Palace, but NAOTMAA considered the Alexander Palace their home. At various times of the year, they also spent time in the Alexandria dacha at Peterhof, the new palace at Livadia, and their hunting lodge in Spala (Poland).

Nicholas II himself grew up in Gatchina Palace, outside St Petersburg.

To learn more, read the threads in the "Discussions about the Alexander Palace" and "Discussions about Other Imperial Palaces" boards.

There was also Livadia palace on the Black Sea coast in the Crimea, as well.
