Ohhh, No -

I was hoping that this new production on her would show us a more historical correct Empress Elisabeth and now we're about to have the same romance as the Sissi-movies made of it. Sad, one could do so much more with her story. It is a story of tragedy, a restless woman, her flaws and her good qualities, her love for Franz and how it faded.... Why always show a perfect romance, while it was anything but a perfect romance - yes it was a match out of love, but it did not last, and that should be known by the world.

And if it will end with the Hungarian Coronation then so much of her life will remain unknown, to the big audiences, and keep the magic of the Sissi-movies intact - and that while there is so much more to be known, the loss she led, from Max to Rudolf's death at Mayerling, which would make her even more restless, up to her own death.

It seems the hopes for a historical correct production, once again, will be dashed.

is the lady with the white big hair is Archduchess Sophie? bahahahaha!!!!

I really liked the Sisi movies (starting Remy, what a beautiful woman, wow ). The cloths, the acting where great! one of my favorite historial/fiction romantic story. Plus Sisi wasn't that really that nice in my opinion, she was rather cold to me.

Mayerling (Ava Gardner)

A movie from 1920's (excuse me, I don't know the name of the actress)

I watched the miniseries last week. I liked it, although it didn't seem to realistic. I loved the actress chosen to play Sissi because she had the right looks. Klaus-Maria Brandaouer portrays a different Franz-Josef: I love the actor, but I am not sure that he had the right looks for that role. Rudolph was portrayed as a romantic, idealist young man: that is correct, to a point, though. I didn't like the way Stephanie was shown: is it that bad to want to be responsible and assume all the responsibilities coming with being royalty? Looks that her assuming her role as future Empress got her estranged from Rudolph. Strange...

I finally finished the fiirst, in a series of three, video's about the Empress Elisabeth.

So as this thread is on movies about her I'll post those here.

Empress Elisabeth, A Perfect Life:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8Tzu-W2U4k&feature=channel_page

This is about how she wants a perfect life, after she married, but the court, it's stiff way of life and Archduchess Sophie prevent that, though she fights for the right to rais her children. A timeline is added.2 more video's to follow from Sophie's death to that of Rudolf, and from the on to her own death.

Here are a few others, taking place in Sisi's life, she is no character though:

Mayerling(1936) - Who Wants To Live Forever:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaD-Ds8rlcw&feature=channel_page

Mayerling(1968) - Who Wants To Live Forever(other version):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMINyL_YHO8&feature=channel_page

Mayerling - Rudolf and Mary, Du Bist Meine Welt(with English subtitles):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdzD7c6TEgc&feature=channel_page

Also a friend of mine, from Vienna, is sending over a movie on Empress Elisabeth's life - Though she didn't mention the title. She said it is one of the better movies on her, being correct to the events, 'not a great prodcution but a good movie' she said. Also she is sending over 'Kronprinz Rudolfs letzte Liebe'(1956) wich was mentioned in this thread before as being a correct movie on the events surrounding Mayerling, though too romantic - again.

As soon as I've seen both I'll tell you all what I think, and post screencaps.

In 1939 Bette Davis played Charlotte in the movie "Juarez".
