Ludwig I of Bavaria married Therese Saxe-Hildgurghausen in October, 12th, 1854.
In honour of this wedding, began the ultra-famous Oktoberfest.
But why is it ... in September ?
Because of the weather ?

Can soneone post photos of Ludwige and Therese ?

Dear José,

Queen Therese died in 1854, a time when photos were rarely taken. I've never seen one of her, but I would be very interested.

Here is a photo of Ludwig I.

Crownprince Ludwig by Angelika Kauffmann. It took her two years (1805-07) to paint it.

King Ludwig I. by Joseph Stieler, 1825.

Ludwig and Therese by F. T. Berg, 1818. In the background you can see Aschaffenburg.

Ludwig, Therese and their children are watching a painting that shows Prince Otto's arrival at Greece.

I have always been told by Bavarians that the timing of OktoberFest is linked historically to the PRE-wedding festivities and celebrations, while the name was adopted sometime afterward in order to recognize the actual date of the marriage as well as integrating the honoring of the fall harvest. Does this track with everyone else? thanks!
