HRH Prince Carlos Hugo,Duke of Parma, father of Prince Carlos, has been admitted to hospital due to his suffering from prostate cancer.
The Duke of Prama is under treatment for several years now,but this recidive turns out to be extremely serious. So much so
that HRH deemed it fit to call upon his next of kin to a refer to and acknowledge his eldest son as the Duke of Parma in a manifesto issued earlyer.

Prince Carlos, who married Anne Marie Gualthérie van Weezel in a civil ceremony in march this year,
might cancel the preparations to the religious wedding ceremony in Brussels later this month on the
28th due to his fathers condition.

The manifesto is seen as a goodbye by the Prince.Truly sad indeed,he is always seen as one of us,one of the
Orange Nassau Family closests and dearest since his marriage to HRH Princess Irene in 1964,even their divorce did
not change the sympathy we Dutch have for Carlos Hugo.He is a wonderfull father, and uncle to the plentyfull
children of his former wifes sisters, but also a very very close and very dear friend of HM Queen Beatrix.

En las manos de Dios.I hope it will be soothing comforting Hands that will enlighten him and spare him for more suffering.
God Bless you Carlos Hugo.

The manifesto issued in Barcelona last monday:

The religious wedding on august 28th in Brussels has been postponed due to the critical condition of HRH The Duke of Parma,
this is contrary to the Duke's wish but understandeble in light of the situation.A later date has to be set yet.
The couple was already married in a civil ceremony last june in The Netherlands.

Carlos Hugo,Duke of Parma, former husband of HRH Princess irene of The Netherlands is dying at a hospital in Barcelona.

Please, include Carlos Hugo,Duke of Parma, and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Very sad,as this day was choosen by his eldest son and Heir,Duke Carlos Javier and Duchess Annemarie,as their

I thought it was quite unusual that Carlos Hugo attended the celebration for the British Queen Mum's 100th.  I was glad to see him there but thought it was a bit unusual.  Does anyone know why he was there?

Also, besides the Dutch Royal Family, did he maintain relations with any of the other Royal Houses (reigning or not)?

And,ofcourse, his uncle was married to the Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg thus the former Grand Duke Jean is
his full blown cousin,as is HI&RH Archduke Otto of Habsburg, his mother Zita,Austria's last Empress was an aunt of Carlos Hugo,
so there are family ties there too. These few in itself are impressive I would say,and then add ofcourse his former-in-laws to whom
he always remained a warm and dear friend. At the last State Visit of his dear friend Queen Beatrix to Belgium,Carlos Hugo and his
eldest son were also invited for the dinner. He was a modest man,he really was,and one would never ever assume this lovely man
had such a pedigree,he was too kind and one would have walked by him without knowing if you didn't,dressed in jeans and gymshoes or what are they called, just very comfy no fanfare no here comes the Duke,he didn't need that,no,there always was his smile and shaking hands ment he took your hand in both of his and looked you straight in the eye.Time will comfort, and only time.
