I thought it was quite unusual that Carlos Hugo attended the celebration for the British Queen Mum's 100th. I was glad to see him there but thought it was a bit unusual. Does anyone know why he was there?
Also, besides the Dutch Royal Family, did he maintain relations with any of the other Royal Houses (reigning or not)?
He was invited. There are more and good relations among members of Royal Houses, more then even todays press,
or what calls itself that, can find out.
And,ofcourse, his uncle was married to the Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg thus the former Grand Duke Jean is
his full blown cousin,as is HI&RH Archduke Otto of Habsburg, his mother Zita,Austria's last Empress was an aunt of Carlos Hugo,
so there are family ties there too. These few in itself are impressive I would say,and then add ofcourse his former-in-laws to whom
he always remained a warm and dear friend. At the last State Visit of his dear friend Queen Beatrix to Belgium,Carlos Hugo and his
eldest son were also invited for the dinner. He was a modest man,he really was,and one would never ever assume this lovely man
had such a pedigree,he was too kind and one would have walked by him without knowing if you didn't,dressed in jeans and gymshoes or what are they called, just very comfy no fanfare no here comes the Duke,he didn't need that,no,there always was his smile and shaking hands ment he took your hand in both of his and looked you straight in the eye.Time will comfort, and only time.
