I have a question  I wish to know if their were any twins in the Imperial family? Even though I know the joke between Nicholas and Geroge the V.  Thanks :-)

Yes there was one pair of twins: Grand Duchess Militza Nicholaievna, the wife of Grand Duke Peter Nicholaevich, gave birth to twin daughters Marina and Sofia in March 1898. Sadly only Marina survived as Sofia was too weak. She was laid to rest in Kiev where her paternal grandmother was abbess.

It was Nadeshda who was Sophias twin sister, not Marina Wink

Oh right. I must have thought of Marina of Greece, the youngest of the three daughters of Prince & Princess Nicolas of Greece. Roll Eyes

Hi,

Also, weren't there twin girls born to Grand Duchess Vera Constantinovna, who married into the Wurtemburg family?
I seem to recall that they were named Elsa and Olga and lived to adulthood.  There's a picture of them with others at Nicholas II's coronation.

But, would this count as being members of the Russian Imperial Family???

What is kind of interesting is that there were nit more twins in the family, as it was a large dynasty, especially towards the end. I think that is a rather intriguing. As for those girls you mentioned, they would most likely be considered members of the Wurtemburg family.

There are several pictures of Nadeshda but no of Sofia as she only lived for some hours.

I only read a letter of GDss Ella to Empress MF (dated August 21,1889). GDss Maria P. got ill just at the time of the wedding day of Prince Georgiy of Leuchtenberg and Princess Stana of Montenegro (future GDss Anastasia Nikolayevna), then she was near to death after a hemorrhage and miscarriage.
