Identity of one of Alexei's Nurses in 1906?
« on: June 05, 2009, 01:03:48 PM »
We have just acquired this photograph for the APTM archives, along with another portrait of Alexei alone, by Bulla from 1906 (the other is up on the Alexei photo thread). Does anyone have an idea who the woman may be? It appears to be one of his nurses.  Any help would be appreciated, as this photo, and the other are quite rare, and have never been published as far as we can tell.
Sorry for the watermark, but we don't want the image for sale on ebay after being pirated by some lowlife scumbag.

I do not know who the woman is (it is not Wishniakova) but the toddler is definitely not the Tsarevich. The face is much different and the dress/shoes seem not to be of "imperial" quality either :) Same for the portrait on the Alexei thread

Since questions are being raised, may I pose an alternate thought/Devil's advocate stance relative THIS photo:  Perhaps a wife and son of one of the sailors of the "Standart," wearing his father"s cap (adjusted), rather than an out and out fake or whatever?   Perhaps the photo/s was/were inserted in a Bulla cardboard frame, etc. ?      AP

The photographs were taken by Karl Bulla, Imperial Court photographer.  Who else would be wearing a Standart cap and have their photo taken by Bulla??  Bob is convinced it is indeed Alexei.

Karl Bulla's studio signature is embossed into the Photograph itself, not on the mount.

Very strange....... I'll be interested to follow this one along.  "Thomas Hesse's" comment about other contemporary boys in "Standart" caps is interesting.    AP

I thought it could be Wishnyakova.  Honestly, it is hard for me to believe that is him. Also, K. Bulla toke mostly informal photos. IMO, it could be him, if we consider only to him was allowed to wear 'Stanadrt'  cap among children.

... I thought it could be Wishnyakova. ...

That's also what I thought when I first looked at the photo, but I'm not 100% convinced...

The child is not more than two years old, considering the was he sits probably even younger. Alexei had long hair through all 1906 and probably also in early 1907. Timeline is all wrong.

Also - this photograph is supposed to be taken after the 1906 famous photoshoot. But if you compare the "height and weight" of two boys, the one "after" is actually smaller! You can see it when you look at photos of Alix with Alexei.

Even though this thread seems idle, I thought I would post nonetheless... What makes you think the woman in the photo is one of Alexei's nurses?
