Yes, he is holding a picture of himself in uniform of Prezobrazhenskiy regiment.

The other lady is not GDss MP-elder.

I agree with Svetabel., Its not Maria Pavlovna Sr.

I concurr it wasn't Miechen. She looked like some lady-in-waiting or minor German princess.

The dress of that lady looks way too "plain" to be Maria Pavlovna Sr.

The New York Public Library has a copy of this photo too in their collection. The only one of Ella on her trip to the Holy Lands.

The most probable thing is that the site took that picture from the NYPL since its also using colored pictures taken from here...

That would make sense. Since I made inquires there when I visited the library earlier this year. 

Probably a well known picture, but I didn't see it in this thread, and I think it's a really nice and relaxed picture of the couple. And I have a strange liking of pics of royalty smoking.

Can't remember seeing it in Bomann-Larsen's biography.

Thanks for sharing the photo. I've only seen it in a much smaller version before. It's always good to see a better version which is unwatermarked.

Thanks for sharing, it was from the Norweigan book. It also included another one of Ella that wasn't copied here.
