Hi Bonde,

If you can find the book, there is a large volume which discusses the Caucasian nobility in the Russian language: The Families of the Nobility of the Russian Empire volume III  Princes written by Stanislav Dumin & Petr Grebelsky, 1996, Moscow.

This tome contains all the families from that region. Family crests, photographs and genealogy charts are also provided.

;) Good one Olga.  Didn't know this family was "princely," must have been some generations back!

Actually, I have a friend whose surname is Gopadze. She has some tsarist memorabilia given to her by her father.  *His* father was one of the physicians to GD Georgij during the times he was in the south to try and improve his health.  Some of the items she has were given by the tsar to her grandfather.

Her own father escaped Russia during the revolution by going through Turkey, where he found enough connections to get in touch with the US Ambassador, who helped my friend's dad to come to the US, where he graduated medical school.

I found the book "The Families of the Nobility of the Russian Empire". It was very interesting! And a book one really can recommend. There was even a nice picture of The Head of the Imperial Dynasty, Grand Duchess Maria of Russia! :D

But I wonder who the family where that stood with the Georgian flag on one of the first pages in one of the books (Volume 2?)? I think it was some of the Bagratids but I am not so sure. Can someone say who they are?

Re: The Families of the Nobility of the Russian Empire volume III  Princes written by Stanislav Dumin & Petr Grebelsky, 1996, Moscow - where can I buy this book? I am researching the Tumanishvili name and this seems to be a book that would have the information that I am looking for. The fact that it is in English makes it even better.

You were not looking at Volume Two but rather Volume Four. In the front of the book "Noble Houses of the Russian Empire, Volume IV, Princes of the Kingdom of Georgia" by Prof. Stanislaw Dumin and published in Moscow in 1998 by Likominvest, appears a photograph of HRH Prince Georgii Iraklievich Bagration-Muhkransky and his wife, three sons and daughter in front of a Georgian flag.
