The haunting theme song Прекрасное далеко (Beautiful far-away) from the Soviet children's science-fiction TV series (Visitor from the Future) from 1985: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uorTBkuTkMQ
I suppose time travel had somewhat other connotations in the Soviet Union than in the West. As you can see from the stills in the beginning of the video the mysterious woman from the future looks eerily similar to Grand Duchess Olga Nikolayevna in the 1914 official portrait. The boy protagonists even follow her to the basement of an abandoned house, where there is a door to the future....

Yes. Great music. I have never seen the series but I came across the music and I listen to it often.

The girl looks like a little Olga. But I admit that I will not have made the connection.

As the principle of this topic is to talk about Russian music, I'm going to share some of my favorite artists.

I will start with Pelageya, singer of Russian popular songs, which belongs to my favorites in the style:

A small sample of my favorite interpretations. It is a Russia so warm, so "emotional", so poetic.

I keep the titles in Russian:

Любо, братцы любо

Не для тебя

Вишня Белоснежная

With three other artists, a cappela:

I'm sure I've heard this tragically beautiful song before, in Romanov movies and videos, but I've never paid attention to it untill I stumbled upon it on YouTube:

Всё теперь против нас = All is now against us, by Yuriy Arkadyevich Borisov.

This White Russian lament was actually not written during or just after the Civil War, but by a Soviet citizen (born in 1944) in internal emigration.

What a beautiful piece.

Amazingly chilling and to the point, isn't it?

=
There is nowhere left to retreat, beyond the Sea of Japan
Here ends our Russia and here is the end of us.

[...]
=
Only the grief of the Mother of God for Russia is mine.

OMG this song / music video (from a Soviet children's? movie) makes me cry like a baby - and from the comments it seems it has the same effect on many Russians: A train journey through the Russian land, with all the passengers just waiting melancholically for the Soviet Union to end. Soviet childhood, life, death, Russia - everything so tragically beautifully blended together in a way that evokes OTMA's last journey.

YouTube: На дальней станции сойду = I'll get off at the far station
(The whole clip from the film, including a touching encounter between the boy and a forester: YouTube: Из фильма "По секрету - всему свету"

My attempt at translating the lyrics:

На дальней станции сойду,- = I'll get off at the far station;
= The grass waist-deep!
And well, alone with the past,
Бродить в полях, = roam the fields,
Nothing, not worrying about anything,
= through the cornflowers, blue silence.

На дальней станции сойду,- = I'll get off at the far station;
= It smells of honey!
= I'll drink the water of life next to a crane!
Everything is mine,
And we, and we come from here -
= And cornflowers, and I, and poplars.

I'll get off at the far station,
= From necessity!
= I'll look at my childhood from a high branch.
Let me go again,
Let me, you land of my birth,
= be initiated into this silence!

На дальней станции сойду,- = I'll get off at the far station;
= The grass waist-high!
= I'll go into the grass, like into the sea - barefoot!
And without my turning
Fast, fast train
= It will blend somewhere into the noise of the city.
