Russian Court Costumes from Peter I - Nicholas II
« on: September 08, 2007, 07:10:10 AM »
You can read more information about this book here: http://www.angelfire.com/pa/ImperialRussian/grb/rom38.html

Does anyone have more information on this book or can recommend it? Is it a pictorial collection of only Russian court costumes or also of their "regular" clothes (i.e. like some exhibition catalogs that show, for example, Worth gowns made for the Empress or summer dresses of the Grand Duchesses)?

No I don't. I do have a spectacularly large book entitled "Nicholas and Alexandra" which has photos of court costumes and dresses plus imperial orders and paintings and so on. There is a superb exhibition in the Kremlin in Moscow of uniforms and imperial clothing from the time of Ivan the Terrible to Nicholas II. Also in the State Diamond Fund are the imperial crown jewels. In the Armoury there are court carriages, silver and goldware, Faberge eggs and so on. Moscow is quite worth the trip. Of course there are collections of imperial clothing also in St.Petersburg.

Sarai,

IMHO the book you are seeking can occassionally be found on e-bay for less than half the price requested on the link you have provided.

The Hermitage does have a bookstore.
