Alexei's Letters

I'm looking for some of Alexei's letters for a Alexei Video I'm working on (I'm using a song called "Letters from War"). Dose anybody have any from when he was with his father at the war camp? (or whatever it was, can't remember!)...but are there any to his mother or sisters?

Aleksey wrote to Alexandra on May 31st 1916:

"Yesterday I missed you a lot. Together with Papa we we sniffed the pillows and curtain, you know why."

Bumping this old thread to see if anyone knows why someone would sniff their pillows and curtains.  :X

My best guess is they were scented with Alexandra's perfume. In Tobolsk, Anna Vyrubova sent the IF a little flask of her perfume for Christmas, so perhaps this was something similar to that gesture.

Exactly so. In some of the letters (though I am not going to look them up!) she tells Nicholas explicitly that she had sprayed her scent on the pillows etc in her compartment for him for him to sniff after she'd left. Interesting fetish...:-D
