How do you give yourself an icon?

OH! LMAO! I'm such a dumb-ass. I should have told you this earlier.
You need to put your picture files in either jpg, jpeg, gif,png file format. You have your picture as a Bitmap or .bmp

If you don't know how to do the file changes, you can email the pictures to me (lmabee @ gmail.com) and I'll do them. You can also just change the filename if you want to .jpg or something

I would normally save avatar pics as .jpgs but this time, b/c it is a black-&-white photo, it won't let me save it like that. Nevermind! Maybe will be able to find one that can be saved as a .jpg!

Oh help please!! I've tried to download an avatar from photobucket and I thought I did everything right but all mine shows is that stupid little square with the red cross in it (I don't even know what that's called!) A related question: When someone here puts up a photo like that, I know to right-click and pull up the instructions to "Show Picture" but it never works for me!! What on earth am I doing wrong??? And I did add gif to it!!(My avatar I mean!)

There is a particular problem with this url. Have you uploaded a picture from your computer to Photobucket? In your url, it doesn't seem to have a username. For example in a link from my photobuket account:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v616/Romanov/Untitled-1.jpg

If you're having trouble uploading a picture, or signing up to Photobucket, feel free to PM me and I can walk you through it.

If you have already uploaded a image to photobucket, then just follow these guidelines:

First - Get a picture that you want to be your Icon
Second - Host it on Imageshack or Photobucket
Third - Click on "Profile" at the top of this page
Fourth - Scroll down your 'profile' page till you get to:


Where the arrow is, place the URL for your image. You can find this for example on photobucket:


Take the URL (The line I highlighted in the above example) and place it in:

(the place that's highlighted)

Make sure you remember to check the box that says "I have my own pic"

And click Change profile...

Volia! You're done!

Thanks, Laura, you're both a genius AND an angel but I am very persistent and when I have a problem I get fixated on it and can't stop messing with it--like a dog with a bone!! I did PM you but I kept on trying to figure it out and LOOK!!!! I DID figure it out--finally--all by myself!! I am so proud!! Check out my new picture of Anastasia--in color, no less!!! Now my   have turned to   . You were right, I somehow got the URL totally wrong, but once I finally got the correct one--voila! One perfect family snapshot of the Grand Duchess Anastasia!!

If you need to get a photobucket account you can use the signup on their page. However, if you don't want to have to deal with the hassel of signing up you can go to imageshack.

I personally would recommend going through Photobucket, as of late, the seem more reliable.
