Oh a beautiful portrait of Victoire!!

It shows her incredible resemblance to the Comte d'Eu.

Why was Elisabeth always so harsh to her little sister? After the Ludwig story, she blamed Sophie many years later for Ludwigs frame of mind. And the Glaser story made Elisabeth again furios. After all her criticism against the court and public, she was in reality small-minded. Or does anyone know why she was so to Sophie??

Well...Sisi was not known to be partial. But the Dr. Glaser incident was really crossing the line. It put Sophie in par with Louise of Belgium, whom all thought was silly.

I haven't heard nothing like this :-0 About the case of Ludwig I think that Sissi had not right to blame Sophie about nothing, finally she wasn't responsable of his madness. about the second situation perhaps was a bit easy to understand because it was a real scandal for the victorian age, but in any case she wouldn't be as hard as she was with her sister

Sisi and her husband FJ did gave them (Sophie and her husband) a stern lecture when they visited Schornburnn after the storm blew over...

I know, but you wrote "Schornburnn" which might confuse other members of this forum. Besides it is possible to write "oe" instead of "ö".

Sophie's hair is amazing!

Would anyone know if there is a biography of Sophie available in English?

An interesting link regarding the Fire:

Thx a lot for the pic of the wonderful bust! Would love to have one of her...

Here is one of Sophies handkerchiefs, from an exhibition at Artstetten. It was awesome to see it:

Well, if it belongs to the Hohenberg family, it isn't in possession of Sophie's descendants anymore.

I think the handkerchiefs and the lininen that used to belong to Sophie Charlotte belong to her decendents now living in Australia. I was invited to view them the next time I go there. This one maybe from a different collection.

Very beautiful pictures of Sophie! Its a pitty, it looks like that there arent much pictures of her in bustle dresses. I love that style of fashion and I think she looks lovely in that gowns...

Does anybody have more information about their home at Vincennes? I read that they lived at the Avenue Reine Blanche, but thats all I could find :/
I also know that they lived at the Hotel Campbell in the Rue de Friedland at Paris and in Tyrol in the Mentlberg Castle in the 1890s.

This of Sophie in bustle gown is simply great!!  :-* I think that this style of clothing made her to look much better than the crinoline gowns! Agree that there aren't much of her in this style, the hairdo is unusual too. Thanks so much!! Some help about the aproximate date of it.

It said sthg as "Sophie Charlotte Auguste, sister of Sissi"
Although I must make a confession: there were also portraits of other royals (like archduchess Gisela or Crown Princess Stephanie) but they didn't look totally like the real ones. That's why I didn't post more pics about them on their threads. I liked a bit this of sophie but I recognize that she doesn't look 100% like her.  :(

I ve seen a  portrait of another royal lady wearing a tiara like that and having a round face like that. So, i d say its mislabeled. You cant always trust in the labels.

EDIT

Got it...Maria Anna of Anhalt Dessau

I know that it doesn't look at the first glance like Sophie, but there was one portrait labeled as Sophie very similar to this, but only bust length which I can't find now :(

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/437904763747260809/

The lady was painted by Winterhalter so,could it be her?

The bust length portrait which found it's way to some auction was a bit more "softly looking."

I looked through all the gallery, I think that you are referring to this portrait... right? >>Credits on the image<<

(http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt94/KaiserinCharlotte/DarlingCharlotte/sophno_zpsvjrp3ypd.jpg) (http://s601.photobucket.com/user/KaiserinCharlotte/media/DarlingCharlotte/sophno_zpsvjrp3ypd.jpg.html)

What I see is that it is actually the same portrait (same pose, same hair, same dress and same jewels) but the face changes a lot, the face of the lady in the bust length portrait not only looks softer but IMO the lady looks slightly younger on this than in the larger version. I tried to look for the identity of the lady portrayed but only found it labeled (as well as in pinterest) as a "Portrait of a lady in a white ball gown".
Honestly, I am not much convinced that this is actually a portrait of Sophie, but I could be wrong. I mean, even in the bust lenght portrait, the lady portrayed doesn't look so much like Sophie. In the second version, the woman is totally different to Sophie. Winterhalter did a good job with the portraits of her sisters, Sissi and Marie Sophie, they really had a resemblance, so this makes me to doubt that this is actually Sophie! As I previously said, the woman in the second portrait doesn't bear any resemblance to Sophie and I even dare to say that looks a bit older.

Any other opinion?

Yes,that is the portrait...It was sold several times in the various auctions always as Sophie Charlotte in Bayern.

I found this other portrait just by coincidence and thought that it might be modified version of the same portrait.

The woman doesn't look very much like older Sophie, but when a bit younger plus "painters vision" nobody knows.

IMHO the portrayed lady looks more like a young Alexandra of Wales than Sophie Charlotte.
