A friend and I went to the Humane Society today and picked her out. I named her Tatiana, after my favourite of the Grand Duchesses. She's one and half years old and is busy exploring the apartment. I have shown her where her food and water dishes are, plus her litter box.
-
Sweet! What type of cat is she? :)
-
Photo Tim? My fiancé is on a big dog & cat trip lately and we live right by the SPCA.
-
She's a torbi, a member of the calico family. I don't have any photos of her yet, but I will take some in the future.
-
Congratulations Tim!
-
Thanks, Anne.
I wonder how her namesake would think of this.
-
I'm sure TN would be touched and I'm sure the cat is aware of the honor too . =)
Not as we would be, but it has to be aware of the feelings you have for the name you gave it ...imo

Yeah, that is true. She really is adorable.
-
But is she "exotic" looking like GD Tatiana? :-)
If we get a female cat I may too name it after one of the GDs but wait to give it a name for a few weeks just as people used to wait a while before naming their babies. In the interim if the cat was sweet and a cuddler I think "Maria" would be her name. If wise and cunning perhaps "Olga". It playful but mischievous a lock for "Anastasia", lol
-
funny, edubs31 ! It's also funny but our cats have two names in the Russian fashion .... as in " Lily Lilyliaevna" That is: Lily , daughter of Lily lol
-

I'll try to get some pictures up soon.

Those are cute names.

Our youngest is Cleocatra, the oldest is Abbacat.

lol cute...as a Genesis fan I guess I should consider "Abacat" for a potential name. I always liked the idea of "Catalyst" too.
There is a also couple I know who named their cat "Eartha Kitty" :-)
-
Congrats on the new cat Tim! I work at the humane society, so I'm always very happy when an animal goes home with their new family. I myself just adopted two puppies from my location this morning. I haven't picked out names yet, but my sister and I are thinking of naming them Kanoa and Mano (Kanoa means "Free One" in Hawaiian and Mano means "Shark" ).

Interesting names. It's always nice to give an animal that needs a loving home exactly that.
Our youngest is Cleocatra
Interesting take on the name "Cleopatra." Of course, cats were worshipped in Ancient Egypt. When the Pharaoh died, their favourite cat was often buried with them, to accompany them in the afterlife.
-
Sure enough Tim, whether we want to or not, little Cleo demands worshipping now, while she is still alive. She gets it, of course.
And good work Strange Phenom. We are involved with the SF SPCA here. Specifically the feral cats programme. I also contribute to the Battersea Cat house in London. Give me a cat cause, I'll write the cheque !
-
I support my local Humane Society too. As I said, that is where I got Tatiana from.
-
My family and I have been supporting local shelters along with the Humane Society for as long as I can remember. With the exception of my love birds (they were gifts from a family friend for my 17th birthday), all of my animals came from shelters or the HS. Shelter animals are some of the best dogs, cats etc... that you will ever meet, and I have to resist taking ALL of the animals home with me every time I leave for the day.
-

LOL! Yeah, you just want to take them all home.
-
Tim, I'm going to need little TN's photo if I'm to finish this lol

-
Annie, this is hilarious! Don't forget the tail! :D
-
Annie that is brilliant! ;D
-
Thanks guys =) ...I couldn't resist! lol
-
Anne, did you make that for my cat? I recognize the picture you used, one of Tatiana on the Standart.
If I can ever get my little Tatiana to stay still long enough, I'll get some pictures.
-
Anne, did you make that for my cat?
of course! lol If I can ever get my little Tatiana to stay still long enough, I'll get some pictures.
when you do, I'll put in her clours =)

Thanks, Anne, on behalf of both of us.

sorry for the delay
Tim's cat, Tatiana ....Tatiana as Tim's Cat

-
Haha that's terrific Anne, well done!
Tim) Would you mind buying three more female cats and maybe a boy kitty so we can get a full portrait...? :-)
-
Anne, I think your picture captures the essence of both Tatiana's. Thanks for making it, I really appreciate it.
As for me getting more cats, not right now, this little one is a handful all by herself :)
-
Thanks to you both! . It came into my mind and so had to be done! And it's okay Tim! No need to add to the family I have been thinking of an Olga cat in the 17th century grab already ! lol!
-
The drawing is too cute and the real cat looks like she lives up to the elegance of her namesake!
Can't wait to see the Rococo feline Olga!
-
We have 7 cats at the moment- 2 house cats, 3 garden cats and 2 at the shop. They are all feral rescues, although they are hardly feral now. They are spoiled rotten, especially the 2 house cats, Abba and Cleo. They came to us as tiny kittens and do not know the outside world. I call Abba my Millennium baby as came to us then and could fit in the palm of my hand.
Also, I had just returned from London, having seen an ABBA tribute show there. ALL are neutered, we work closely with the SPCA in that programme.
-
Between the farm my family owns and the condo my sister and I share, I have 2 Huskies (Kanoa and Mano), 1 Westie (Jesse), 1 Cocker Spaniel and Miniature American Eskimo mix (Logan) and 2 Golden Retrievers (Cody and Jack), 3 American Quarter Horses (Arrow, Slingshot and Dune), 3 Domestic Short Hairs (Aussie, Fender and Max), 2 Miniature American Lops (Chip and Chaos), 2 Pygmy Goats (Suede and Apache) and 2 Peach Faced Love Birds (Mango and Berry).
-
Wow, that IS a lot of pets!
-
Wow, that IS a lot of pets!
I know and there's soon to be a few more hopefully! I just got back from the vet and my baby girl, Berry (one of my lovebirds) is pregnant!
-
Congrats to her :)
-
Lots of pets indeed!
Congrats to your cat :)
-
Lots of pets indeed!
Congrats to your cat :)
Thanks Tim and Jen! Mango (the dad) is chirping excitedly as we speak and shredding the paper I put in their cage to make a nest. The eggs should arrive within ten days and then its incubation time! Most of Berry's last clutch didn't make it (she laid six, three were infertile, one didn't hatch and one passed away two days later. Her surviving chick, a male, is now with my younger brother), so we're hoping that this time they'll pull through and Berry won't have any problems.
-
In my apartment, the words "No Tatiana!" are heard a lot. She really is a handful, but I love this little cat :)
-
I know exactly how you feel Tim! I have two 5 month old "kids" to house train- my husky puppies- who are constantly getting into things and causing complete and utter chaos much to Jesse, my 13 year old dog's, dismay. But they are so cute and I love them to bits, so its so hard to stay mad at them.
-
Whoops...just realised I said Cat, silly me! ;)
But you are welcome, keep your fingers crossed there are no problems!
-
Yeah, Mango is on alert right now too. He's biting at one of the bars in their cage, which he only does when he's anxious. I'm sure everything will be okay this time though, because this is Berry's second pregnancy and she's really calm this time. The vet thinks it was the stress of being a first time mom that caused the issues before.
-
Let us know how it turns out.
Tatiana has this habit of running out of the apartment when the door is opened. I have to chase her down the hall to get her back.
-
I'll make sure to update as soon as there's any developments.
-
Tatiana got herself shut up in the bathroom closet this morning. I did it by accident because I didn't see her go in. I got worried when I couldn't find her, could she have somehow gotten out of the apartment, but eventually her meowing led me to where she was. Silly cat.
-
and... we've got eggs! Berry's just laid her 1st egg, and is presently chirping away in her nest box which is sitting beside my bed. I won't know which ones are infertile until she's done, which should be some time tonight or tomorrow morning, and I can check in on them.
-
Congrats :)
-
Berry says thanks Tim! Anyways, it looks like she's finished laying and we are now at a total of 7 eggs. I have done the fertility tests on them and there appears to only be one infertile egg this go around, so great news for mom and me. I just checked in on her and she's currently plucking feathers to begin the incubation/nesting process.
-
Meanwhile, my little cat is quite the mischief maker, she has a habit of going places and doing things she is not suppose to do. I'm beginning to wonder if I named her after the wrong GD :)
-
Oh, that's adorable s_p! Are you guys going to name them?
I know the feeling Tim, I have three cats myself, and all sorts of handfuls. Sissy likes to paw at cups full of any liquid, and when she does, she usually knocks them off the counter/table/stand! Then she just walks away like nothing happened. Donut (Sissy's son, and yes, his name really is Donut!) likes to dig up the potatoes and the mounds in our garden whenever he can, and it's quite a site to see him run back and forth as he's being chased off! And then there's Buddy, the sweetheart. This cat will do anything for some love. Or food. Once he was locked outside all night, and he took refuge in the chicken house (we also have chickens :3) and sat in the boxes where the chickens lay eggs! He actually slept there too.... xD
Sissy likes to think she's a chicken too. Once, about 6 baby chicks were following her around, and she just led them around the yard! She also likes to walk in group with them; it's adorable xD
In all, we have too many animals to name. 3 cats, at least 40 chickens, numerous birds, including magpies and chickenhawks and eagles, there are squirrels in our attic, about 3 moose that like to visit us, summer or winter, at least one bear, and ducks that like to fly in and use the stream in our backyard and eat the chicken feed.
-
Do you live on a farm, Natalie? Just curious.
-
:o So many pets Natalie!
I used to have guinea pigs and rabbits myself. When I was little, I had small fish!
-
We have babies folks! Over the last three days, all 6 of the fertile eggs hatched and we're working on names.
-
Congrats!!! Wonderful :)
-
Berry and Mango say thanks Jen! We have 4 males and 2 females. We've chosen the names for the males, but are stuck on the females. They won't be out of the nest box for another 4 days though, so we still have time to figure that out.
-
Take a page from me and name them after the GD's :)
-
Thanks for the suggestion Tim! We've already picked out names, but I'll take that into consideration for the next new family member we get.
The 4 boys are Oceano (he's a whitefaced blue, which is genetic mutation), Jet (he's a rosy peach faced, like Berry), Camo (he's also a whitefaced blue) and Citrus (he's a orange tinted peach faced like Mango). The 2 girls are Kai (she's like Oceano and Camo) and Tang (she's the same as Mango and Citrus).
-
Those are nice names.
-
Lovely names! I like them :)
-
Tatiana has been sleeping with me, she really is a little sweetheart.
-
Aw, how sweet!
-
That is so adorable Tim!
Jesse and Aussie, my dog and cat, always sleep on the couch together. I walked into the living room this morning, and as usual, Aussie was sleeping ON TOP of Jesse. Its so funny to see a big black lump on top of a completely (although dirty at the moment) white dog.
Here are some pics of Jesse and Aussie if anyone is interested...
Aussie (http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k625/faded_hauntings/forum%20crap/IMGP0326.jpg)

Oh and Charlie is the one with the red collar and Jesse is the one with the blue.
-
Aw, they're so cute.
-
Adoroble! I love the second photo best, so sweet.
-
Pets are wonderful companions :)
-
She's adorable Tim! Thanks for including my drawing! =)
-
You're welcome, Anne. I loved it and I'm honoured that you made it for both Tatiana's.
-
Cute Tim...glad to see Anne's picture included as well.
-
I noticed Anne's drawing in there ;)
Anyway, Tim, Tatiana looks very sweet and playful! Thanks for making that!
-
and she looks happy, that's a tribute to you Tim =)
-
Yeah, she really is a happy little cat. I'm glad everyone has enjoyed the video, I really enjoyed making it (even if it was a challenge to get Tatiana to stay still long enough to take the pictures).
-
She got me up at six in the morning today. Guess she wanted her breakfast early.
-
Tatiana looks like a really sweet kitty. In 2008 my Alex passed away after almost 21 years. She was the loudest kitten in the Humane Society facility in Easton. My husband and I named her Alexandra after the empress. Mostly she was called Alex. She was like Tatiana, a calico torti with large patches of solid black and red fur.
When Dick, my husband was ill, she would keep watch under his desk until he made a phone call from the hospital and talked to her. Then she would return to her normal activities.
I'll always miss her.
All the best
Kitt

wonderful post, thank you

I see I'm not the only one to name a pet after one of the IF. Thanks for sharing about your Alex, she sounds like she was a sweet cat.
-
Sorry for being gone for a long while! I would have completely missed this pleasant thread. Congrats on the new furry pal! I think that name is perfect, especially for a cat!

Yeah, she is. I just adore her.

Little Tatiana is adorable Tim!
On my end... I have another new family member! My mom's quarter horse, Cocoa, gave birth to a colt two days ago and the little guy is my newest "kid". I've taken Tim's suggestion and named him Alex (after both Alexei and Alexandra).

Thanks, from both of us.

You get your request Tim and so much more! I'm sorry the pictures of the little guy aren't better. He's still spooked by cameras so I had to take them from a bit of a distance and the pictures of him and his aunt were taken at a local riding club, where we were getting him trained.
so with out further ado... here's some more pics of my "kids":

They are all adorable! You are very fortunate to have horses in your life, as I'm sure you know =)
One of Alexi's nicknames was "Tiny". Your little guy fits that name well ...so far! lol!
-
Aw, your kids are so sweet looking, Chrysteene. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

This is my new baby, Charlotte. She's ten weeks old. Sadly, I recently lost my Siamese cat Ling-Ling; I'd had her for sixteen years, and I'm still recovering from her passing, but little Charlotte has helped me more than words can say. She isn't named after a royal, though--Charlotte Bronte is her namesake :)
-
That's amazing. We had an all black female cat named Charlotte for many years! Her name sake however was " Charlotte's Web" . Because when we got her, she was so small she looked like a spider! lol! Your Charlotte is so cute! However I'm sorry about Ling-Ling

That really is amazing! My sister thinks I should start a blog about my kitten and call it "Charlotte's Web!" Thank you for your sympathy about Ling-Ling; if you want to see a picture of her, it's in one of the Discussion Forum threads.
-
I'm so sorry about Ling-Ling, Amanda. I saw your picture of her, she was a lovely cat.
However, I'm glad you now have little Charlotte. She looks like a sweetie.
-
Thank you so very much, Tim. I appreciate the kind words.
-
I'm sorry to hear about Ling-Ling too. Like Tim said, she looked like an absolutely sweet cat.
-
I know what it's like to lose a beloved pet. It's losing a family member.
-
Thank you to you too, strange_phenom. She was quite possibly the sweetest cat I've ever known--I'd had her since I was twelve years old, and losing her has been nothing short of devastating for me. Tim is right: it's losing a family member.
-
So true. I have a few "kids" that are getting up there in age and I know I will be completely devastated when they leave me.
-
Tatiana is very young, so I hope to have her for a very long time (knocking on wood).
-
omg? PET LOSS? Awful. Unless one has walked though that fire, they can't understand.
-
Sorry to hear about Ling-Ling :( Charlotte is adoroble though!
-
Yeah, she is a pretty little cat.
-
Thank you all very much for being so kind--I miss my Ling-Ling terribly, but little Charlotte is wonderful, and I've fallen in love with her already :)
-
but little Charlotte is wonderful, and I've fallen in love with her already
Yeah, she looks like a real sweetie, Amanda.

She is such a sweetie, Tim--I'll have to post a new picture of her (if she ever sits still long enough for me to take one!).

Ever so sweet!

Aw, what a sweet picture of Charlotte.
-
Thanks, guys. She IS pretty cute :)

adorable!

That's nice Tim...but no audio? Or am I missing something...
-
No, it's just pictures, like Tatiana's video.
I'm glad you liked it.
-
Your cats are beautiful, Tim. :)
-
Thanks, Amanda.
-
Those are some cute cats Tim!
I managed to get a few more pictures of my cat if anyone is interested:

-
So sweet!
-
Cats are just wonderful, aren't they.
-
Yes, they are. Well except for when they decide to wake you up by attacking your feet while you sleep.
-
Tatiana always gets me up at some God awful hour in the morning for feeding time.
-
A might be getting a new digital camera soon. When that happens, I'm gonna make a live action video of Tatiana.
-
As promised, this one is live:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xvcvq9_tatiana-live_animals
-
So, has anyone watched the live video yet? Just curious.
-
So, has anyone watched the live video yet? Just curious.
Yeah a while back. Cute cat Tim. How's your kitty doing these day. Taught her any tricks? :-)
-
She's doing great. She really makes me smile.
-
I did, Tim! Tatiana is such a cutie pie.
On a pretty sad note for me, I lost two of my "kids" over the weekend. Jesse, my Westie, passed away on Saturday morning, three days before his 14th birthday and my American Eskimo mix, Logan passed away on Sunday night at the ripe old age of 17. I adopted my boys when I was 14 from a small shelter in Halifax and fell in love with them instantly. I will miss my boys tremendously, but as always I have a lot of room in my heart for another few sets of paws, and may find myself with another kid sometime soon.
-
I'm so sorry you lost your pets. It's never easy, believe me.
-
I'm getting ready to move, and Tatiana has this habit of chewing on the boxes! LOL!
-
As long as she doesn't do her business all over them, right? lol
Moving her to a new palace where she belongs? :-)
-
I'm getting ready to move, and Tatiana has this habit of chewing on the boxes! LOL!
I know the feeling Tim! My dog, Jack, who was 10 months at the time, would do the exact same thing when I moved in 2011. I would go to bed, work or school with the boxes intact and come home or wake up to completely destroyed ones or pieces of cardboard scattered all over the place. It finally got to the point where we had to buy plastic containers and leave our dogs with my mom (who was three hours from where we lived before and an hour from where we are now) while we finished packing and moved.
P.S. congrats on becoming a moderator,Tim!

Tatiana has to go to the vet on Friday, but it's just her routine annual check-up. She'll get her injections.
Yep, on March 10, it will be one year since I adopted her.
-
Yes, they are. Well except for when they decide to wake you up by attacking your feet while you sleep.
This is why I am a dog person even though mine attempts to grabs anything in his way, including my shoes. Congratulations on your early anniversary, Tim. Your cat is very adorable by the way! :)

Neeosine, does this mean your cat actually doesn't grab your shoes? Did you just want us to think it did? lol

Awwwwwwwwww <3
As someone who is a HUGE cat fan, I really enjoyed this cute video. She's adorable.
-
Thanks, Laura. You have any cats yourself?
-
Yes sir.... 6!
-
Wow, that is a lot of cats!
-
Yeah..... I didn't initially think of obtaining so many (I had eight at one point).
I lived in the country for a few years and people would abandon their pets quite often. It was a natural growth in numbers.
I can't stress the importance of spaying and neutering one's pet!
-
Yeah, I agree. There would be fewer strays around if everyone did that.
Thank God for the Humane Society. Thanks to them, cats like Tatiana can find loving homes.
-

It's been a year already? Tatiana is a very lucky girl to have found a good home with you; as Laura said, there are so many kitties in need out there.
My little Charlotte is almost ten months old now, and she's very playful--I'm almost immune to cat scratches at this point, but it's all worth it when she curls up next to me at night. I'll post a photo of her as soon as I take some new ones ;)
-
Yeah, I agree. There would be fewer strays around if everyone did that.

I know. I can't begin to tell you the pain and abuse I have seen working at my location.
The sad reality though, is people don't realize that taking care of an animal (or in my case, multiple) is like taking care of a child. They adopt or purchase an animal, get in way over their head/s and decide that they can't do it anymore. You wouldn't dump your child on the street, so don't do the same to an animal. If you must give an animal up, take them to your local independent shelter or Humane Society, don't just leave them out there on their own.
-
My little Charlotte is almost ten months old now, and she's very playful--I'm almost immune to cat scratches at this point, but it's all worth it when she curls up next to me at night. I'll post a photo of her as soon as I take some new ones
I look forward to seeing them, Amanda.
Sadly, a lot of people do that. Trilly, the cat I had before Tatiana, was such a cat, she was a stray on the streets. She found her way to my back porch, and found a home with me for the next 12 years.

Jack and Cody, my not quite two year old Golden Retrievers were rescued from the streets as well. In April of 2011, at approx. 2 months old, after being discovered with their two sisters and brother by a dumpster, they were brought into the Humane Society location I work at. I took the boys home with me a week later and they have been here with me ever since.

I'm glad they found a nice home with you.

Tatiana got a clean bill of health from the vet.
Glad to hear it :)
-
Thanks, Amanda.
-
Good to hear Tatiana's healthy, Tim. We're having our vet come to the farm to check on Alex and Cocoa (Alex will be year old in July, Cocoa is seventeen). Cocoa is pretty sick right now and Alex is getting his check up.
-
I hope Cocoa will be okay. Keep us posted.
-
I hope Cocoa will be okay. Keep us posted.
Thanks, Tim. It looks like she's going to be okay. The vet said she has a chest infection and should be back on her feet once she's had a course of antibiotics.
-
I'm glad she's going to be okay.
-
Well my little angel is doing great. She's curled up asleep by the computer as I type this.
-
I'm so glad Cocoa is going to be okay, CelticTomboy!
Tim, does your cat ever sit on the keyboard when you're trying to type? Mine does it all the time, and I have yet to decide if it's cute or annoying ::)
-

Funny you should mention that, Amanda. Tatiana doesn't sit on the keyboard when I'm working, but I've caught her sleeping on it a few times. I now close my computer (it's a lap top) when I'm not using it to prevent this.

Had a bit of a scare today..
Tatiana got out of the apartment again, as she has done many times before. A round of Chase The Cat followed as I tried to steer her back towards my apartment. This time, however, the elevator opened as someone got off, and Tatiana ran into the open elevator. Thankfully, I was able to grab her before the doors closed and whisked her away to another floor!

Thank goodness you got her in time, Tim. On my end, my baby, Kanoa, who is now a full grown husky, managed to get himself and Aussie (my cat) caught in the doggy door, because they tried to get through at the same time. I swear, I don't know what to do with those two, anymore!
-
Well, I'm glad your pets are okay too.
-
It seems everyone who meets Tatiana wants to take her home with them. She's just that kind of cat. LOL!
-
I wasn't going to mention this but seeing this thread as having been updated I might as well. I got a new cat also. Name is "Teddy". He's about ten months old and was under foster care. Really beautiful and healthy minus a small injury noticeable to his tail from a fight with another cat. I'm actually allergic to cats but my wife wanted one badly and convinced me to go a long with it. Glad I did. He's frisky but adorable, and my allergy symptoms have ranged from mild to non-existent around him...guess it was meant to be :-)
I'll share a photo if anyone is interested in seeing him...

Nice pic Charlotte. I grew up with a black cat and have a soft spot for them in particular.
Here's Teddy. Hard to get him to stay still long enough for a good photo...

Thanks Tim & Dru...his eyes do match his coat! He really is a handsome devil. Still a little guy, only 10 months old.

I have, Amanda, but I just haven't gotten around to uploading them yet.

He sure is. What breed is he?

I'm told he's a domestic short hair.

Who is this "edubs31" dude taking my picture? Doesn't he know it's dinner time?
-
lol, he's around me constantly. Every time I walk from one room to the next he follows. Always wants to play or cuddle up. More like a dog than a cat in many ways. And, yes, we're keeping him well fed.
-
edubs31 , he's a heart stealer that one ! Congrats!

Dru, Charlotte is so adorable!

That is a lovely picture of your Charlotte, Amanda.

Thanks, guys. I think she's pretty darn cute :)
-
Yeah, she is. I'm glad you found a cat that loves you, Amanda.
Just as Tatiana loves me.

Thanks, Tim. It sounds like we are both very lucky to have such wonderful feline friends.

Yeah, Amanda, we sure are.

My wife and I are foregoing the Christmas Tree this year specifically because of Teddy cat. I just don't see any way those ornaments will survive the holiday season with our mischievous little climber being the way he is, lol.

Just can't keep them away from the tree! LOL!

Ah, the old pets gone wild with the Christmas tree issue. Cats swatting at shiny low-hanging ornaments is so inevitable. Similar to the problem with big dogs' uncontrollable tail-wagging doing a job on them, as was the case annually with our dog Laddie.
-
I know exactly what you guys mean--Charlotte was only six months old last Christmas, and the lower half of our tree was bare because she stole all the ornaments! It wasn't really funny, but secretly, I think everything that cat does is precious. Still, I'm hoping she behaves a little better this year :)
-
I wouldn't count on it, Amanda. Cats seem to love going after Christmas trees and their ornaments.
-
Yeah, you're probably right, Tim. And I have three other cats besides!
-
And I have three other cats besides!
Is it just you and the cats, Amanda? It must be a lot of work to keep up with three of them.
Tatiana is quite a handful, and there's just one of her.
-
Nope, I've got three other people in the house, plus two dogs :)
-
Crowded house. Four people, four cats, two dogs!
-
Three horses and four chickens, too ;) I lived in Boston for a stint, but I grew up in the Berkshires, which is where I live now--it's beautiful here, and I love the peace and quiet.
-
I live in a one bedroom apartment, so one cat is good enough for me.

Not a cat, but very cute anyway. This is Joe, and as you can see, my sister has decorated his stall for Christmas :)
-
What a lovely horse, Amanda.
-
Thanks, Tim. He's a really sweet horse, too!
-
Have you ridden him yet, Amanda?
-
I have ridden him before, but I'm not a very good rider. My sister has ridden him in shows and won championships, though.
-
Congrats to your sister, Amanda.
As for me, I'm still trying to keep Tatiana away from the Christmas tree. It seems every time I turn around, she's there, chewing on it. She has her own chew toys, why is she always after the tree!
-
Today, Tatiana finally did it. She knocked over my Christmas tree. No damage though.
-
Tatiana, my current cat, is three years old as of today. According to her adoption records, she was born on December 21, 2010.

We had a terrible scare with my sister's very dearly loved cat Steve (funny name for a cat, I know). He was rushed to the animal emergency room Saturday night, and they basically told us he would have to be put to sleep--he had a blocked urinary tract, and they suspected he had a kidney stone, which would have meant thousands of dollars worth of risky surgery, or he could have had crystals in his urine, which is a re-occuring condition that can be fatal; either way, it wasn't looking good. However, his urinalysis came back perfectly normal, and it now looks like he has a rare stress condition that caused a muscle spasm and prevented him from urinating. He has to eat prescription cat food for the rest of his life, and he may have to take an anti-anxiety medication, but he's going to be okay. It is almost a miracle. At any rate, he is home safe and sound, and here he is resting comfortable in the drawer of his mama's bed:

Scary stuff, glad he's OK. A friend of my wife's cat had to be put down not long ago for a urinary condition like the one you mentioned. Sad.
Here's one of Teddy from a couple of months ago. He's just under a year and four months at this point...

Thanks, edubs; I'm glad he's okay too.
Teddy is absolutely beautiful!
-
I'm glad for you sister, Amanda, that she didn't lose her beloved Steve (which is a nice name for a cat). I'm glad he made it.
Edubs, Teddy looks so sweet in the picture you provided.

Thanks to you both! Yes he's an adorable little guy and a total ham for the camera!

Thanks, Tim. Lindsay (my sister) thinks Steve is a pretty great cat, which he is, and she loves his name, too!
-
He's a nice looking cat, Amanda.
-
I will tell my sister you said so; she loves that cat very much, and I know your compliment will make her day :)
-
Okay, Amanda.
Cats are great.
-
Told a friend about Tatiana. He commented on how my cat has a Russian name.
Well, I replied, since she's named after a Russian Grand Duchess, what else would it be. LOL!

She's doing great. I bought her some new toys yesterday. They're cat balls. All I had to do was show them to her, and she began batting them around like crazy.

Much cuter than the live snake my Charlotte was playing with yesterday, lol

LOL!
Of course, since Tatiana is a full time indoor cat (we live in an apartment), I don't think I have to worry about that happening here.

My cats stay indoors too, but I live in a rural area, and every now and then, snakes get in the cellar. Luckily, Charlotte is an excellent hunter!

Yeah, cats like to show off their kills to their humans

Surprised you even attempt a Christmas tree with a cat. There's no way those ornaments would still be hanging after a day at work with the two we own, lol.

Tatiana is sleeping with me all the time now. Usually she comes in during the night when I'm asleep and joins me. I'll wake up and they she'll be, happily curled up beside me.

Yeah, she's very hard to photograph. It's a shame because she's a very pretty kitty, and I only have a few decent pictures of her, but my sister got a few good pics last week :)
-
Sounds like Charlotte is a camera shy kitty.
Tatiana, on the other hand, can stay still long enough for me to get good photos of her.

Tatiana got out of the apartment again last night. As I was steering her back towards my apartment, she suddenly veered off, like she was chasing something. Turns out she was, a mouse! The poor mouse did not survive. However, it wasn't Tatiana that killed it, but me. I accidentally stepped on the poor thing.
Needless to say, Minto, the company that manages this apartment building, is going to get a call from me.
-
My cats are quite excellent hunters and I actually get excited when there is a mouse as pray for them.

Lol, shades of the murinely named Prince Myshkin! I can imagine you in your former life as a Russian lord of the manor with a pack of hunting dogs swarming around your booted feet, announcing in French you are happy your hounds will get some good sport now that a bear has appeared and terrified serf childen picking berries in the woods!
-
My cats are quite excellent hunters and I actually get excited when there is a mouse as pray for them.
My Charlotte is also an excellent hunter, but I can't say I get excited when she wakes me up at 2:00 am asking me to praise her for her kill ;)
-
They usually say that if a cat is well fed, it won't kill. However, sometimes the urge to hunt is strong in them, they've been doing this since the days when Smilodon Fatalis roamed the Earth.
Anyone watch my new video yet?
-
Anyone watch my new video yet?
Yes, I did. Tatiana looks like a very content cat.
-
I thought it was worth mentioning that my cat Teddy has decided to take out his boredom and/or aggression on a paperback copy of Helen Azar's "Maria & Anastasia diaries". The little guy jumped to the top of out nearly six foot high dresser, where the book was placed, and went to town on it. Not sure what he has against Helen or the Grand Duchess's but I'm about ready to throw his Commie a#$ out onto the street (just kidding)! :-)
-
I watched the video, Tim--Tatiana is a beautiful cat!
And edubs31, I'm laughing at your Teddy destroying a Romanov book, because Charlotte chewed up my copy of Nicholas and Alexandra. What is it with these cats?

And edubs, Teddy is gorgeous--I love his eyes!

Love the Charlotte shoes, Amanda. They do look like her.

Thanks. He's a handsome little guy. He's also a frisky biscuit. I'll have to post a picture or two if his calico sister Sophia.
-
I would love to see pictures of Sophia.
-
Now that summer has arrived, Tatiana has something else to chase, insects.
I've seen her suddenly look up at something and then zoom off chasing it. Chances are that she's spotted a fly (cats have much more acute senses than humans have) and decided to play with it.
-
I'm sorry to update the topic this way, but I have some bad news about my family. We've had a rough weekend having lost three of our beloved animals over the past 4 days. On Thursday night, my mom's elderly horse, Apollo passed away at the ripe old age of 32 after battling kidney problems for almost two years. Friday night we had to make the heart-wrenching decision to put my sister's horse, Apache down after she suffered a major injury to her left hind leg that would leave her either paralyzed or at risk for a very serious infection that could spread very quickly. And this morning, I lost my first pet, my 21 year old goat, Suede due to old age. I miss them all terribly, but they aren't suffering anymore.
RIP Apollo (April 9, 1983- September 17,2015), Apache (May 13, 2001- September 18, 2015), and Suede (August 12, 1994- September 20, 2015).
-
Oooooh she's so sweet!! Thanks for the photos.

That was a toy snake with a bell in it. She played with it so much that she wore it out. I had to get her a new one.

She's a big girl!

Actually, I have a mini Christmas tree. Tatiana just looks big next to it.

We can't have a tree anymore. Cats tear it apart, lol. Oh well. One last thing to have to deal with each December...

I lost Aussie earlier this year, so I went and adopted my new baby, OJ. That is the name he had when I adopted him, so that is the name he's stuck with. You can use your imagination as for what the initials stand for, but I like to think they stand for Orange Juice, as he is full of energy and an orange tabby.
Here he is with Phoenix:

Lovely new picture of Charlotte, Amanda.
O.J. is a beautiful cat. He's an orange tabby, right?
-
Thanks, Tim!
O.J. is adorable, CeticTomboy!
-
That has just turned into a "look at my cute cat!" thread. lol.
I was going to post a photo of my orange tabby, Nero but it's pointless as he looks just like OJ.

Thanks guys! He's quite the little pistol, but he's so calm and patient, too. I've only had him for a few months, but as you can see from the first pic, he gets along super well with the dogs and and he, Phoenix and Max are inseparable.
And yes Tim, he is an orange tabby.

It has indeed turned into that--we cat parents like to show off our babies, too :) Please do post a photo of Nero; I'm sure we'd all like to see him.
-
I agree. Post a picture of your Nero, Lisa.
Cats are great.

I lost Aussie earlier this year, so I went and adopted my new baby, OJ.
Magnificent! :-)

And yes Tim, he is an orange tabby.
Tatiana is a brown tabby.

Nero is a very handsome cat. My sister has an orange tabby, too--his name is Steve. Not sure where the name came from.

Your Nero is a lovely cat, Lisa. A sweet orange tabby.

When I'm in the bath, the bathroom is closed. Tatiana will meow up a storm until I open the door again. She does not liked to be shut out of anything.

Fascinating, a Norwegian-Swedish-author called Beate Grimsrud (a female and better Knausgård, according to some) has written a novel that could have been about you, Tim, and Tatiana! In the book Evighetsbarna (= The children of eternity / the eternal children, published in Norwegian in 20015, by Cappelen Damm) you are called André and Tatiana is called Kassandra. Let's hope it gets translated into English!
In that novel the nurse anesthetist André and his cat, which should be the most learned cat in the world, considering all the lessons on all kinds of scientific subjects that André gives her, live in an appartment in a big snowy, northern city (Stockholm), but there are also some very famous Swedish (children's) books about a man and his hyperactive cat Findus living rurally, on a farm: "Pettson och Findus", by Sven Nordqvist. Apparantly they have been published in English too, as "Pettson and Findus". The illustrations are hilarious.

How is Tatiana doing these days Tim?
My wife took our two fur balls into the vet yesterday. They recommended one of those "calming collars" for Teddy who is a ball of stress. He's wearing it now without much fuss. My calico Sophia has a murmur that they want to pay some extra attention too (she sounds like a motorboat when she purrs). Nothing problematic for the time being as she's not yet four-years old but they do recommend an EKG at some point.
Otherwise a clean bill of health.

She's doing great. Thanks for asking.

Oh no, I hope it's not serious. Keep us posted.
-
She's fine...at least for the time being. Not much they can do about it other than some basic dietary treatments but it's really not an issue for the forseeable future.
-
That's good to hear.

so cute guys

Thank you.

How are all the kitties doing, everyone? This is my most recent photo of Charlotte:

I think she's pretty darn cute :) How is Tatiana, Tim?

Dudley looked quite remarkably like my cat Angus (1990-2005). The markings are eerily similar.

She's doing great. She'll be turning 7 this year (December 21st).

Perhaps they were distant cousins.

Tatiana has taken to getting up on my fridge. Sometimes, when I come into the kitchen, I don't see her (the fridge is right by my kitchen door).
When I don't notice her, she gives me a whack on the head with her paw (not her claws, which she keeps retracted when she does this). Guess she just wants to let me know that she's there.
She did it again last night. Gave me quite a start!

Sorry for being away for some time. Here are some new photos of some of my babies:

Unfortunately we lost Cocoa (Alex and Slingshot's mom) earlier this spring, but I see her every day in her boys. She was almost twenty five, so we had her for a good long while and she was a sweetheart until her dying day.

What beautiful animals.
So sorry to hear about the lost of Cocoa.

Tatiana got another clean bill of health from the vet.
Not bad for a seven year old kitty.
-
Phoenix, who is now 10, played a bit too rough with some pups at the park a few days ago and has a nasty wound on her neck now, but she's on antibiotics now, so she'll be okay in a bit.
Other than her, everyone is doing well.

Yeah, Phoenix turned 10 in Jan, but she is still really playful and full of energy. I adopted Shadow (German Shepherd and Husky mix) a month ago, so she’s a little hesitant to play with the boys, but is getting along really well with OJ (my cat) and Phoenix.
-
but is getting along really well with OJ (my cat)
It's a myth that cats and dogs are mortal enemies. I've seen plenty of occasions where they get on just fine.
-
We got a puppy and about two months later adopted 2 kittens. A second puppy came a year later. Because they grew up together they adored each other. One or both cats was often snoozing happily curled up next to one of the dogs. Never had a problem between them for 13 years.
-
Yep, cats and dogs can be the best of friends.
-
My mom told me a story about a dog her uncle had when she was a kid. He had this massive German Shepherd mix named Bosco who took it upon himself to be the protector of the friendly cats in the neighbourhood. There was a few tomcats in the area that would pick on the others. If Bosco was outside, the cats that were being picked on would run between his legs and stare the bully cats down, saying "I dare you to come closer" while Bosco would bare his teeth and growl (even though he would never hurt a fly). I always laugh when I hear her telling the story.
-
I have a couple Halloween cat figures.
Every year, when I take them out, Tatiana always gets curious about them. Of course, no doubt she wonders why these other cats never move.

Awww, what a nice picture of Charlotte.

I purchased this Halloween cat that makes hissing sounds when you push the button. The first time I tried it, Tatiana came running into the room. I guess she thought there was another cat in the apartment!

That's like OJ every time he hears a cat making noise. He always assumes that there is a cat talking to him and responds. It's absolutely hilarious that he has full-blown conversations with cats that can't hear him.
-
Yeah, I've seen Tatiana do that as well. Sometimes, when my windows are open, I can hear cats screeching outside somewhere.
Of course, Tatiana has to come have a look for herself.

Yeah, it is. Tatiana really is freaked out by that Halloween cat.

Got the Christmas tree up.
Time for Tatiana to try and knock it down.

Glad to know she's still with you! :)

Yep, I've had her nearly seven years now.
