I am Australian of Russian parentage. ;)
Ritenka, whereabouts in Australia are you? I'm in Perth.
I'm from Helsinki, Finland. The country of the Fabergé goldsmiths.
Mia
So you're just a stone's throw from St Petersburg :).
I've been to St Petersburg just twice and I made those trips several years ago.
actually its warm!!!! and windy too lol jk jk its really nice i love living here! im surprised its warm instead of being cold.......
I can claim descent on both my mother's and father's side from Norman Knights who came over with William the Conqueror .... Greg D
Hi
I'm new... I come from Italy!!!
Hi y'all. I'm a forum newbie from Fredericksburg, Virginia. Born in Minnesota, was an Army brat stationed all over the US and Germany. I'm Swedish/Norwegian descent (makes me very confused - the old joke is a Swede is just a dumb Norwegian and vice-versa).
My husband is English and I love the english countryside and people - that's why I love Martyn to death !! ;D
That's right, Arianwen! You'll receive a lovely warm welcome in Yorkshire & we'd be so glad to have you here!
(We've got some good pubs too! ;))
My accent is going to immediately brand me a southerner, but I'm a White Rose Yorkist through-and-through, so that should get me something, right? ;)
lol I should imagine so. Shall we go and have a pint in honour of good King Richard, then? ;D;)
Don't worry we'll soon have you saying 'cAstle' instead of 'cARstle' & 'bath' instead of 'bARth'!! ;D Actually I could do with elocution lessons!
First round's on me...better get here before last orders! ;D Bah gum!
Arianwen, sorry to get back to you so late. I also live in Spotsy county - Salem Fields, off Gordon Rd. What a wonderful find !!! :D
I have told my husband, Duncan, that I would be more than willing to move to England (he was born in Essex), but he likes the U.S.
We must get together as fellow Virginians (for the time being). There is a brew pub in F'burg that I've never tried before and is supposed to be very good. Let me know if you're interested
Arianwen,
By all means, we extend the invite to all in VA. We'll have a great time ! Hope you feel better soon. I had bonchitis a couple of weeks ago. Yuk. :(
I live in Canberra. I lived in Attadale (Perth) in 1998 for work reasons. Over the years my work has taken me to most capital cities of Australia. ;)
BTW my mom calls me Ritochka.
All the best,
Margarita
I'm Italian and I come from a town between Milano and Verona; BRESCIA!!!
:D
I am English, currently living in Surrey (oh how posh!). You might say that but if you just sit in the window of a cfae in the town centre and watch the number of poeple in Bureberry walk past you'll see it isn't!
Aparently, my paternal grandma is descened from the hugonauts, or something and my paternal grandfather is descened from proper Romany Gypsies. My paternal grandmother's side all have a big nose ( called the Smith nose), which i have sadly inherited!
sopsxx
Someone asked you for a TOUR around your home? They'd never do that to us i live in a 1940s pebble dash semi!
She sounds wonderful! I would have loved to have seen the look on her face! ;D
The smith nose is alright when your young but when you hit 35 it suddenly baloons!
I only wish I still spoke Russian...I am picking up little bits and pieces now. I never learned to write Cyrillic (sp?). I hope to speak it again by my graduation from high school.
The Telegraaf? That explains a lot: it's not a newspaper known for its reliable information.
By the way to all. Its said that the Russians would like to have Crown Prince Willema-Alexandra of the Netherlands and his wife, Maxima on the Russian trown if Russia ever becomes a monachy again. People of Russia really likes our Monarchy. ;D
Dank je Anna, hoe het komt?
Dat zal ik je eens even vertellen meid, door een documantaire toen ik 8 of 9 was...Over de moord.
RealAnastasia i'm also interested in Eva (Evita) Perón ;).
Robby,
To be honest I do like the English language very much, who likes to read Shakespeare in Dutch or some other language, I don't.
RealAnastasia- How small the world is. What do the Argentineans think of a common girl becoming Queen of the Netherlands? Or maybe they just don't care?
Anna

RealAnastasia i'm also interested in Eva (Evita) Perón ;).
Well, was she a saint or devil? (Evita Perón)
I hope she will manage to stay that way over the years. :) It would be too sad if she would loose this once she is a queen and under much more pressure and public scrutiny than now.
I have read her autobiography, 'in my own words: Evita', and saw two movies, 'Evita' the musical, and 'Evita' with Esther Goris.
Dia duit, gachdhuine! I am 100% Irish born and bred and I live in Dublin, the capital.
Hey, Ireland is my favorite country :D
Cool! Why is that?
Hoi Gerjo,
Can you tell us in what way you are related to C. Dickens, sounds very interesting.
regards,
Anna
I guess I am probably the only one from Oklahoma. :-[ The most boring place in existence. I am Irish/English/Russian/and a little Native American.

Irish mother, you say? That's interesting - I'm Irish myself, you see.
Wow, I didn't know there even were any Irish Romanov lovers :) My mother is from Mullingar originally. As a child, I spent lots of summers in Dublin with my grandmother.
Thanks for welcoming me. I have to confess I've been lurking here for a while but I thought I'd finally become official ;)
I'm from Hertfordshire, England - just north of London.

QuoteI have read her autobiography, 'in my own words: Evita', and saw two movies, 'Evita' the musical, and 'Evita' with Esther Goris.
The better one is the movie with Esther Goris and Victor Laplace in it. Pretty accurate, even if she was more older than the real Evita, who died when she was 33.
RealAnastasia.
You have to go to Skansen - the outdoor living museum, and also the Wasa Museum. The Mediaeval Museum is worth a visit, and also a stroll around Gamla Stan - the old quarter of Stockholm.[/b]

"it's Vasa. Wasa is technically not correct but spelt that way"[/b]
I thought in Old Swedish that W and V were interchangeable. I couldn't remember off hand whether the boat's name had been spelt with a W or a V. Men inget problem!
I'm from New Hampshire, USA. The President of France is summer vacationing here with his family, in Wolfeboro. The first family is staying with friends on their lakeside home. Wolfeboro is on Lake Winnipesaukee. Prince Rainier and Princess Grace vacationed in Wolfeboro which is the oldest summer resort in America, dating back to 1759. I like to swim and sail from my dad's boat, the Osprey. Or fish from a row boat. Right at the moment everyone's buzzing about President Sarkozy's stay. He dropped in at the Dockside Grille and Diary Bar for lunch last week and a couple of employees say he's a cool guy and very friendly. We travel from Center Conway down to the docks on Winnipesaukee, so I missed a chance to meet him, but it woulld've been cool if I did.
Salue tout le monde.

Aloha from beautiful island of Kaua'i - state of Hawai'i, USA
Once again you are making me EXTREMELY home sick... I was born on another amazing Hawaiian Island... Molokai! and it is in fact a gorgeous place to be.. lucky you!
Aloha from Kaua'i!
I know I've posted this before - but I live on the Hawaiian island of Kaua'i - one of the smaller, more rural islands.
Waaay out in the Pacific Ocean - we are supposed to be the most isolated land masses on earth!
I love it!

Alaska..... Brrr! Anyone wanna trade? BFG, I will trade you! :)
I am rather hard to pinpoint. I was raised in Pennsylvania and D.C., but ended up in San Francisco and London. I had an Air Force dad but never really knew him.
I consider my self more British than anything as I was raised and educated by British relatives and teachers. Went to British schools, for the most part and served as a British cadet in one of them. And I spend 3-6 months a year in England. Haven't a clue what the family heritage is. I have been told so many stories, I could pick and choose any I like. The Greek & Russian sounds the best though.
Philadelphia, Pa here. Living just outside of the city to be technical...
Because I was both very interested in knowing the breakdown of where the contributors to the AP forum are coming from and because I'm an uber nerd, I decided track each response the best I could. I've estimated the following...USA/Canada - 41.4%
Europe - 33.5%
UK/Ireland - 9.5%
Russia - 3.6%
OTHER - 12.1%
For those who claimed to be born/raised in one particular country but are currently residing in another I gave a half credit to the country of origin and a half credit to the country of residence. I really wish I had broken things out by more individual countries. When I first started tracking responses I didn't realize so many of us were from Germany, Netherlands, Canada (separately), etc. But at least this gives a rough estimate for those, probably very few, who are interested!
Hamburg, Germany
I'm 100% German, my ancestors came from Hamburg, Berlin and East Prussia
