After seeing that picture of her I had to look for info on her! I never paid attention to how pretty she was.

Basic info on Princess Madeline.......

During the years 1985-89, the Princess attended Västerled Parish Pre-School. In the autumn of 1989, she started Smedslättsskolan in Bromma, which she attended at the junior level. For the intermediate level, the Princess attended Carlssons School in Stockholm, and then proceeding from there to Enskilda Gymnasiet in Stockholm, which she attended at the senior level. Her upper secondary school was also spent at Enskilda Gymnasiet, from where she graduated in 2001.

During the autumn of 2001, the Princess lived in London where she studied English. Then in the spring of 2002, she continued with a basic course in law and studied for the European Computer Driving Licence. During the autumn of 2002, the Princess prepared for her coming university studies by deepening her knowledge in various subjects. In January 2003, the Princess enrolled at the University of Stockholm where

she began studies in the History of Art. She took 60 Swedish academical points in the subject (three terms). In the fall of 2004, the Princess began a course in ethnology at the same university.

Princess Madeleine is an enthusiastic rider, and for many years she owned several horses of her own (they were placed at the Royal Mews) and also competed in showjumping. She also enjoys skiing, and is very interested in cultural things such as theatre, dance and art.

The Princess is the protector of the organisation Min Stora Dag (the Swedish equivalent of Make-a-Wish Foundation).

Any one else agree with me that the Swedish royal family are without question the best looking royal family in Europe? Madeleine, Victoria and Carl Philip are all very attractive.

As a native Swede, I'd like to agree with you, but I think Caroline of Monaco's family is right up there, too!

One of the Wales's boys needs to marry Madeleine.  Princess Caroline's oldest son needs to marry one of the York girls.  Talk about the potential for beautiful Royal offspring.

Agreed.  Don't you find it utterly annoying, however, that the royal families do not let us be the matchmakers?

I completely agree. : - ) If it was just left up to us . . .

Andreas Casiraghi = Princess Beatrice (or maybe Zara Philips - she's pretty)

Prince William = Princess Madeleine

Prince Carl Philip = hmm . . . Any ideas? And what about Princess victoria?
Title: Re: Princess Madeline
Post by: Finelly on July 18, 2005, 06:48:37 PM
Caroline's daughter would be good for Carl Phillip....

As for Victoria, she can't marry a major royal figure outside of Sweden, since she will rule.  Plus, she's got that boyfriend of many years, with whom she lives....most inconvenient!

IMO, Princess Madeline most resembles her mother, and Crown Princess Victoria resembles her father.  Both extremely beautiful.  The best looking royals of the whole bunch ! :D

Hey, that's what I said earlier. IMO, the Bernadottes are the best looking royal family in Europe, and the House of Orange are the ugliest. Sorry, but it's the painful truth.

i agree queen (wilimeana ?) was quite beautifful when young which was strainge as her mother was so ugly neither queen juliana or biterix (her hair style is terrible) are that qood looking though Biterix was pretty when young. her sons are not perticualy hansum either but princess Maxim is very pretty.

The Swedish Court has confirmed that HRH Princess Madeleine is being harrassed by homophobe minister Phelps from the US."Minister" Fred Phelps has a website;"God hates Sweden" and cheered the great number of Swedes that died in the 2004 tsunami.

The reason for the twits anger and hate at present is that a swedish minister has been convicted for discriminating gays,(which really is a criminal offense in the civilised world),since that he sends insulting/cursing fax and e-mails on a daily basis to the King's youngest daughter.

I've seen that website and I've seen where he talks about the Swedish royal family. It's 100% disgusting. He posted a picture of the king and queen and their children and said something like "they were all gay" or looked gay -incredibly immature. The website isn't just God hates Sweden. There's a God hates *antigay slur* as well. According to Phelps, God also hates the United States, its military (according to him, everyone serving in the military is a homosexual), homosexuals, the pope, Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, Rosa Parks, and basically anyone else you can think of. I must be reading the wrong bible, because my copy has nothing in it about God's supposed hate.

Edited to add the fact that supposedly God hates Canada now, too.

Oh my Good Lord, that horrible man.  >:( :( I remember the first time I heard of him--back in about 1994. He's wretched and he has about 11 children that are all as warped as him and have all been to law school now. Frightening.

One of the last times he popped up on the US radar, he was busy picketing at the funerals of US troops with signs like 'Thank God for IEDs'. Supposedly, their deaths are God's punishment for toleration of gays. I'm usually a pretty peaceful person but I couldn't help but wish he'd pull that garbage at the wrong military funeral in the South and get a serious thrashing. He was forbidden from going to them but filed suit (see the above about lawyer children) claming First Amendment rights. They eventually got him pushed back a good enough distance.

Everything about him revolves around homosexuals and his hatred of them. He's a total whackjob. He also says Reagan is in hell because he had friends (from his Hollywood days) who were gay. The horror.

Hi,

This guy should be locked up in an insane asylum.  But then, he'd protest his "rights" had been violated and yet he's violating others' rights himself.

It is amazing how these crackpots can use the same arguments to justify themselves but yet rail against the rights of others.

The man is insane.

Probably. Most rabid homophobes hate something within themselves.

Unfortunately Phelps is simply saying, publicly, what the majority of Americans feel about Gay people privately. Being Gay myself, that observation comes from bitter (and repeatedly bitter) experience.

It's embarrassing that he chose to broadcast his hatred abroad- especially toward a member of another country's royal family. I would hope that The Princess is smart enough not to judge us all by the rantings of one fool.

Hi,

Well, now that Princess Madeleine's sister is engaged, I think it's time for her and Prince William to get married!!!
This has long been my hope for the European monarchies to revitalize themselves with a good old fashioned "Royal Wedding" - a Prince marries a Princess.  And, they're both so good lokking - imagine the children!!

Britain gave Margaret of Connaught to Sweden;  it's now time for Sweden to give back a princess!!!  Madeleine!!!
Go for it, William....

Hi Ingrid Alexie,

Well, obviously both of us are very smart and super intelligent to see this as a perfect marriage!!!!
I just thought I'd give both of us a "pat on the back".....

Perhaps William needs a smack on the back of his head and a ticket to Stockholm.....
If such a wedding took place, the intense interest in Royalty would again exist as it did with Charles & Diana.
Even though that marriage was disasterous, a 'William & Madeleine' one may just prove the charm.

Pat on your back, too, Larry!

I love looking at them. Princess Madeleine really is a suitable queen for UK and I'm sure she's gonna do her part well when she happens to be that.
Madeleine doesn't look like a party princess to me. Kate only does.

Madeleine Therese Amelie Josephine..what a lady!
Is she and Jonas Bergstrom going strong?

I know this is a really old piccie, but I do wonder about why Madeleine looks like she may have been blasted with a rather bright shade of orange tan paint? Those paint jobs were all the rage several years ago weren't they? I could never bring myself to try it.... the idea of being hosed down and turned 'glowing' sun-kissed uber - orange scared me! Is it still popular in Europe? As I have not seen any other piccies of Madeleine with such a 'glowing' deep tan...I found myself thinking of the drink tango and paint sprays!!!!!
Title: Re: Princess Madeline
Post by: Erika on May 04, 2009, 03:47:43 PM
I agree. It isn't very becoming. No, I don't think it's popular here anymore, at least not in Sweden. I remember girls talking about this a couple of years ago, but they were all displeased with the result and only tried it once.

She's prettier when she's pinkish-white.

Yes. I agree that that fake tan she had isn't very becoming, but I understand why she likes turning her skin tan. This is very common in Sweden. We are all so very pale and during the winter we almost look sick because we are so pale. If our skin looks a little bin tanner, we look much healthier.

Thanks for your explanation, Erika. Sweden has a very cold climate that can make all your skin so pale.

stated that Princess Madeleine and Jonas will not marry this year.It wasn't planned to be this year anyway either.

Rumours tackled or not, there apparently is a separation of this couple.
A girl from Norway got to story out she had a "one night stand" with Jonas while on
a skiing outing this winter and that she had no clue he already had a girlfriend

Princess Madeleine will soon leave to work in the US.Painfull and sad.

It is official. The couple seperated and asks to respect their decision not to publish details according to the statement from the Palace.
Princess Madeleine left for New York today where she will attend World Childhood Day tomorrow.

It was funny that the Swedish RF keeps silent about the break-up, but King Harald of Norway (quite close relative of Madeleine) remarked with a laugh that he thought it better with a break-up before the wedding than after - when he was coming out from the opening of a centennial jubilee exhibition about Norwegian author Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, arch-enemey of King Oscar II!

The oldest trick in the world by that norwegian too......

Oh no,but that was the point he flew on,he loved that, the attention.
Thing is,well was,he fooled around more then once and the norwegian sl** claiming she didn't know who
he was untill she received 12.500 by a rag to revive her memory and tell all.

That was even before the engagement but Jonas had promissed never to do that again.... ::)

He played with Madde's feelings a lot,and often, until apparently Queen Silvia
intervened and had a mother/daughter talk,as did her brother and sister.

Here's that gorgious youngest daughter of the King, and he played tricks as if he owned the world
and could get away with anything.Wrong.

Poor poor Madde.

You are right in the respect that she was a "free agent" to live her own life and he was not a married man...but she did sell her story.....that was not exactly ladylike behaviour..she would have been better to issue a statement or to direct the give the money be given to charity.

Jonas Bergström's femme fatale was from Meråker next to the Swedish-Norwegian border in the Central Norwegian Region of Trøndelag, the only part of present-day Norway to suffer Swedish occupation (for two years in the 17th century - it cut Norway in two pieces!). Is this revenge!?

His mother Eva Maria Walter is an Austrian and some kind of NY socialite once mentioned as a woman Prince Charles had an affair with more then 20 years ago...

So,we might expect very interesting guest list :)

Double posting again (sorry!) but Madeline attended a concert of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, which was in New York. She really suits that brown hair better than her blonde I think!

It was an incredibly personal and lovely wedding. They both BEAMED with happiness especially the groom, who was quite emotional...that was quite touching. I loved Madeleine's choices from her jewelry to her dress, which I'm afraid I did not care for below the bodice. I thought it was so awesome that Victoria and Daniel brought Estelle! That made the wedding even less formal even though the gents were wearing white tie and ladies in gowns and major jewelry. Well done!

My opinion on the whole ceremony? It was simply beautiful! Chris was emotional, and neither of them could stop smiling when they could. I was moved by the ceremony personally. Madeleine is so regal looking too.

I loved Madeleine's dress except for the dust ruffle on the bottom. Other than that, I thought it was lovely, classy and a dress that will hold up well over time. The tiara and flowers and other accessories were spot on as well. I'm so glad she's gone darker (though she was a lovely blonde) as it really makes her eyes pop and that she's laid off the spray tanning! She's so beautiful and it made her look cheapish.

Victoria looked lovely and it was so cute to see Daniel holding her clutch when she was carrying Estelle. They seem a very happy family. Queen Silvia looked beautiful--the Swedish royal women all represented well in their gowns and tiaras. Wasn't too impressed with Marie Chantal (that dress looked too close to white), Sophie Wessex (she looked frumpy and usually she turns out well for these occasions) or Princess Charlene (brown gown? yuck and no jewelry). Lots of royal men in uniform--that usually goes well. :)

Chris took Madeleine to the same Seychelles island and villa that Prince William and Kate stayed in during their honeymoon in 2011. Unfortunately, I found about about this because the Swedish paparazzi discovered their location and took pictures of them, which infuriated Madeleine. She took to her Facebook page and posted the following:

''We continue to thank everyone for their loving warmth and well wishes regarding our marriage. Sadly, the Swedish tabloid press have taken it upon themselves to destroy our privacy and place private photographs of us in their publications today. The one thing we wish is that, if only for these few days, our privacy can now be respected.''

I totally agree about her eyes. Ever since she went back to her natural hair color, which looks absolutely gorgeous on her by the way, her eyes are even more intense. All of the King and Queen's children are incredibly beautiful. Now we just need to get Prince Carl Philip to stop using so much hair product and get a decent hairstyle!

They are indeed, a really striking beautiful blue! They have all been blessed with their good looks I think. Even little Estelle! I think Carl Phillip needs a decent hairstyle too! But they are all nice looking.

Oh and Madeleine and Chris are on their honeymoon in the Seychelles, if I remember right. It's a shame the Swedish press leaked the honeymoon pics, as Madeleine put on her facebook page.

The first two official photos of princess Leonore Lilian Maria, countess of Gotland.

I first thought there was morganatic* Gothic / Gotham slumming going on here à la Count of Wisborg, but it turns out that Leonore dicta Bernadotte O'Neill is indeed Duchess of Gotland, in the proud succession of said degraded Count of Wisborg and king-turned-pirate Erik / Bogislav of Pomerania. And not forgetting her grandfather the King and her cousin the Queen of Denmark, whose successors both used to claim to be de Götes (och Vendes) konung.

Very fitting that she's the Duchess of an island, considering that the O'Neills provided many high kings of Ireland and that the MacNeils are based on the Hebridean island of Barra.
The nearest Swedish equivalent of O'Neill is of course Nilsson. The most famous Gotlandic Nilson so far being Visby-based Pippi Longstocking's monkey herr Nilsson. Har du sett min apa, min fina söta lilla apa. Har du sett herr Nilsson, ja för han heter faktisk så. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZtMNCBWOUo)

* Strangely it is the opposite of morganatism going on here, a title being transmitted (or rather bestowed) via the cognatic line.

I'm so confused. How is Leonore an HRH, a princess and a duchess of Sweden. Has the King set a new president? Or, are the rules in Sweden that much different from all the other monarchies?

I'm so confused. How is Leonore an HRH, a princess and a duchess of Sweden. Has the King set a new president? Or, are the rules in Sweden that much different from all the other monarchies?

There has been no formal decision on this, as far as I know. It's just a new precedent based on the cognatic succession law. But there has been some gradual development. During the agnatic succession order untill 1980, "princess" was really just a courtesy title with no substance, as a princess had no succession rights. That only the title of "prince" was substantive is well showed by the fact that only they held dukedoms. When cognatic succession was introduced in 1980, the freshly minted Crown Princess Victoria, then 3 years old, was given a dukedom. Her sister Madeleine and daughter Estelle naturally received one at birth. So it's only logical that Madeleine's daughter, who, just like her cousin Estelle has succession rights through her mother, as a descendant of Carl XVI Gustaf (as per the Succession Law of 1810, 1 §)  also is a princess and receives one.

BTW a more critical issue may be the Succession Laws requirement that princes and princesses must be "brought up in Sweden". The Court has stated they interpret this as a requirement from the age of six, i.e. start of schooling.
Title: Re: Princess Madeline
Post by: Превед on February 26, 2014, 12:55:38 PM
BTW the same thing happened in Belgium when they introduced cognatic primogeniture in 1991. The children of Princess Astrid were upgraded from agnatic Archdukes of Austria-Este to Princes and Princesses of Belgium.

* Is there any constitutional difference in Russian here between styling her Принцесса Шведская (adjectival) or Швеции (genitive)? I have noticed that lesser royals usually get the adjectival style, while reigning monarchs get the genitive of the country's name.

But I noticed that her Russian Wikipedia article styles her " Принцесса Швеции". Is it because of her unique constitutional position, i.e. being наследница Швеции just like the Romanovs were наследник Норвежкий.

Princess Madeleine's son, Prince Nicolas Paul Gustaf, Duke of Ångermanland, was christened today in the chapel of Drottningholm Palace, by the German-born Archbishop(ess) Antje Jackelén.
See http://ru-royalty.livejournal.com/3426522.html (http://ru-royalty.livejournal.com/3426522.html) for pics.

Godparents:
Prince Carl Philip (maternal uncle), Countess Natascha Abensperg und Traun (paternal aunt), Gustaf Magnuson (maternal cousin), Katarina von Horn (Swedish noblewoman), Henry d'Abo (father's brother-in-law) and Marco Wajselfisz (Jewish?).

The d'Abo family has a very interesting history: Descending from a 16th century family first of Åbo / Aabo (presumably in Denmark, not Åbo / Turku in Finland), then in Århus, Norway, Netherlands Indies and finally in England. Henry d'Abo is the first cousin of the current Duke of Rutland.

BTW it was reported that Madeleine was very upset that her friend Emma Pernald, Carl Philip's ex-girlfriend, was not to be invited. Does Princess Sofia really feel that threatened by her former rival? One would perhaps think that this is a sign that Sofia can't cope with the upper classes' bedhopping games, but then she is hardly respectable middle class herself. Perhaps it's Paradise Hotel / real redneck melodramatic antics showing.

Equally pretentious is of course the spelling "Nicolas", for a name that is usually found in the form "Niklas" in Sweden. At least they could have used the etymologically correct form Nikolas.

Ô-la-la, Swedish Internauts are speculating that Princess Madeleine wanted Emma Pernald to be one of the godparents, but it was vetoed by toffeln (= the slipper, i.e. henpecked) Calle P and his Miss Slitz! Wow, the Swedish RF is really turning into some version of the trashy Kardashians.

How would Carl Phillip and Sofia be able to stop who Madeleine and her husband wanted for their child's godparent though?

In two ways:
- By refusing to attend the baptism, something which would have caused a scandal.
- By Carl Philip refusing to be a godparent himself.
