-
I became interested in the Romanovs only gradually after watching Nicholas & Alexandra on TV several times and reading some newspaper articles on the occasion of the official burial. I finally wanted to know more about the "true story", so I read Massie's book, and then I was hooked by it.
I had already been fascinated by the Tudors since I was a teenager, again mainly from watching TV ;D .
Where do you live Zarevna Olga?
-
I am living in Cologne (Köln).
-
I live in Leipzig.

I'm not from Germany but my husband is. I've been fortunate to visit many lovely places in Germany. :)
P.S. This is my first post to this newsgroup so if something doesn't come out right, please forgive.

Dankeschon, Dankeschoen, Danke schoen! (However it's spelled, it means my greatest gratitude to both of you, Alexander and Aleksandr).
What's Bitte by the way and how do you pronounce it? Sorry for inquiring...

Please......... Find yourself a basic German dictionary and you'll understand the answer and irony of this reply. AP

I'll take your suggestion..Thanks.

I don't qualify to this company of people who are Germans today.
My mother's and grandmother's mother tongue was German, but they used it in St. Petersburg from where my grandmother fled in times of the Russian Revolution (1917). Here they learned an other language and it was dangerous to use the Russian language.
However German was spoken in our family and my mother used it as her mother tongue until the times changed. Around the 1950-ties the churches were not the only one to keep registers of people's birth and death dates, but there was started an office for that. Somehow then my mother's mother tongue was changed to the local languare.
I often feel as if I had been deprived my mother tongue. In order to feel complete I should speak German, Russian, Swedish and French and not at all the language that is mentioned my mother tongue.
My mother has wanted to become like women here, but she has failed. She is not natural in many situation but feel false even to me - or at least I notice it if others don't. Ther rythm of her speech is different as well as the movements that belong to the language.
The coming generations might ge
We should discuss more about this topic because we now life in global economy where people even loose their roots and not only the language.

Moin!

Ich bin schockiert. Was für Proleten - haha.
