Title: Queen Elizabeth II - Pictures
Post by: Lord Strathclyde on December 02, 2005, 12:28:48 PM
Like her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II is a very Regal Queen.

I haven't found a topic to post pictures,  :-/

It would be great if pictures of Her Majesty The Queen could be posted here.

That is indeed a regal portrait of the Sovereign. :)

I wonder if anyone here can help, I am looking for pictures of the Queen in her military uniform. The one she used to wear for the Trooping of the Colour. Would anyone have any pictures of the Sovereign? I need them for a College presentation of the Trooping of the Colour.

Thank you

Best I can do at the moment Im afraid.  I used to love watching Trooping The Colour - my favourite but was when HM would arrive on Horse Guards at 11am, and salute to her late mother (QETQM) - who was at the Major-General's window.  Im afraid that watching HM being wheeled around, doesnt have the same excitement and pagentry than seeing HM in uniform and riding side-saddle of course!

Good luck with the project

The Viscount

I have made fun of the way QEII used to dressed years ago on many occasions but I think she looks lovely in this photo.  Ball gounds tend to look wonderful on QEII which is strange because she is so short!

I’m not a Brit, but I wish I was :)

I wish you would appreciate more what you have

What I like most about Trooping the Colour is that the troops are “real”; they all have seen “action”;

I hope your presentation will come out well "Earl of Leicester"

Whilst posing for the portrait, the Queen was asked to gaze out of the window and then look towards Rolf as if she was about to greet a beloved grandson. A few strokes into the portrait, Rolf asked her "Can ya tell what it is yet" (his catch-phrase) and much laughter ensued. IMHO it is a delightful portrait, lively, warm and very human.

Apparently Rolf attempted something that most painters usually steer clear of - depicting a smile that shows teeth.

The portrait has a nice friendly feel to it, a world away from some of the earlier ones that are perhaps more majestic.  This painting attempts to show the human side of HM, and to that purpose must be viewed as a success.

Rolf apparently is also proud of the way that he executed the hands - always a challenge even for the most talented artist..........

In the 50's or early 60's there was a portrait painted of Queen Elizabeth II where she is standing in front of a mirror and holding a fan.  She is wearing a strapless gown, Queen Mary's tiara, and the Garter ribbon.  Is anyone familiar with this portrait and who the artist is?

Thank you

I think that browns, creams and other colours of that pallet suit the queen extremely well, Although i must say that yellows especially in spring time also suit her and i believe they reflect her personality. Sadly we no-longer see the queen in ball-gowns. Does anyone else agree with me in that they suit her alot more then the dresses she wears for such occasions these days. For instance the dress she wore for the Malta state visit, thank heavens for the Jewels to draw attention away from it.

Yes, ballgowns suited her most IMO, but I'll concede that she is no longer at an age to be wearing them, and she realizes this, too. What she wears now (as formal dress) is age-appropriate and simple in color and style. And since she owns maybe some of the finest jewels in the world, simple is what works best to set them off the most.

The pic I LOVE is her coming out of the State Opening of Parliament wearing a cream dress and fur-lined robe... she looks like a million bucks and she knows it. She certainly looks like a queen should.

Thanks for the great pictures! If it's one thing I just realized I'm glad of, it's that I'm glad she didn't inherit Cookie's teeth genes. She has such a lovely smile. And although I know very well Elizabeth's ancestry, it still gives me kind of a shock when I see George V's miniature on her orders. It seems like such a long time ago when he reigned, but really, it wasn't.

Dear all,
My name is Gabriel, and I just discovered that forum and that there are many Queen experts here.

I'm working for a brand that will make a gift to the Queen for her BDAY. I'm in charge of this project and I would be grateful if somebody could help me on resolving these:
-Do you know her favorite colours?
-Is there a specific design often used for her birthday?
-Is there a idea linked to her birth (shape of anything, colour, special anecdote)?

Hope I'm not disturbing the discussion (I know how it is, I use forums on other topics... )

Thank you very much!

Well she is a Taurus but on the cusp so she probably is influenced a lot by Aries.

Typical Taurus colours are pastels and blues. Where as Aries tend to like black, white and red. I would go with the former but it doesn't always ring true.  :)

Probably go with a traditional design as you can't really go wrong.

For color, I'd recommend using her much loved racing colours.  The Queen uses the racing colours which were also used by King Edward VII and George IV. These consist of a purple body with gold braid, scarlet sleeves and black velvet cap with a gold fringe.

I don't know of any particular design or shape that might be linked specifically to HM's birth.  However, I do know that she often wears broaches and tiaras with a bow design, so she must favor that shape.

I think she looks better now than she did in middle age. She's aging very well. I was glad when she allowed her hair to go white--it suits her coloring.

You're right, she is looking very well but she was slimmer a few years ago and I think that was healthier for her. She lost a bit of weight for her Golden Jubilee too and that looked good. It must not be easy when a person is that short. I know she gets plenty of excercise. Of course she and Queen Mary both had plump mothers which may tend to show up as they age in their combined genes.

Time to make salad. See you later.

Can this woman possibly get any better?  When she assumed the throe at 26 years of age, she was a very dowdy 26 year old.

Look at her now at almost 80 years of age!  I do not think you can get anymore "with it" than this.

This is now my favorite picture of her and this is now my favorite of her suits and hats ensembles.

When Princess Diana paseed on to a better place a "style and glamour" vacuum was created.  Who would have ever thought that this "style and glamour" vacuum would have been filled by none other than QEII.

I love this image, when i see it i think of Queen Elizabeth as a glamourous and extremely famous person who represents the re-birth of Britain and the future; at the same time a cut above the rest. Even of the great beauties and Queen of the Silver screen Marilyn Monroe also is in awe of the remarkable woman. (perhaps one is merely being pretentious)

I believe that cameras were not allowed inside Pariliament at the actual opening until 1958, so there probably aren't pictures from 1952.

Are there any eye-wtiness accounts that mention whether she wore the crown or not?  My guess would be that she wore the circlet/diadem during the opening.

Although not an eye-witness account i found a source that states "The British State Opening of Parliament is known for its magnificence, the use of tiaras by the royal ladies and the use of the Imperial State Crown by the monarch, who sits in the Throne of the magnificent House of Lords to deliver the speech. However, since the Queen had not yet been crowned, she could obviously not wear the Imperial State Crown. And so, Her Majesty wore the splendid King George IV State Diadem, which she wore ever since on her way to the State Opening, from Buckingham Palace. But, on that first year, Her Majesty sat on the throne and delivered her speech wearing the diadem, giving a clear evidence that she was already Queen and still not crowned or anointed. Her Majesty wore the robe of crimson velvet trimmed with ermine and bordered with gold lace that had belonged to her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria." Which shows she did indeed wear the George IV Diadem throughout the whole ceremony.

There was a recent article in the Daily Mail showing some examples of pictures of the royal family which where all christmas cards sent to an employ every-year untill his death in 2003. These are some examples:
1956
(http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e367/Bofferding/RoyalChristmas-1956.jpg)

1965
(http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e367/Bofferding/RoyalChristmas-1965.jpg)

1969

1983

1998
(http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e367/Bofferding/RoyalChristmas-1998.jpg)

I apologise for the size of the images, however I must admit that I lack the knowledge as how to decrease their proportion.

I am giving my age away with this.  I recall seeing in a magazine (not a rag but Life or Time or something above a tabloid) an informal photograph of the Queen, surrounded by a couple of her children, holding baby Andrew or Edward  .... 1960-1964

The palace was in a tizzy because it was a photo of the Queen sitting up in her bed.  It was just the kind of picture that would be in any family's album.

The picture was confiscated and never published again.  As I recall, one of the royal family's children was the source of this.

Is there anyone else who remembers this?

This makes me older that dirt, I know.

YESSSSSS--a nice view of the spikey thingy tiara--reaffirms my dislike of the piece :(

I'm really noticing that the Queen really is dressing nicely these days.  Even the orange coat and dress (orange usually not a color I like) is most striking and looks well on her.  Has she moved beyond the Queen Mum's influence or begun commissioning pieces from a new designer?  Whatever, she looks better than she has for years!!

I agree, the Queen is dressing very nicely :)

The Tiara could of have been designed much better, it's not a very elegant peice.

I'm not too crazy about the outfit (esp without the jacket) and the hat looks like one of Sophie's but I love, love the color on her. So bright and cheery--you'd definitely spot her if you were one of the crowd gathering to welcome her. I think it's great how she's wearing such bold colors--women a third of her age often shy away from such shades. I've said it before, but I think she's has really blossomed in her style over he last few years and is looking better than she has since she was a young Queen.

Many thanks to all who have shared their pictures of her.

The aforementioned Mr. Ron Walker, Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Corporation and Mr. Steve Bracks, Premier of Victoria ( pictured next to HM in reply 288 ) decided not to allow a few seconds of time to play "God Save The Queen" during the opening ceremony by Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen is at this time head of the Commonwealth.  She accepted the invitation to travel to the other side of the world to declare the Commonwealth Games open so, in my opinion, she should have had this simple courtesy accorded her.

Naturally, HM smiled graciously throughout but this snub certainly would not have gone unnoticed.

The situation was somewhat rectified by the singing of "Happy Birthday" by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa followed by a short rendition of "God Save The Queen" by same.

Getty has two images of former President Harry Truman and Queen Elizabeth II.  They are Images # 50529010 and 50529011.
My initial search for "Harry Truman" also showed pics of Pres. Bush, but I clicked on  the other people ( approx 362), scrolled down and found Elizabeth II.

How innocent and unsuspecting is a royal infant and toddler, not yet realizing the weight of responsibility and expectation that will be foisted on his or her shoulders!

I hope she will sit on the trone as long as Queen Victoria did.
She will keep on wearing some of Queen Alexandra's jewels for a lot of years as a Queen.
Be as gracious as her royal grandmother was at the age of eigthy.
And reach at least the same age as her mother did.

I really like the last three outfits pictured. The Queen looks very nice.  I particularly like the pink one she wore to Oxford. She was there also, to unveil a memorial(?) to Princess Margaret. Wasn't pink Princess Margaret's favorite color? If so, a nice tribute from one sister to another.

How sweet! The Queen must miss her. Princess Margaret once said of the Queen, "Even if she wasn't my sister I would still want her as my best friend"

Very touching.

ha ha ha.  It's a very nice sentiment, but a cynic might interpret that quote another way, of course Princess Margaret would want the Queen for her best friend...lol.

And Tampa, I rather like the green print suit.  I think HM wears it very well, what is it that you don't like about it?

Yes, Tampa, I too think the suit looks quite nice on HM!

Just think back to what the Queen Mother was wearing when she was 80 -- that should teach you a little more appreciation!  [smiley=laugh.gif] Hehehe!
