Welcome to the forum!
Don't worry, its not a bizarre topic. There is already a topic about this. I would give you the link but I'm too lazy! Just try the search button and you should be able to find it.  ;)

here's a game. We can post songs, and we have to guess who (Plural. maybe.) or what the song is about.

Here's one  ;)

i write clever words on paper
i sometimes think i dont belive at all
ive never felt so fake
so false
im such a liar
i couldnt even look him in the eyes
he was 25 like i was
but he was deaf and slowly going blind
he made my faith seem worthless
the things i hoped were pointless
and he fought to stay but
always dreamed that he could leave this place
the angels wings will cover you tonight
hallelujah
press your head
against the breast of christ
hallelujah
It made me feel so empty
collapsing on some dirty bathroom floor
and isn't it just like me to warn his passing breath
when he will never suffer anymore
beautiful his pictures
fading black and silver
and i sing of faith but his was true and fierce
and i will miss him
the angels wings will cover you tonight
hallelujah
press your head against the breast of christ
hallelujah
the angels wings will cover you tonight
hallelujah
press your head against the breast of christ
hallelujah

guess away

I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie (http://www.sing365.com/music/Lyric.nsf/I-Will-Follow-You-Into-the-Dark-lyrics-Death-Cab-For-Cutie/3A0274561951D87E48257059000C1194) -- it reminds my of Nicky and Alicky. So does Kissing You by Des'ree (http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Kissing-You-lyrics-Des'ree/150CB1236E9DDA6348256E16000A1610) and My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion (http://www.lyrics007.com/Celine%20Dion%20Lyrics/My%20Heart%20Will%20Go%20On%20Lyrics.html). And welcome to the Forum you guys!

The song that goes to Nicholas and Alexandra is Alan Jackson's Remember When.  Just listening to the lyrics is enough.
Another would be Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven
And finally Real Love by the Beatles.

The lyrics and beats of each I felt were perfect.  I listen to them often whenever I am adding new things to the fan ficiton.   :)

Yesterday by The Beatles reminds me a lot of Nicholas. Its kind of sad and sounds like something Nicholas might sing while he was under captivity.

Calypso breezes
Imperial dreams[ch65533]
 Velvet curtains
And golden beams
Flow from that window
Opened to past,
To bring its stories;
Show them at last!
[ch65533]
A poet girl
Appears now first.
Her eyes are starry blue,
Her hair is very fair,
Soft it is, and wavy
And floats in the clear air.
Her looks are a muse[ch65533]s:
Roses in one hand;
In the other one, a notebook:
Feelings, heart and mind.
-Her name was Olga.
[ch65533]
A graceful fairy girl
Comes now.
Her eyes are gray,
Her hair is dark.
She dances, artistic;
Sings with a lovely voice[ch65533]
Yet strong, like a goddess,
Her lance she can hoist.
Valiant she is, and selfless;
Well balanced; a nurse.
-She was Tatiana.
[ch65533]
Then hurries an angel girl,
So darling, pure and sweet,
To wave and kindly send a kiss,
Her dreams again to meet.
Her massive hair, so bright and soft,
Is moving while she smiles with joy.
Her dark blue big eyes show the love
Of a young lady with a mother[ch65533]s hope.
-Her name, Maria.
[ch65533]
The youngest girl
[ch65533]comes jumping now.
She[ch65533]s fun, the actress,
The imp, the clown.
Her smile is roguish,
Her eyes, two stars;
Her frown is clever,
Her mind, the sky.
She laughs and giggles,
A spark lights her face.
She runs then, in hurry,
A new joke to play.
-That was Anastasia.
[ch65533]
And last, the hoped one,
The boy, the Heir;
The brave young fighter,
The son brought by fate.
He looks so dashing,
With those great blue eyes;
With an eagle[ch65533]s braveness,
Bold he stands and guards;
Yet with the most tender
And loving good heart.
-He was Alexei
[ch65533]
These five were the children
That had the last crowned Tsar:
Four lovely young flowers
And the brightest star.
Tragedy once caught them,
And death, and despise[ch65533]
Yet they tell the secrets
Once concealed by time[ch65533]
 And Heaven with mercy
And Grace upon them
Restores their souls
And mementoes again[ch65533]

ANASTASIA ROMANOV

Your fingers traced the outlines of gold
in your palace for one last time
before being forced to live in
a small house, away from the world.
Though your sisters began to lose hope,
you believed that one day,
you would return home.
Whispers of execution rose from the streets
and filled your mind.
The angels finally took you home
like you always believed.
Many women have claimed to be you,
all have been proven wrong.
The palace where you once lived,
now echoes with the sound of your voice,
from so long ago.

I really like this song and it reminds me of OTMA and their death; like its something they might say before death:

Jem - 24

Been given 24 hours
To tie up loose ends
To make amends
His eyes said it all
I started to fall
And the silence deafened
Head spinning round
No time to sit down
Just wanted to
Run and run and run
Be careful they say
Don't wish life away,
Now I've one day

And I can't believe
How I've been wasting my time

In 24 hours they'll be
Laying flowers
On my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
Need your blessing
And your promise to live free
Please do it for me

Is there a heaven a hell
And will I come back
Who can tell
Now I can see
What matters to me
It's as clear as crystal
The places I've been
The people I've seen
Plans that I made
Start to fade
The sun's setting gold
Thought I would grow old,
It wasn't to be

And I can't believe
How I've been wasting my time

In 18 hours they'll be
Laying flowers
On my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
Need your blessing
And your promise to live free
Please do it for me

In 13 hours they'll be
Laying flowers
On my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
Need your blessing
And your promise to live free
Please do it for me

I'm not alone, I sense it, I sense it
All that I said, I meant it, I meant it

And I can't believe
How much I've wasted my time

In just 8 hours they'll be
Laying flowers
On my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
Need your blessing
And your promise to live free
Please do it for me

In just 1 hour they'll be
Laying flowers
On my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
Need your blessing
And your promise to live free
Please do it for me

There is actually two songs that do mention Nicholas and Alexandra and Alexei.

In Ra Ra Rasputin by Boney M
Which is a song about Rasputin.  I will post the lyrics in my next post.

Jukebox in Siberia.
Mentions something along the lines of Rasputin dancing with the Tsar.

Ra Ra Rasputin is one of my favourites and it is a boppy song.

Come What May by Mario Frangoulis reminds me of the great love Nicholas and Alexandra had for each other.

The songs
"I Dreamt I Was An Architecht" by the Decemberists
and
"King Without A Crown" by Matisyahu both remind me of Nicholas and Alexandra...
I've actually written a few songs about the IF myself, but they're all pretty lousy... I'd post them, but I'm not sure they're appropriate for this thread.

This song by The Corrs reminds me of Anastasia so much! It's a really sweet song:

She lived like she knew nothing lasts.
Didn't care to look like anyone else.
And she was beautiful, so beautiful.
I still hear her laugh like she's here.

Shower it down on all the young.
It isn't so wrong to have such fun.

Forever angel
I hope they love yo like we do
Forever angel
I'll be proud to be like you
Be like you
(I'll be proud to be like you)

Does the sun shine up at you when you are looking down?
Do you get along with the others around?

It's got to be better than before.
You don't need to worry now you're gone.

Forever angel
I hope they love you like we do
Forever angel
I'll be proud to be like you
Be like you
Just like you

And when I go to sleep at night,
I'll thank you for each blessed thing sorrounding me.
For every fall I'll ever break.
Each moment's breath I wanna taste.
Confidence and conscience.
Decadent extravagance.
Never ending providence.
For loving when I had the chance.

Forever angel
I hope they love you like we do
Forever angel
I'll be proud to be like you
Forever angel
I'll be proud to be like you
Forever angel
I'll be proud to be like you

This song by My Chemical Romance reminds me of OTMAA a lot:
Mama, we all go to hell.
Mama, we all go to hell.
I'm writing this letter and wishing you well,
Mama, we all go to hell.

Oh, well, now,
Mama, we're all gonna die.
Mama, we're all gonna die.
Stop asking me questions, I'd hate to see you cry,
Mama, we're all gonna die.

And when we go don't blame us, yeah.
We'll let the fires just bathe us, yeah.
You made us, oh, so famous.
We'll never let you go.
And when you go don't return to me my love.

Mama, we're all full of lies.
Mama, we're meant for the flies.
And right now they're building a coffin your size,
Mama, we're all full of lies.

Well Mother, what the war did to my legs and to my tongue,
You should've raised a baby girl,
I should've been a better son.
If you could coddle the infection
They can amputate at once.
You should've been,
I could have been a better son.

And when we go don't blame us, yeah.
We'll let the fires just bathe us, yeah.
You made us, oh, so famous.
We'll never let you go.

She said: "You ain't no son of mine
For what you've done they're gonna find
A place for you
And just you mind your manners when you go.
And when you go, don't return to me, my love."
That's right.

Mama, we all go to hell.
Mama, we all go to hell.
It's really quite pleasant
Except for the smell,
Mama, we all go to hell.

2 - 3 - 4
Mama! Mama! Mama! Ohhh!
Mama! Mama! Mama! Ma...

[Liza Minelli:] And if you would call me your sweetheart,
I'd maybe then sing you a song

[Gerard Way:] But there's shit that I've done with this f*** of a gun,
You would cry out your eyes all along.

We're damned after all.
Through fortune and flame we fall.
And if you can stay then I'll show you the way,
To return from the ashes you call.

We all carry on (We all carry on)
When our brothers in arms are gone (When our brothers in arms are gone)
So raise your glass high
For tomorrow we die,
And return from the ashes you call.

DJ Sammy Lyrics
Heaven Lyrics

oh thinkin about our younger years
there was only you and me
we were young and wild and free
Now nothing can take you away from me
we've been down that road before
but thats over now
you keep me coming back for more

Baby you're all that i want
When you're lying here in my arms
Im finding it hard to believe
we're i heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isnt too hard to see
We're In Heaven
We're in heaven

Now nothing can change what you mean to me
there's a lot that i can say
but just hold me now
cuz our love will light the way

Baby you're all that i want
When you're lying here in my arms
Im finding it hard to believe
we're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isnt too hard to see
We're In Heaven

Now ourdreams are coming true
through the good times and the bad
i'll be standing there by you

we're in heaven
love is all that i need
And i fnd it there in your heart
it isnt to hard to see
we're i heaven

We're in heaven

Here is the lyrics to Rasputin by Boney M

There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow
Most people looked at him with terror and with fear
But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear
He could preach the bible like a preacher
Full of ecstacy and fire
But he also was the kind of teacher
Women would desire

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
There was a cat that really was gone
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia's greatest love machine
It was a shame how he carried on

He ruled the Russian land and never mind the czar
But the kasachok he danced really wunderbar
In all affairs of state he was the man to please
But he was real great when he had a girl to squeeze
For the queen he was no wheeler dealer
Though she'd heard the things he'd done
She believed he was a holy healer
Who would heal her son

(Spoken:)
But when his drinking and lusting and his hunger
for power became known to more and more people,
the demands to do something about this outrageous
man became louder and louder.

"This man's just got to go!" declared his enemies
But the ladies begged "Don't you try to do it, please"
No doubt this Rasputin had lots of hidden charms
Though he was a brute they just fell into his arms
Then one night some men of higher standing
Set a trap, they're not to blame
"Come to visit us" they kept demanding
And he really came

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
They put some poison into his wine
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia's greatest love machine
He drank it all and he said "I feel fine"

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
They didn't quit, they wanted his head
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia's greatest love machine
And so they shot him till he was dead

(Spoken:) Oh, those Russians...

i reckon this song reminds me of all of them read it tell me what you think

Living Without You - Sandy
Took for granted what we had
Until you went away
You went and broke my heart
Into a thousand pieces
Even though it's not your fault
I'm left with silent prayers
I looked to the heavens above
Tell me can you hear me?

Oh I ask myself
Am I the one to blame?
Oh I guess I should
Have seen the signs, should read between the lines
My fears came true
I'm living without you

(Chorus)

As the days go by
I still mourne inside
Do you hear my cries
Living without you
As the days go by
I still wonder why
Leaving us behind
Living without you

On a February day
They took your soul away
There was silence all around
I couldn't believe it
I've got your vision in my head
See you sleeping in your bed
And this home has lost it's joy
You still here with me

Now I'm standing here
Am I the one to blame?
My fears came true
I'm living without you

(Chorus)
As the days go by
I still mourne inside
Do you hear my cries
Living without you
As the days go by
I still wonder why
Leaving us behind
Living without you

Living without you
Still wonder why
Living without you

There is no compesation
There is no substitude
You lightened up darkest days
Your spirit will see me through

(Chorus)
(Chorus)

Living without you
Still wonder why
Living without you

This song reminds me of Anastasia.

Seventeen Ain't So Sweet. - The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Well she never was the best
Yeah at following the trends
Stayed one step above the rest
And even though it seemed

Like the world was crashing on her
Didn't let it hold her down
Didn't hold her back oh no

Don't worry you'll show them

[Chorus:]
There's a fire in your eyes
And I hope you'll let it burn
There's a scream in your voice
And I hope you will be heard
There's a fire in your eyes
And I hope you'll let it burn
Until you're heard, you're heard

Seventeen is just a test
Yeah and I would recommend
That you live with no regrets
And even if it seems

Like the world is crashing on you
You shouldn't let it hold you down
Shouldn't hold you back oh no, woah oh

Don't worry you'll show them

[Chorus]

Relax girl, turn down the lights
No one can see you shining
Relax girl, it'll be alright
No one can stop you if you try

Point of rhythm is to follow it in time
To listen to the beating in your mind
Remember if you seek then you shall find
Woah oh

[Chorus x2]
...until you're heard...

That is a nice song Holly very interesting.
Here are some Hawaiian songs Maui. Hawaiian and English.

Tonight Kaiulani

Tonight Kaiulani
Island magic smiles on you
One little kiss here by the sea
Means Aloha I love you

I hear the tradewinds saying
Your sweet name to me
While coco palms are swaying
Like the rhythms of the sea

The stars up high in paradise
Shine their love on you tonight
While the man in the moon just sighs
Glad that he can spread moonlight

I hear the tradewinds saying
Your sweet name to me
While coco palms are swaying
Like the rhythms of the sea

Sweet will be my dreams Kaiulani
As tuberoses kissed by dew
One more goodnight kiss Kaiulani
Kaiulani, Aloha I love you

So soft, so sweet, by sighing breezes
That as it touches my whole being
It warms me in my heart

Chorus:
We, fair one, together, shall enjoy such moments
While murmuring wind sweeps over my fatherland

There is a breath so soft and balmy
Brought by sweet zephyrs, Lîlîlehua
And while wafted to my bosom
It warms me with love

There is a fragrance that saturates
A cool, soft breeze
Brought it to cling to me
Warming me with feelings

There is a fragrance wafted here
The sweet call of birds
Brought it to find me
Being warmed by your voice

The song Land of Confusion by Genesis (later performed by Disturbed) reminds me a lot of Russia during the revolution.  More of the world right now.

Here are the lyrics.

"Land Of Confusion"

I must have dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
They're moving into the street

Now, did you read the news today?
They say the danger has gone away
But I can see the fire's still alight
They're burning into the night

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in

Oh, superman, where are you now?
When everything's gone wrong somehow?
The men of steel, these men of power
Are losing control by the hour

This is the time, this is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go around
Tell me why this is a land of confusion

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in

I remember long ago
When the sun was shining
And all the stars were bright all through the night
In the wake of this madness, as I held you tight
So long ago

I won't be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know we'll never keep

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go round
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

Now, this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for

This is the world we live in
And these are the names we're given
Stand up and let's start showing
Just where our lives are going to

It was in the trailer to Everything is Illuminated.  Its lyrics are truly eerie in the sense of NAOTMAA...and its ending still gets me every time.  :'(

5 for fighting-100 years.

The music really gets to me, and the singers voice is totally sweet and goes really well with the song. It gives me a sense of OTMAA and their life from start to finish.  :)

Here are the lyrics:

I'm 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

I'm 22 for a moment
She feels better than ever
And we're on fire
Making our way back from Mars

15… there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15…there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live…

I'm 33 for a moment
Still the man but you see I'm a they
A kid on the way
A family on my mind

I'm 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I'm heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life

15… there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose yourself
Within a morning star

15… I'm all right with you
15… there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live…

Half time goes by
Suddenly you’re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We're moving on...

I'm 99 for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

15… there's still time for you

22… I feel her too

33… you’re on your way

....Every Day's a new Day....

15… there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15… there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live....

This is a very sad song and the video is more so than the lyrics.
The music is what reminds me most of OTMA, not much the lyrics.

Concrete Angel - by Martina McBride.

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

chorus
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

[Repeat Chorus]

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

[Repeat Chorus]

have you ever heard this?

OK GO LYRICS

"A Good Idea At The Time"

True about my taste
True about my wealth
The thing about St Petersburg I was never there myself
So come on Yeah come on
Anastasia cried all night, but I couldn't save myself
So come on Yeah come on

that's just the first verse.

Also I found this:

We have a son, there is a little Romanov
People need tradition, need direction, they need us
A stranger said, Mathruiska, why are you afraid of
someone with my power here before you in your home?
The czaravich can never bleed if he is to survive
Take me in your confidence and I'll keep your son alive
One and one is true
He'll swear he never wanted to
He looked twice and said I can identify this man
And the czarina shook her head
Alexandra, you see he's just a charlaton?
Is he curing every woman with those hands he's laying on?
The people moan, they say your like a concubine
And he plays you like a balalaika in the summertime
He appoints the cabinet as the soldiers kiss your feet
We'll poison him, then shoot him
And we'll drown him in the Neva water
One and one is true
I swear I never wanted to
He looked twice and said I can Identify this man
And the czarina shook her head
I said one and one is true
The Bolshevik is rising too
He looked twice and said I can identify this man
And the czarina shook her head

if anyone knows where I can hear this song, please tell....it's called "the czarina shook her head"

Thanks for the new songs!

The Czarina song that you wrote of is by Rick Masters, though I have not been able to get a hold of it yet, and can't seem to find it on Amazon or LimeWire...but I'll keep checking!

the song "hear you me" by Jimmy eat world reminds me of NAOTMAA
here's the lyrics

There's no one in town I know
You gave us some place to go.
I never said thank you for that.
I thought I might get one more chance.
What would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that,
now I'll never have a chance.
May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
So what would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that,
now I'll never have a chance.
May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
May angels lead you in.
May angels lead you in.
And if you were with me tonight,
I'd sing to you just one more time.
A song for a heart so big,
god wouldn't let it live.
May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
May angels lead you in.

Yes i did as i've seen the video , but doesn't really make any difference to me  ;)

The girl who acts in the video clip reminds me of anastasia....don't know why it just does.

The lyrics and the ways it's sang reminds me of OTMA.

And the part at the end reminds me of the sadness of Anastasia's death.

loads of things really  ;)

only OST to "Anastasia" reminds me of Anastasia, Nicholas and others, who lived on the line of XIX and XX century.
and, by the way, the song that won on the Eurovision this year.))

Here is a song I made about OTMA'S LEGACY:

Four Angels in the heavens, calling upon us
peace and eternity,they speak
And love, they treasure
every night they sing, with the power of love
through our eyes, princess power
princess power
princess power
reigns for all eternity
you love and faithfulness, cherished our thoughts
How I loved you all, your irreplaceable never to come back
Oh speak to us dear angels
speak to us angels
speak to us angels
you are here only in heaven
Oh we still hear you, darlings, speak in the dwellings
where you know lie deep, with distinct personalities, and personal intrests
dearest ones rest in peace for eternity.

Here are the lyrics for Devotchka's song How This Will End: Reminds me a lot of NATOMAA:

Hold your grandmother's Bible to your breast.
Gonna put it to the test.
You want it to be blessed.
And in your heart,
You know it to be true,
You know what you gotta do.
They all depend on you.
And you already know.
Yeah, you already know how this will end.

There is no escape,
From the slave-catchers' songs.
For all of the loved ones gone.
Forever's not so long.
And in your soul,
They poked a million holes.
But you never lettem show.
C'mon it's time to go.

And
You
Already know.
Yeah, you already know
How this will end.

Now you've seen his face.
And you know that there's a place,
In the sun,
For all that you've done,
For you and your children.
No longer shall you need.
You always wanted to believe,
Just ask and you'll receive,
Beyond your wildest dreams.

And
You
Already know.
Yeah, you already know
How this will end.

You already know (You already know)
You already know (you already know)
You already love will end.

Here is another one!  Pink Floyd's Mother:  Just think of Alix and Aleksey.  ;)

Mother, do you think theyll drop the bomb?
Mother, do you think theyll like this song?
Mother, do you think theyll try to break my balls?
Ooooowaa mother, should I build a wall?

Mother, should I run for president?
Mother, should I trust the government?
Mother, will they put me in the firing line?
Ooooowaa is it just a waste of time?

Hush, my baby. baby, dont you cry.
Mommas gonna make all of your nightmares come true.
Mommas gonna put all of her fears into you.
Mommas gonna keep you right here under her wing.
She wont let you fly, but she might let you sing.
Mommas gonna keep baby cozy and warm.
Oooo babe.
Oooo babe.
Ooo babe, of course mommas gonna help build a wall.

Mother, do you think shes good enough,
For me?
Mother, do you think shes dangerous,
To me?
Mother will she tear your little boy apart?
Ooooowaa mother, will she break my heart?

Hush, my baby. baby, dont you cry.
Mommas gonna check out all your girlfriends for you.
Momma wont let anyone dirty get through.
Mommas gonna wait up until you get in.
Momma will always find out where youve been.
Mommas gonna keep baby healthy and clean.
Oooo babe.
Oooo babe.
Ooo babe, youll always be baby to me.

Mother, did it need to be so high?

This reminds me of Anastasia's "escape" and survival, I guess. The topic of Anna Anderson comes into mind, too.

Yes, Anastasia
I know what you want the magpies have come
If you know me so well then tell me which hand I use

Make them go
Make it go

Saw her there in a restaurant
Poppy don't go
I know your mother is a good one
But poppy don't go
I'll take you home
Show me the things I've been missin'
Show me the ways I forgot to be speaking
Show me the ways to get back to the garden
Show me the ways to get around the get around
Show me the ways to button up buttons
That have forgotten they're buttons
Well we can't have that
Forgetting that

Girls girls what have we done to ourselves
Driving on the vine
Over clothes lines
But officer I saw the sign
Thought I'd been through this in 1919
Counting the tears of ten thousand men
And gathered them all
But my feet are slipping
There's something we left on the windowsill
There's something we left yes

We'll see how brave you are
We'll see how fast you'll be running
We'll see how brave you are
Yes, Anastasia
And all your dollies have friends

Thought she deserved no less than she'd give
Well happy birthday
Her blood's on my hands
It's kind of a shame cause I did like that dress
It's funny the things that you find in the rain
The things that you find
In the mall and in the date mines
In the knots still in her hair
On the bus I'm on my way down
All the girls seem to be there

Come along now little darlin'
Come along now with me
Come along now little darlin'
We'll see how brave you are
-Tori Amos

That song is about Anna Anderson. Tori Amos claimed that her ghost told her to write that song. I really like it regardless of the Anna Anderson part.
Your song was beautiful Emily! OTMA would be so proud.  :)

"You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)"

Don't give up
It's just the weight of the world
When your heart's heavy
I...I will lift it for you

Don't give up
Because you want to be heard
If silence keeps you
I...I will break it for you

Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can hear you
Everybody wants to be loved
Don't give up
Because you are loved

Don't give up
It's just the hurt that you hide
When you're lost inside
I...I will be there to find you

Don't give up
Because you want to burn bright
If darkness blinds you
I...I will shine to guide you

Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can hear you
Everybody wants to be loved
Don't give up
Because you are loved

You are loved
Don't give up
It's just the weight of the world
Don't give up
Every one needs to be heard
You are loved

This song really reminds me of Anastasia a lot. It's one of my favorite songs.

Blackbird - The Beatles

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Hello I am new here ^_^

This song reminds me of mainly Nicky & Alexei...it reminds me of like their death..like Nicky saying this to Alexei...

Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel) - Billy Joel

Goodnight, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark and deep
Inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullabye
Then in your heart
There will always be a part of me

Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabyes go on and on...
They never die
That's how you
And I
Will be

such a beautiful song..I recommend you guys to listen when you get a chance.  :)

Angel of love
Mana
Whenever I listen to this song I remember a NAOTMAA

The one who you cut the wings my angel,
The one who you extracted the dreams today,
The one who you knelt down to humble
Leave me to recover, life,
leave me to give you all my love.
Angel, angel, angel I give you my love,
do not give up, do not be ruined love.
The one who tied your hands, tied the desire,
who killed your laugh, your God killed,
The one who bled your lips and your creed,
why you allowed it, angel of love.
Leave me to recover, life,
leave me to give you all my love.
Angel, angel, angel of love,
do not give up, do not be ruined love.
Angel, angel, angel of love,
opens your wings,
leaves your dreams to fly.
Angel of love,
but my love already do never be ruined.
Angel of love,
but my love already do never be ruined

pd:An excuse if my English is bad.
Beautiful song, welcome Xenia :)

Regards to all  :)

The one who bled your lips and your creed,
why you allowed it, angel of love.
Leave me to recover, life,
leave me to give you all my love.
Angel, angel, angel I give you my love,
do not give up, do not be ruined love.
Angel, angel, angel of love, opens your wings, leaves your dreams to fly.
Angel of love, but my love already do never be ruined.
Angel of love, but my love already do never be ruined

Tears In Heaven lyrics

Would you know my name

if I saw you in heaven ?

Would you feel the same

if I saw you in heaven ?

I must be strong and carry on.

'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven.

Would you hold my hand

If I saw you in heaven ?

I'll find my way through night and day.

'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven.

Time can bring you down

time can bend your knees.

Time can break your heart

have you begging please.

Begging please...

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure.

And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven.

Would you know my name

if I saw you in heaven ?

Would you feel the same

if I saw you in heaven ?

I must be strong and carry on.

'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

I Can Only Imagine lyrics

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me
I can only imagine

[Chorus:]
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine

[Chorus]

I can only imagine [x2]

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you

It is time to go :'(
Magician of Oz
If it is true that there is something more
I will wait for you
I need to rest
your love I will take
I go away towards a place
Where the time the breeze is an illusion is of color
the voice music,
and the sun is of cotton
I will cross the light
In eternity form
My voice will silence
My body will be yesterday
In drops of soul I am Sailing towards the end
you do not doubt that when watching
Towards your interior,
you will be able to find to me
When your time goes away
Is hour to march
Prepares your affluent trip
you are not scared and sees
You do not cry more by me
Always I am near you I will hope to
You There in the light where no, the pain does not exist

PS: an excuse if my english is not very good

The song "Dream a little dream of me" by the Mamas and the Papas reminds me of something Alix would write to Nicholas during the war.

Stars shining bright above you;
Night breezes seem to whisper love you?
Birds singing in the sycamore tree.
Dream a little dream of me.

Say nighty-night and kiss me;
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me.
While I'm alone, blue as can be,
Dream a little dream of me.

Stars fading but I linger on, dear---
Still craving your kiss.
I'm longing to linger till dawn, dear,
Just saying this...

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you---
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you.
But in your dreams, whatever they be,
Dream a little dream of me.

Stars fading but I linger on, dear---
Still craving your kiss.
I'm longing to linger till dawn, dear,
Just saying this...

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you---
Sweet dreams that leave all worries far behind you.
But in your dreams, whatever they be,
Dream a little dream of me.

Lyrics for Song: Who You'd Be Today

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
Wear the pain like a heavy coat
I feel you everywhere I go
I see your smile, I see your face
I hear you laughing in the rain
Still can't believe you're gone

Chorus:

It ain't fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
The death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I've been through
Just knowing no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder who you'd be today

Would you see the world?
Would you chase your dreams?
Settle down with a family?
I wonder, what would you name your babies?
Some days the sky's so blue
I feel like I can talk to you
And I know it might sound crazy

Chorus

Today, Today, Today
Today, Today, Today

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
The only thing that gives me hope
Is I know I'll see you again someday

Someday, Someday

NO SECRETS LYRICS

"I'll Remember You"

It has been so long since we have talked
I hope that things are still the same
hoping they will never change
cause what we had can't be replaced
don't let our memories fade away
keep me in your heart for always

You made me believe
that I can do almost anything
stood right by me
through the tears through everything

I'll remember you,
and baby that's forever true
you're the one that I'll always miss
never thought it would feel like this
I'll be there for you,
no matter what you're goin' through
in my heart you'll always be, forever baby
I'll remember you

I promise you I won't forget the times we shared, the tears we cried
You'll always be the sun in my sky
It may be fate that brings us back to meet again someday
Even though we go seprate ways

You made me believe
that I can do almost anything
You stood right by me
through the tears through everything

I'll remember yooooou,
and baby that's forever true
you're the one that I'll always miss
never thought it would feel like this
I'll be there for yooooou,
no matter what your goin' through
in my heart you'll always be, forever baby
I'll remember you

If the day should come when you need someone
(you know that i'll follow)
I will be there
Don't ever let there
be a doubt in your mind
'cause I'll remember you, you

I'll remember you,
and baby that's forever true
you're the one that I'll always miss
never thought it would feel like this
I'll be there for you,
no matter what your goin' through
in my heart you'll always be, forever baby
I'll remember you

Forever baby, I'll remember you

The song "Scarlet Tide" By Alison Krauss and Union Station. The line I have in bold reminds me of when Alexandra had to make the decision to stay with Alexei in Tobolsk, or leave with Nicky.
And then the whole widow and bride thing also reminds me of Alexandra and her Mother-in-law.

Well I recall his parting words
Must I accept his fate
Or take myself far from this place

I thought I heard a black bell toll
A little bird did sing
Man has no choice
When he wants every thing

We'll rise above the scarlet tide
That trickles down through the mountain
And separates the widow from the bride

Man goes beyond his own decision
Gets caught up in the mechanism
Of swindlers who act like kings
And brokers who break everything
The dark of night was swiftly fading
Close to the dawn of day
Why would I want him just to lose him again

We'll rise above the scarlet tide
That trickles down through the mountain
And separates the widow from the bride

The other day at work I heard the song "Fields of Gold" by Sting (I hadn't heard it in so long that I'd almost forgotten it existed) and I thought about the Romanovs for the rest of the day:

Fields of Gold by Sting

You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold

So she took her love for to gaze awhile
Among the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
And you can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold

I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We will walk in fields of gold
We'll walk in fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
As you lie in fields of gold

You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold

I agree that does remind you of the Romanovs, and actually of many tragic things. I have always loved that song, altough I actually have never heard the Sting Version. I know it through the Eva Cassidy version. I always thought it fitted that Eva Cassidy should sing that, given her tragic death, but thanks for applying it to the Romanovs. It is a beautiful song. For any body who is a figure skating fan ( albeit awhile ago) in 2000-2002 or about Michelle Kwan skated to this song. That's how I first heard it and really came to like it. Anyway, it is such a beautiful song, such a nostalgic song.

This is an opera song I have titled Dido's Lament by Henry Purcell.  : )

When I am laid, am laid in earth, may my wrongs create
No trouble, no trouble in, in thy breast.
When I am laid, am laid in earth, may my wrongs create
No trouble, no trouble in, in thy breast.
Remember me, remember me, but ah!
Forget my fate.
Remember me, but ah!
Forget my fate.
Remember me, remember me, but ah!
Forget my fate.
Remember me, but ah!
Forget my fate.

Hi All

I brought a record called 'The Day Anastasia Romanoff Died' (Paul Ryan, 1976) off ebay for no better reason than the title of the song. I tried to find out about it, but I could find nothing, there were only about five mentions of it spread over the whole of Google!

Anyway, I played it today and had it converted to MP3, I'm listeneing to it now and it's very good, very dramatic. The lyrics are vaguely nonseical, as most song lyrics are, but I quite like them despite being clueless as to what they mean by Anastasia's 'magic'. I transcribed the lyrics, I thought they might be interesting to my fellow Romanovs buffs! The second verse is hard to hear, so I am not sure if I've got it done right.

I'd be very interested to see if anyone else has heard of this song, it seems to be something of an enigma!

Twelve ‘o’ clock they came to take you,
Came to wake you for your final dream.
Yellow ribbon, coat of satin,
Soaked in red, you play your final scene.
But they would not take your smile,
And they would not close your eyes.

Oh, sweet Anastasia Romanoff
There is nothing more to hear.

Anastasia! Sleep my child,
Oh you had a magic, to drive them wild.
Anastasia! Do not cry,
The lights went out the day you died,
And I always cried the day that Anastasia Romanoff died.

Twisting on an empty spiral
Emptying the twilight of your years.
Eyes that sparkle life, a thousand jewels,
A thousand fools that have no tears.
But they could not take your smile
And they would not close your eyes.

Sweet Anastasia Romanoff
There is nothing more to hear.

Anastasia! Sleep my child,
Oh you had a magic to drive them wild.
Anastasia! Do not cry,
The lights went out the day you died,
And I always cried the day that Anastasia Romanoff died.

[Instrumental]

Anastasia! Sleep my child,
Oh you had the magic to drive them wild.
Anastasia! Do not cry,
The lights went out the day you died
And I always cried the day that Anastasia Romanoff died.

I could probably email you the file if you want it, it would be quite big but I'd imagine it would fit in as an attatchment. If you would like me to send it to you, PM me with your email.

Thanks heaps Rachael! This is a really cool song. I heard some differences in the lyrics that you said you couldn't hear too well. Here's what I got:

Twelve o’clock they came to take you,
Came to wake you for your final dream.
Yellow ribbon, coat of satin,
Soaked in red, you play your final scene.
But they would not take your smile,
And they would not close your eyes.

Oh, sweet Anastasia Romanoff
There is nothing more to fear.

Anastasia! Sleep my child,
Oh you had a magic, to drive them wild.
Anastasia! Do not cry,
The lights went out the day you died,
And I always cried the day that Anastasia Romanoff died.

Twisting on an empty spiral
Ending in the twilight of your years.
Eyes that sparkle life, a thousand jewels,
A thousand fools that have no tears.
But they could not take your smile
And they would not close your eyes.

Sweet Anastasia Romanoff
There is nothing more to fear.

Anastasia! Sleep my child,
Oh you had a magic to drive them wild.
Anastasia! Do not cry,
The lights went out the day you died,
And I always cried the day that Anastasia Romanoff died.

i all ways thought that the 'Remember' Song by Josh Groban for the movie Troy
reminds me of the Romanovs.. or for anybody i hold dear to my heart.

"Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me, in your memory

Remember, when your dreams have ended
Time can be transcended
Just remember me

I am the one star that keeps burning, so brightly,
It is the last light, to fade into the rising sun

I'm with you
Whenever you tell, my story
For I am all I've done

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me, in your memory
Remember me

I am the one voice in the cold wind, that whispers
And if you listen, you'll hear me call across the sky

As long as I still can reach out, and touch you
Then I will never die

Remember, I'll never leave you
If you will only
Remember me

Remember me...

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me
In your memory

Remember, when your dreams have ended
Time can be transcended
I live forever
Remember me

Remember me
Remember... me..."

"Bless the Child" by Nightwish. Could really apply to any of the Romanovs, but it makes me think of both Nicholas and Alexandra in particular:

I was born amidst the purple waterfalls.
I was weak, yet not unblessed.
Dead to the world. Alive for the journey.
One night I dreamt a white rose withering,
a newborn drowning a lifetime loneliness.
I dreamt all my future. Relived my past.
I witnessed the beauty of the beast"

Where have all the feelings gone?
Why has all the laughter ceased?

Why am I loved only when I'm gone?
Gone back in time to bless the child
Think of me long enough to make a memory
Come bless the child one more time

How can I ever feel again?
Given the chance would I return?

I've never felt so alone in my life
As I drank from a cup which was counting my time
There's a poison drop in this cup of Man
To drink it is to follow the left hand path

"Where have all the feelings gone?
Why is the deadliest sin - to love as I loved you?
Now unblessed, homesick in time,
soon to be freed from care, from human pain.
My tale is the most bitter truth:
Time pays us but with earth & dust, and a dark, silent grave.
Remember, my child: Without innocence the cross is only iron,
hope is only an illusion & Ocean Soul's nothing but a name...

The Child bless thee & keep thee forever"

Shadow of Love
By,Celine Dion

(This song made me think about the girls in captivity.)

I live my life like a runaway
I hide my dreams in a special place
I'm waiting here for my prince to come
To save me from the darkness

I count the nights
I count the days,the ways
Don't wanna fight it'd be in vain
So in vain

I can run but I can't hide
It's because
I'm livin' in the shadow of love
To me you are the only one
That I dream of
'Cause I'm livin' in the shadow of love

Your love surrounds me it's
Everywhere
It is my shelter,it is my air
A moon eclipsing a burning sun
Making shade just for me

For you I'd wait forever babee
And a day
To be there if your love
Should come
My way

I can run but I can't hide
It's because
I'm livin' in the shadow of love
To me you are the only one
That I dream of
'Cause I'm livin' in the shadow of love

Too many nights too many days
I've hidden from the sun
And though I've tried to breakaway
Your hold on me's just too strong
I'm livin' in the shadow of love

I can run but I can't hide
It's because
I'm livin' in the shadow of love
To me you are the only one
That I dream of
'Cause I'm livin' in the shadow of love

To me you are the only one
I dream of
'Cause I'm livin' in the shadow of love

The shadow of love
The shadow of love

I can run but I can't hide
It's because
I'm livin' in the shadow of love
To me you are the only one
That I dream of
'Cause I'm livin' in the shadow of love

My Love
By,Celine Dion.

(made my think of Nicholas and Alexandra.)

My love we have seen it all
The endless confession
The rise & fall

As fragile as a child
But lately I'm sorry
I can't hold a smile

But I stand tall to get by
No matter how hard
I try to hide
How did you know I'd take the time for you?
Did you know that I could see you through?
How did you know that I would play the part?
I must have made it clear right from the start

My love can you give me strength?
Some how I forgot how to ease my pain
I know I'm right where I belong
But Somethin for nothin never proved me wrong

But I stand tall to get by
No matter how hard
I try to hide
How did you know I'd take the time for you?
Did you know that I could see you through?
How did you know that I would play the part?
I must have made it clear right from the start

See I would share my whole life with you
Would you do the same for me?
I would give all I am to you
Would you do the same for me?

Yes I'll stand tall to get by
No matter how hard I try to hide
You could you see?
I could break
Did you notice all my mistakes?
There were times that I felt you read my mind
How did you know I'd take the time for you?
And did you know that I could see you through?
Did you know that I would play that part?
I know I made it clear right from the start....

For nicholas and Alexandra
So Close - John McLaughin

You’re in my arms
And all the world is calm
The music playing on for only two
So close together
And when I’m with you
So close to feeling alive

A life goes by
Romantic dreams will stop
So I bid mine goodbye and never knew
So close was waiting, waiting here with you
And now forever I know
All that I wanted to hold you
[So Close lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]

So close

So close to reaching that famous happy end
Almost believing this was not pretend
And now you’re beside me and look how far we’ve come
So far we are so close

How could I face the faceless days
If I should lose you now?
We’re so close
To reaching that famous happy end
And almost believing this was not pretend
Let’s go on dreaming for we know we are
So close
So close
And still so far

Another song:

Somewhere
Within Temptation

Lost in the darkness, hoping for a sign.
Instead there is only silence,
can't you hear my screams?
Never stop hoping,
Need to know where you are,
but one thing is for sure,
you're always in my heart.

Chorus:
I'll find you somewhere.
I'll keep on trying until my dying day.
I just need to know whatever has happened,
the truth will free my soul.

Lost in the darkness, try to find your way home.
I want to embrace you and never let you go.
Almost hope you're in heaven so no one can hurt your soul.
Living in agony cause I just do not know
where you are.

Wherever you are, I won't stop searching.
Whatever it takes, I need to know.

It is a pretty but sad song, to me it remembers much the Romanov
Greetings to all :)

Thi song is by Within temptation. I don´t really like it as a song, but the lyrics are to me almost perfect description of the Ipatiev night...

The shadows of the night,
are unleashed ageinn.
Where their greed begins
the end is near.
A morbid hunger for blood,
lies in their cold black eyes
They've come to take ouur lifes away.

One by one they died.
A massacre that took all night
They had no chance, it was no fight
You can't kil what has been killed before,
They died...

With shadows on its tale.
He steppedThrough the portal,
locked the door and ate the key.
With his life they took their way to freedom,
and be became the final keeper of the key.

It's amazing how many Within Temptation songs could apply. "Memories" definitely reminds me of them, too.

"A New Day" by Celine Dion reminds me of Alexandra and Alexei:

I was waiting for so long
For a miracle to come
Everyone told me to be strong
Hold on and don't shed a tear

Through the darkness and good times
I knew I'd make it through
And the world thought I had it all
But I was waiting for you

Hush now

I see a light in the sky
Oh, it's almost blinding me
I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new sun

A new day has... come

Where it was dark now there's light
Where there was pain now there's joy
Where there was weakness, I found my strength
All in the eyes of a boy

Hush now

I see a light in the sky
Oh, it's almost blinding me
I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new sun

A new day has...

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new sun

A new day has... come

Ohhh, a light

Hush now

I see a light in your eyes
All in the eyes of the boy

I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love

I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love

Hush now

Hush now

It's very weird what will remind you of them. Two of mine are "Buddy Holly" by Weezer (dissing my girl, love her anyway, N and A) and "Angels of the Silences" by Counting Crows reminds me of when Nicky was away and Alix was alone just before the gov't fell.

Buddy Holly

What's with these homies dissin' my girl
Why do they gotta front
What did we ever do to these guys
That made them so violent?

CHORUS: Woo-hoo, but you know I'm yours
Woo-hoo, and I know you're mine
Woo-hoo, and that's for all time

I don't care what they say about us anyway
I don't care 'bout that...

Angels of the Silences

Well I guess you left me with some feathers in my hand
Did it make it any easier to leave me where I stand?
I guess there might not be too many who would stand beside you now
Whered you come from? where am I going?
Whyd you leave me till Im only good for...
Waiting for you
All my sins...
I said that I would pay for them if I could come back to you
All my innocence is wasted on the dead and dreaming

Every night these silhouettes appear above my head
Little angels of the silences that climb into my bed and whisper
Every time I fall asleep, every time I dream
did you come? would you lie?
Whyd you leave us till were only good for...
Waiting for you
All my sins...
I said that I would pay for them if I could come back to you
All my innocence is wasted on the dead and dreaming

I dream of michelangelo when Im lying in my bed
Little angels hang above my head and read me like an open book
Suck my blood break my nerve offer me their arms
Well, I will not be an enemy of anything
Ill only stand here

Waiting for you
All my sins...
I said that I would pay for them if I could come back to you
All my innocence is wasted on the dead and dreaming

I'm gone, take me away I'm gone, I leave today I'm gone, take me away I'm gone I'm gone I'm gone I'm gone

Im gone

Saints and Angels-by Sara Evans.

We're only human baby
we walk on broken ground
We lose our way, we come unwound

We're turnin' circles baby
We're never satisfied
We fall from grace, forget we can't fly
But through all of the tears that we cry
We'll survive

Cause when we're torn apart
Shattered and scarred
Love has the grace to save us
We're just two tarnished hearts,
But in each other's arms
We become saints and angels

I love your imperfections
I love your everything
Your broken heart, your broken wings
I love you when you hold me
And when you turn away,
I love you still, and i'm not afraid
Cause I know you feel the same way
And you'll stay

Cause when we're torn apart
Shattered and scarred
Love has the grace to save us
We're just two tarnished hearts,
But in each other's arms
We become saints and angels

These feet of clay (feet of clay)
They will not stray

Cause when we're torn apart
Shattered and scarred
Love has the grace to save us
We're just two tarnished hearts,
But in each other's arms
We become saints and angels

(saints and angels...saints and angels...)

Viva La Vida - Coldplay

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Who Needs Pictures - Brad Paisely
I love to think of it as Nicholas remembering Alix in the moments before they died.

There's an old Kodak camera in my dresser drawer
I ran across it just this afternoon
And I realized that I don't ever use it anymore
In fact last time I did I think it was with you

When we were down in (Livadia)
We had the whole beach to ourselves
And it's crazy now to think
That it's all there on that film
And I could take it down
To be developed, but what for
I can still see everything just fine
And who needs pictures with a memory like mine

Standin' there I couldn't help but think about
Everything that might be on that roll
I think it even has another trip we took
I guess that must've been at least three years ago

When we were down in (Peterhof)
And there wasn't much to do
So we drove into (St. Petersburg) every afternoon
And I swear that you would think
That it was only yesterday
'Cause I can still see everything just fine
Who needs pictures with a memory like mine

Somewhere in my closet
There's a cardboard box just sittin' on a shelf
It's full of faded memories
And it's been there ever since the night you left

Oh, just forgotten photographs
To remind me of the past
Oh, but I can still see everything just fine
Who needs pictures with a memory like mine
Yeah, who needs pictures with a memory like mine

I love this song.

I love Coldplay. It amazes me that a band with such awesome music and meaningful lyrics can even get airplay on popular radio in this era of Pussycat Dolls and gangsta rap crud.

Another of their songs, "Fix You," always reminded me of Nicholas and Alexandra, too. As in, the scene in the movie where he comes home and collapses in front of her could totally be set to that song:

When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse.

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
"Just what your worth"

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream, down on your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face and I...

Tears stream, down on your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face and I...

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.

I agree. I love Coldplay too. (I get to see them in July. Yay.) They have a lot of songs that remind me of them.

Beautiful World - Coldplay
Bones are sinking like stones
All that we fall for
Homes places we've grown
All of us are done for

And we live in a beautiful world
We live in a beautiful world

Bones sinking like stones
All that we've fall for
homes places we've grown
All of us are done for

And we live in a beautiful world
We live in a beautiful world

Oh all that I know is nothing to run from
Cause yeah everybody here has got somebody to lean on

The Call - Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian Sound Track

--

It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

And then that word grew louder and louder
'Til it was a battle cry

I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye

Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never
Been this way before

All you can do is try to know
Who your friends are
As you head off to the war

Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light

You'll come back
When it's over
No need to say good bye

You'll come back
When it's over
No need to say good bye

Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and now one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
'Til they're before your eyes

You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say good bye

You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say good bye

Hi everybody!!  :)  Some of my favorite songs. XD

Remembering You by Steven Curtis Chapman from Narnia Soundtrack, reminds me NAOTMAA

"I found You in the most unlikely way
But really it was You who found me
And I found myself in the gifts that You gave
You gave me so much and I

I wish You could stay
but I'll, I'll wait for the day

And I watch as the cold winter melts into spring
And I'll be remembering You
Oh and I'll smell the flowers and hear the birds sing
and I'll be remembering You, I'll be remembering You

From the first moment when I heard Your name
Something in my heart came alive
You showed me love and no words could explain
A love with the power to
Open the door
To a world I was made for

And I watch as the cold winter melts into spring
And I'll be remembering You
Oh and I'll smell the flowers and hear the birds sing
and I'll be remembering

The dark night, the hard fight
The long climb up the hill knowing the cost
The brave death, the last breathe
The silence whispering all hope was lost
The thunder, the wonder
A power that brings the dead back to life

I wish You could stay
But I'll wait for the day
And though You've gone away
You come back and

I watch as the cold winter melts into spring
And I'll be remembering You
Oh and I'll smell the flowers and hear the birds sing
I'll be remembering You

And I'll watch as the sun fills a sky that was dark
I'll be remembering You
And I'll think of the way that You fill up my heart
I'll be remembering You

I'll be remembering You
I'll be remembering You

I'll be remembering You"

Wunderkind by Alanis Morissette from Narnia soundtrack too, remind me Anastasia  :D

"Oh perilous place
Walk backwards toward you
Blink disbelieving eyes chilled to the bone
Most visibly brave
No apprehended bloom
First to take this foot to virgin snow

I am a magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
I am a wunderkind oh
I live the envelope pushed far enough to believe this
I am a princess on the way to my throne
destined to serve
destined to roam

Oh ominous place
Spellbound and un-childproofed
My least favorite chill to bear alone

compatriots in place
they’d cringe if I told you
our best back pocket secret: our bond full blown

I am a magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
I am a wunderkind oh
I am a pioneer naïve enough to believe this
I am a princess on the way to my throne
destined to seek
destined to know

most beautiful place
Reborn and blown off roof
My view: about face weather, great will be done

I am a magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
I am a wunderkind oh
I am a groundbreaker naïve enough to believe this
I am a princess on the way to my throne

I am a magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
I am a wunderkind oh
I am a joan of arc and smart enough to believe this
I am a princess on the way to my throne
destined to reign, destined to roam
destined to reign….destined to roam…"

and Memories by Within Temptations remind me NAOTMAA too. Is so sad, and remind me exactly their dead!  :(

He's my Son- Mark Schultz It reminds me alot of Alix and Alexei.

I'm down on my knees again tonight
I'm hoping this prayer will turn out right
See there is a boy that needs Your help
I've done all that I can do myself
His mother is tired
I'm sure You can understand
Each night as he sleeps
She goes in to hold his hand
And she tries not to cry
As the tears fill her eyes

CHORUS:
Can You hear me?
Am I getting through tonight?
Can You see him?
Can You make him feel all right?
If You can hear me
Let me take his place somehow
See, he's not just anyone
He's my son

Sometimes late at night I watch him sleep
I dream of the boy he'd like to be
I try to be strong and see him through
But God who he needs right now is You
Let him grow old
Live life without this fear
What would I be
Living without him here
He's so tired and he's scared
Let him know that You're there

CHORUS

Can You hear me?
Can You see him?
Please don't leave him
He's my son

I'm for You- tobyMac Reminds me of Nick and Alix

Tell me where its hurting
Are you burning?
Running just to catch your breath
And going nowhere
It's getting old when you feel like you got nothing left
Well it ain't over 'til it's over
I told you since the day we met
So let me be the voice through all the noise
Whatever I gotta be
I'll be for you

Whatever you need from me
To see you through
Everyone of us has stumbled
Everybody's humbled
We hit the ground and our lives crumble

Whatever I gotta be
I'll be for you
I'm for you
If you never knew
If you never knew
I'm for you
You know it's true

I know the feeling
I know it's real when the drama's all in your face
You see a mountain
I hear a promise - it's never more than we can take
Well it ain't over, 'til it's over
We can learn from our mistakes
So let me be the voice through all the noise

Everyone of us will fall
Have our backs against the wall
And everyone shares a need to be loved

You've always been for me
So I will be for you
That's just what it means to love

Whatever I gotta be
I'll be for you
I'm for you
If you never knew
If you never knew
I'm for you
You know it's true

Whatever I gotta be
I'll be for you
I'm for you
If you never knew
If you never knew
I'm for you
You know it's true

Everytime you fall, I'll be for you,
If you back's against the wall, I'll be for you,
Cause you've always been for me, I'll be for you,
I'll be for you, I'm for you.
If you never knew,
If you never knew,
I'm for you.

I'm for you, like your for me, like I'm for you,
I'm for you, like your for me, like your for me, like I'm for you,
I'm for you like your for me, like I'm for you,
I'm for you like your for me, like your for me, like I'm for you,
I'm for you like your for me, like your for me, like I'm for you,

I'm for you

let me rephrase the first bit. Nicholas is the one who would be singing, so it reminds me of him, Alix, and Alexei.

This song remembers much Alexandra and Alexei to me

Baby mine

Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine
Little one when you play
Don't you mind what you say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine
If they knew sweet little you
They'd end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they'd give just for
The right to hold you
From your head to your toes
You're not much, goodness knows
But you're so precious to me
Cute as can be, baby of mine

This song really reminds me of them. It's as if they could be singing it themselves. I always imagine NAOTMAA singing the verses for some reason.

Violet Hill - Coldplay

Was a long and dark December
From the rooftops I remember      -Nicholas.
There was snow
White snow

Clearly I remember
From the windows they were watching   -Alexandra.
While we froze down below

When the future's architectured
By a carnival of idiots on show  -Olga Nicholaievna.
You'd better lie low

If you love me
Won't you let me know?

Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals  -Tatiana Nicholaievna.
And the fog
Became God

Priests clutched onto bibles
And went out to fit their rifles -Maria Nicholaievna.
And the cross was held aloft

Bury me in honor
When I'm dead and hit the ground -Anastasia Nicholaievna.
A love back home unfolds

If you love me
Won't you let me know?

I don't want to be a soldier
With the captain of some sinking ship -Alexei Nicholaievich.
With snow, far below

So if you love me
Why'd you let me go?

I took my love down to violet hill
There we sat in snow
All that time she was silent still

So if you love me
Won't you let me know?

If you love me,
Won't you let me know?

There's a YouTube Video to that song, which I absolutely love.

Songs that always make me think of OTMAA are God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by Manheim Steemroller (both versions), Moondance by Nightwish, and If Only by Fiction Plane.  "If Only" is from the Holes soundtrack and the lyrics are right from the book, but I always am reminded of NAOTMAA.  Search it on YouTube if you want to hear the song.  I wish someone would make a NAOTMAA video to it, but as of now, no luck.

Lost - Michael Buble

I can't believe it's over
I watched the whole thing fall
And I never saw the right man was on the wall
If I don't land
Days were slipping past
That the good things never last
That you were crying

Summer turned to winter
And the snow it turned to rain
And the rain turned into tears upon your face
I hardly recognized the girl you are today
And god I hope it's not too late
It's not too late
'Cause you are not alone
I'm always there with you
And we'll get lost together
Till the light comes pouring through
'Cause when you feel like you're done
And the darkness has won
Babe, you're not lost
When your worlds crashing down
And you can't bear to fall
I said, babe, you're not lost

Life can show no mercy
It can tear your soul apart
It can make you feel like you've gone crazy
But you're not
Things have seem to changed
There's one thing that's still the same
In my heart you have remained
And we can fly fly fly away

'Cause you are not alone
And I am there with you
And we'll get lost together
Till the light comes pouring through
'Cause when you feel like you're done
And the darkness has won
Babe, you're not lost
When the worlds crashing down
And you can not bear to crawl
I said, baby, you're not lost
I said, baby, you're not lost
I said, baby, you're not lost
I said, baby, you're not lost

This song reminds me of Nicholas and Alexandra, mainly of Nicholas overthinking their past life while they're imprisoned in the Ipatiev-house, it just makes me think of them, the things they had to face are things that made them stronger as a couple and showed that they would stand by each other always, no matter what price they had to pay for loving each other. So this works for them, i think.

This song reminds me of Anastasia.

The Calendar Girl.

If I am lost for a day try to find me.
But if I don't come back, then I won't look behind me.
And all of the things that I thought were so easy,
Just got harder and harder each day.

December is darkest.
In June there's the light.
But this empty bedroom won't make anything right.

While out on the landing a friend I forgot to send home,
Who waits up for me all through the night.

Calendar girl who's in love with the world, stay alive.
Calendar girl who's in love with the world, stay alive.

I dreamed I was dying as I so often do.
And when I awoke, I was sure it was true.
I ran to the window, threw my head to the sky.
And said, "Whoever is up there, please don't let me die."
But I can't live forever.
I can't always be.
One day I'll be sand on a beach by the sea.
The pages keep turning.
I'll mark off each day with a cross.
And I'll laugh about all that we've lost.

Calendar girl who is lost to the world, stay alive.
Calendar girl who is lost to the world, stay alive.

January, February, March, April, May, I'm alive.
June, July, August, September, October, I'm alive.
December and all through the winter I'm alive, I'm alive.

There is a song of The Strokes  which few parts reminds me of Olga & Tatiana.
Their song is called What ever happened ?

I want to be forgotten,
and I don't want to be reminded.
You say "please don't make this harder."        --->     Olga
No, I won't yet.

It makes me think of her  having hard times when she was a nurse and was upset by the stress this work gave her.

And this one sentence reminds me of Tatiana

'She wanna be admired'

Tatiana liked being the center of all the public attention. That's why that makes me think of her.

So I started a whole new thread for this topic like any good dumbbell! *rolls eyes* Here was my list of befitting music...I intend to add more--I just don't have time to add it to this one just now! :)

"Russian Christmas by Alfred Reed. It was my school band's tradition to play this every year at Christmas. It is a 15-minute piece, very beautiful, very passionate that epitomizes old Russia, as well as Russian Orthodoxy. It's just such a gorgeous piece. Professional orchestral versions should be available to hear--as far as I know, it's pretty popular.

Russian Easter by Nikolai Rismky-Korsakov. This one is much like Russian Christmas, but obviously focuses around Easter. It is also very passionate, very Old Russia and Russian Orthodoxy, and like Russian Christmas, it makes use of the chimes, symbolizing all the bells in the church towers. Rimsky-Korsakov is a brilliant composer, of course. I highly recommend this one, as well! Smiley

More obscurely:

Now these ones will seem out of the blue versus the other two I post, but I will explain why I chose them after each.

Tania, Enemy at the Gates soundtrack, by James Horner. The movie "Enemy at the Gates" obviously took place in Russia, but it revolved around the Russian side of WWII, not WWI or anything involved with the Imperial Family. What I love most about this certain track is the evident emotion in the music. I recently made a reply to the "Kitchen Boy" thread in the Books segment of the forum, because I had read it again for the fifth time. Well, I read it while listening to this track--only this track. That is now what the music reminds me of. It has a truly Russian sound to it. But while it is supposed to revolve around Russia in WWII, much of it really does epitomize Russia under autocracy. There is a part where the music becomes "grandiose" and elegant, with the church bells ringing in the background. And then, toward the end of the music...Well, I'll leave that for you to hear. It breaks my heart every time I hear it, it's so beautiful! Wink James Horner truly is an amazing composer (in my eyes), which is why my next selection is also by him.

Casper, by James Horner. There are silly parts of this soundtrack which are obviously the way they are because they are from the movie, "Casper", but the ones I am referring to are Tracks 6 (The Lighthouse), Track 8 (Fond Memories), Track 10 (Casper's Lullaby), and Track 12 (One Last Wish). I think these remind me of the Imperial Family because my sister used them in a movie she made of the Romanovs, for a school project. I can't really explain them in words. They are all hauntingly beautiful, and as I said with "Tanya" from "Enemy at the Gates", there is so much emotion in the music, that it really does befit the Royal Family. Listen to them! I think you'll agree! Smiley (If not, I'll buy you a pint) Wink

Anyway, I have others, but I think this list is good enough for now!"

There are some good ones you mentioned, Marishka. I also have a lot of classical pieces that remind me of them

The Last Spring (Våren) - Edvard Grieg.  - My favorite ever. Sad and pretty. Reminds me of their time in captivity.
Ase's Death - Edvard Grieg. - Also good. It's very depressing and reminds me of their death.
Pavane of a Dead Princess - Maurice Ravel.
Pavane - Fauré.
In Paradisium - Fauré. - Very pretty and reminds me of the children.
Russian Waltz - Shostakovich.
Liubov' Sviataya. (Sacred Love.)

One of the classical song who reminds me the Imperial Family is Nearer my god to thee, which is played in the Titanic, when the ship was sinking.

I wish I could remember what that song sounds like right now...

Here's another. It reminds me of them:

Grace Master.

I'm on my knees.
Only memories
are left for me to hold.
Don't know how,
but I'll get by.
Slowly pull myself together.

I'll get through this.

There's no escape.
So keep me safe.
This feels so unreal.

Nothing comes easily.
Fill this empty space.
Nothing is like it seems.
Turn my grief to grace.

I feel the cold.
Lonliness unfold
like from another world.
Come what may,
I won't fade away
but I know I might change.

Nothing comes easily.
Fill this empty space.
Nothing is like it was.
Turn my grief to grace.

Nothing comes easily.
Where do I begin?
Nothing can bring me peace.
I've lost everything.
I just wanna feel your embrace.

I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.

Another song:

Memories
Within Temptation

In this world you tried
not leaving me alone behind.
There's no other way.
I prayed to the gods let him stay.
The memories ease the pain inside,
now I know why.

Chorus:
All of my memories keep you near.
In silent moments imagine you here.
All of my memories keep you near.
Your silent whispers, silent tears.

Made me promise I'd try
to find my way back in this life.
I hope there is a way
to give me a sign you're ok.

Reminds me again it's worth it all
so I can go on.

Together in all these memories
I see your smile.
All the memories I hold dear.
Darling, you know I love you
till the end of time.
All of my memories

I was listening to Coldplay's Viva La Vida, and the song 42 reminded me a lot about not so much the Romanovs, but their memory. It made me think of the Dowager Empress tacked up in Hvidore in Copenhagen refusing to believe  Nicholas, Alexandra and her grandchildren were really dead. Also this reminds me of their memory and the gilded world they lived in, now lost to us in the modern age:

Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living my head
And since I fell for that spell
I am living there as well
Oh...

Time is so short and I'm sure
There must be something more

Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living my head oh…
And since I fell for that spell
I am living there as well oh…

Time is so short and I'm sure
There must be something more

You thought you might be a ghost
You thought you might be a ghost
You didn't get to heaven but you made it close
You didn't get to heaven but you made it close

You thought you might be a ghost
You thought you might be a ghost
You didn't get to heaven but you made it close
You didn't get to heaven but you oh oh
Oh oh…

Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living my head
Oh...

The song "I Believe in Love" by BarlowGirl reminds me of the IF and Ella during the revolution and their last days.

How long will my prayers seem unanswered?
Is there still faith in me to reach the end?
I'm feeling doubt I'm losing faith
But giving up would cost me everything
So I'll stand in the pain and silence
And I'll speak to the dark night

I believe in the sun even when it's not shining
I believe in love even when I don't feel it
And I believe in God even when He is silent
And I, I believe

Though I can't see my stories ending
That doesn't mean the dark night has no end
It's only here that I find faith
And learn to trust the one who writes my days
So I'll stand in the pain and silence
And I'll speak to the dark night

I believe in the sun even when it's not shining
I believe in love even when I don't feel it
And I believe in God even when He is silent
And I, I believe
No dark can consume Light
No death greater than this life
We are not forgotten
Hope is found when we say
Even when He is silent

I believe in the sun even when it's not shining
I believe in love even when I don't feel it
And I believe in God even when He is silent
And I, I believe.

Great choice, Marty_1994 , it is perfect and shows how they kept hoping for survival, aldo they realised it might and quite different.

I think 'Tears of an Angel' fitts Alix and her pain and suffering over the Illness of her only son, and how she tries to be there for him and fears his death always.

Cover my eyes
Cover my ears
Tell me these words are a lie
It cant be true
That I'm losing you
The sun cannot fall from the sky

Can you hear heaven cry
Tears of an angel
Tears of aaaaaaaa...
Tears of an angel
Tears of an angel.

Stop every clock
Stars are in shock
The river will flow to the sea
I wont let you fly
I wont say goodbye
I wont let you slip away from me

Can you hear heaven cry
Tears of an angel
Tears of aaaaaaaa...
Tears of an angel
Tears of an angel.

So hold on
Be strong
Everyday on we'll go
I'm here, dont you fear

Little one dont let go
(ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh)
Dont let go
(ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh)
Dont let go
(ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh)

Cover my eyes
Cover my ears
Tell me these words are a lie

Tears of the Saints by Leeland reminds me of NAOTMAA and Ella as saints.

There are many prodigal sons
On our city streets they run
Searching for shelter
There are homes broken down
People’s hopes have fallen to the ground
From failures

This is an emergency!

There are tears from the saints
For the lost and unsaved
We’re crying for them come back home
We’re crying for them come back home
And all your children will stretch out their hands
And pick up the crippled man
Father, we will lead them home
Father, we will lead them home

There are schools full of hatred
Even churches have forsaken
Love and mercy
May we see this generation
In its state of desperation
For Your glory

This is an emergency!

There are tears from the saints
For the lost and unsaved
We’re crying for them come back home
We’re crying for them come back home
And all your children will stretch out their hands
And pick up the crippled man
Father, we will lead them home
Father, we will lead them home

Sinner, reach out your hands!
Children, in Christ you stand!
Sinner, reach out your hands!
Children, in Christ you stand!

There are tears from the saints
For the lost and unsaved
We’re crying for them come back home
We’re crying for them come back home
And all Your children will stretch out their hands
And pick up the crippled man
Father, we will lead them home
Father, we will lead them home

Candles - Within Temptation

Take away,
These hands of darkness.
Reaching for my soul.
Now, the cold wind,
blows out my candles.
Feeling,
only fear,
without any hope.

A thousand dark moons.
A thousand winters long.
A million fallen stars,
the candle burns in the womb.

We tried not to forget,
they live through us.
Slowly they die away at every candle's end

A thousand dark moons.
A thousand winters long.
A million fallen stars,
the candle burns in the womb.

We tried not to forget,
they live through us.
Slowly they die away at every candle's end

This song reminds me a lot of Anastasia Nicholaievna. Not just the lyrics but the feeling of the song.

Vintage People - Eisley.

I have laughed up galaxies,
Hats and glasses,
But I've never met anyone quite like you,
I've met vintage people,
Who boast of shipwrecks and bravery,
But I've never met someone quite like you.

You can take me away from here.

Do you remember, how it was when we were fascinators,
sneaking glances,
Do you remember how it was all night while I sing my song,
'Til our songs were done.

All the people gathered to watch you smile,
And take photographs for rememberance,
Could they testify
with experience they would find that,
They've never met someone quite like you.

You can take me away from here.

Do you remember, how it was when we were fascinators,
Sneaking glances,
Do you remember how it was all night while I sing my song,
'Til our songs were done.

Oooh...ahhh...

Do you remember how it was when we were fascinators,
Sneaking glances,
Do your remember how it was all night while I sing my song,
'Til our songs were done

And it's just nice to be near you,
'Til the sun breaks our city street through

This one reminds me of IF reassuring each other in captivity.
 Me and Jesus- Stellar Kart
When there's no where else to turn
All your bridges have been burned
Feels like you've hit rock bottom..
Don't give up it's not the end
Open up your heart again
When you feel like no one understands
Where you are...

Someone loves you
Even when you don't think so
Don't you know
You got me and Jesus
By your side
Through the fight
You will never be alone
On your own
You got me and Jesus

After all that we've been through
By now you know I've doubted to
But everytime my head was in my hands
You said to me...

Someone loves you
Even when you don't think so
Don't you know
You got me and Jesus
By your side
Through the fight
You will never be alone
On your own
You got me and Jesus

Hold on to what we got
This is worth any cost
So make the most of life that's borrowed
Love like there's no tomorrow

Someone loves you
Even when you don't think so
Don't you know
You got me and Jesus
By your side
Through the fight
You will never be alone
On your own
You got me and Jesus

Even when you don't think so
Don't know you
You got me and Jesus
By your side
Through the fight
You will never be alone
On your own
You got me and Jesus

You will never be alone...
You got me and Jesus

Blackened Crown - Eisley.

A face broken upstairs, I fall down
Tumbling I lose my ground
Paint my hair a blackened crown
Lift my head as I cry out

Did you hear me holler at you
to come save me I'm in danger
My pearls have fallen into mud
and you were too late

This breath precious to you
knocked from me
Taken so faintly and
I never feel 'till it's too late

Did you hear me holler at you
to come save me I'm in danger
My pearls have fallen into mud
and you are too late.

Did you hear me holler at you
to come save me I'm in danger
My pearls have fallen into mud
and you are too late.

A face broken upstairs, I fall down
Tumbling I lose my ground
Paint my hair a blackened crown
Lift my head as I cry out

Did you hear me holler at you
to come save me I'm in danger
My pearls have fallen into mud
and you are too late.

Did you hear me holler at you
to come save me I'm in danger
My pearls have fallen into mud
and you are too late.
You are too late
You are too late

Yeah I was thinking that too. I guess it's just because all the lyrics are dark, depressing, and usually having to do with losing people one way or the other.  ::)

Speaking of Within Temptation, I have to add this one

Forgiven (whe I heard it for the first time, I though - Oh my. They must know the Romanov story....)

Couldn't save you from the start
Love you so it hurts my soul
Can you forgive me for trying again
Your silence makes me hold my breath
Oh, time has passed you by

Ooh, for so long I've tried to shield you from the world
Ooh, you couldn't face the freedom on your own
Here I am left in silence

You gave up the fight
You left me behind
All that's done's forgiven
You'll always be mine
I know deep inside
All that's done's forgiven

I watched the clouds drifting away
Still the sun can't warm my face
I know it was destined to go wrong
You were looking for the great escape
To chase your demons away

Ooh, for so long I've tried to shield you from the world
Ooh, you couldn't face the freedom on your own
And here I am left in silence

You gave up the fight
You left me behind
All that's done's forgiven
You'll always be mine
I know deep inside
All that's done's forgiven

I've been so lost since you've gone
Why not me before you
Why did fate deceive me
Everything turned out so wrong
Why did you leave me in silence

You gave up the fight
You left me behind
All that's done's forgiven
You'll always be mine
I know deep inside
All that's done's forgiven

This one reminds me of the IF, Ella, and co.
Remember Me by Mark Schultz

Remember me
In a Bible cracked and faded by the years
Remember me
In a santuary filled with silent prayers

CHORUS:
And age to age
And heart to heart
Bound by grace and peace
Child of wonder, Child of God
I'll remember you
Remember Me

Remember me
When the color of the sunset fills the sky
Remember me
When you pray and the tears of joy
fall from your eyes

CHORUS

Remember me
When the children leave
their Sunday school with smiles
Remember me
When they're old enough to teach
Old enough to preach
Old enough to leave

CHORUS

Age to age and heart to heart
Child of wonder child of God

Remember me

Age to age and heart to heart
Child of wonder child of God

Once upon a December - Deana Carter/Disney Anastasia Movie

Dancing bears Painted wings
Things I almost remember
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory

Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember
Things my heart
Used to know
Once upon a December

Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory

Far away, long ago
Glowing dim an as ember
Things my heart
Used to know
Things it yearns to remember

And a song
Someone sings
Once upon a December

I was listening to Coldplay's Viva La Vida, and the song 42 reminded me a lot about not so much the Romanovs, but their memory. It made me think of the Dowager Empress tacked up in Hvidore in Copenhagen refusing to believe  Nicholas, Alexandra and her grandchildren were really dead. Also this reminds me of their memory and the gilded world they lived in, now lost to us in the modern age:

Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living my head
And since I fell for that spell
I am living there as well
Oh...

Time is so short and I'm sure
There must be something more

Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living my head oh…
And since I fell for that spell
I am living there as well oh…

Time is so short and I'm sure
There must be something more

You thought you might be a ghost
You thought you might be a ghost
You didn't get to heaven but you made it close
You didn't get to heaven but you made it close

You thought you might be a ghost
You thought you might be a ghost
You didn't get to heaven but you made it close
You didn't get to heaven but you oh oh
Oh oh…

Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living my head
Oh...

You're so right. It is perfect, and to be honest it would be great to see Marie/Dagmar's life put into a movie, on how she lived as Tsarina, became the Dowager Empress and then had to run because of revolution. About how she saw the world around her crumbling down, and yet she kept believen her loved-ones remained alive somewhere.

This song reminds me of N&A:
Ocean Wide by The Afters

Look outside
It's already light and the stars ran away with the night
Things we're said, words that we'll try forget,
it's so hard to admit I know we've made mistakes
I see through all the tears but that's what got us here

[Chorus:]
If love is an ocean wide
We'll swim in the tears we cry
They'll see us through to the other side
We're gonna make it
When love is a raging sea
You can hold on to me
We'll find a way tonight
Love is an ocean wide

I'll stay right here
It's where I'll always belong
Tied with your arms
Days like this, I wish the sun wouldn't set
I don't want to forget
What made us feel this way
You see through all my fears
And that's what got us here

[Chorus]

Love is an ocean wide enough to forget
Even when we think we can't

This song reminds me of NAOTMAA:
"Beautiful Words" by The Afters

Slow down
This is such a blur
Tell me what's the hurry now
Have we been running round in circles
Missing all that we could be
You say it's not too late

[Chorus:]
We are words
On pages that we've left unturned
An ending no one's ever heard
We are a story slowly unfolding
Beautiful words

I could walk across the ocean
With you walking next to me
And you could melt away this winter
Now we're starting over
We will see it's not too late

[Chorus]

That last when everything else has passed
Even when the stars are gone
I know every single beautiful word that we were will live on

[Chorus]

This song reminds me of the Romanovs while they were in captivity:

P.S.: The phrase 'beauty from pain' I interperet in this setting is that they became saints after their horrific deaths.

"Beauty From Pain" by Superchick

The lights go out all around me
One last candle to keep out the night
And then the darkness surrounds me
I know i'm alive but i feel like i've died
And all that's left is to accept that it's over
My dreams ran like sand through the fists that i made
I try to keep warm but i just grow colder
I feel like i'm slipping away

After all this has passed, i still will remain
After i've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain
Though it won't be today,
Someday i'll hope again
And there'll be beauty from pain
You will bring beauty from my pain

My whole world is the pain inside me
The best i can do is just get through the day
When life before is only a memory
I'll wonder why God lets me walk through this place
And though i can't understand why this happened
I know that i will when i look back someday
And see how you've brought beauty from ashes
And made me as gold purified through these flames

After all this has passed, i still will remain
After i've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain
Though it won't be today,
Someday i'll hope again
And there'll be beauty from pain
You will bring beauty from my pain

Here i am, at the end of me
Tryin to hold to what i can't see
I forgot how to hope
This night's been so long
I cling to Your promise
There will be a dawn

After all this has passed, i still will remain
After i've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain
Though it won't be today,
Someday i'll hope again
And there'll be beauty from pain
You will bring beauty from my pain

I'm not sure if this one has been posted...but its by a Polish group called Łzy.
Its called Anastazja, jestem...or Anastasia, I am.
heres the youtube link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hl3S_BFd9u8

and the lyrics.

Leżę tutaj już od piętnastu lat,
Nie mogę nic powiedzieć, ruszyć ręką, ani wstać,
Sprawny umysł mam, jednak martwe ciało,
Wszystko słyszę i czuję, po prostu wegetuję.

Pamiętasz mamo, jak tuliłaś mnie do snu?
A teraz tylko ból i pokój zawsze pełen róż.
Każdego dnia, jednego tylko chcę:
Błagam was, zlitujcie się i zabijcie mnie.

Nikt nie stoi, wszyscy dobrze się bawią,
A może właśnie teraz
Na pewno ktoś, na pewno ktoś umiera
I w czyichś ramionach wylewa łzy,
Czy pomyślałeś, że to mógłbyś być ty?

Nikt nie stoi, wszyscy dobrze się bawią,
A może właśnie teraz, na pewno ktoś, na pewno ktoś umiera
I w czyichś ramionach wylewa łzy,
Może on, a może ona, najważniejsze, że nie ty.

W natłoku myśli wielu chłopców miałam
I w niejedną wielką podróż wyruszyłam.
Wiem, że ty naprawdę to przeżywasz,
A ja po prostu śniłam, ja po prostu śniłam.

Pamiętasz mamo, jak tuliłaś mnie do snu?
A teraz tylko ból i pokój zawsze pełen róż.
Każdego dnia, jednego tylko chcę:
Błagam was, zlitujcie się i zabijcie mnie.

I w czyichś ramionach wylewa łzy,
Czy pomyślałeś, że to mógłbyś być ty?

Nikt nie stoi, wszyscy dobrze się bawią,
A może właśnie teraz, na pewno ktoś, na pewno ktoś umiera
I w czyichś ramionach wylewa łzy,
Może on, a może ona, najważniejsze, że nie ty.

along with the translation

I've been laying here for fifteen years
I can't speak, move my hands or get up
My mind is still alive
Yet, I have dead body
I hear everything, I feel everything
I'm just vegetating here

Do you remember, mom
The way you lulled me to sleep?
And now there's only pain
And room full of roses
Everyday I want only one thing
Please, have mercy and kill me

Ref. Nobody's standing
Everyone's having a good time
And it might be that now someone is dying
And he is pouring tears in somebody's arms
Maybe it's him, maybe it's her
It only matters that's not you

In many thoughts I had many boys
And I went for a big journey
I know that you took it very emotionally
But I was only dreaming
Only dreaming

Do you remember, mom
The way you lulled me to sleep?
And now there's only pain
And room full of roses
Everyday I want only one thing
Please, have mercy and kill me

Everyday I ask:
Will it end someday?
And I hate the words:
Nothing will tear us apart
Everyday I pray
take me with yourself
People has no rights
People cannot kill me

Ref. Nobody's standing
Everyone's having a good time
And it might be that now someone is dying
And he is pouring tears in somebody's arms
Did you ever think that it might have been you?
Nobody's standing
Everyone's having a good time
And it might be that now someone is dying
And he is pouring tears in somebody's arms
Maybe it's him, maybe it's her
What's the most important: it's not you

Correct, but ah well for now we shall have to wait for the release of the movie-version of 'The Kitchenboy',
I have also a new song, which I am using for a video:p

David Cook, Permanent - from Nicholas' POV

Quote
Is this the moment where I look you in the eye?
Forgive my broken promise that you'll never see me cry
And everything, it will surely change
Even if I tell you I won't go away today

Will you think that you're all alone
When no one's there to hold your hand?
When all you know seems so far away
And everything is temporary, rest your head
I'm permanent

I know he's living in hell every single day
And so I ask, oh God is there some way for me to take his place?
And when they say it's all touch and go
I wish I could make it go away but still you say

Will you think that you're all alone
When no one's there to hold your hand?
When all you know seems so far away
And everything is temporary, rest your head
I'm permanent, I'm permanent

Is this the moment where I look you in the eye?
Forgive my promise that you'll never see me cry

PAUL RYAN sang this beautiful song on SCORPIO RISING LP in 1976.
PAUL  was known as BRYAN RYAN 's brother. The duet sang in the 60's a lot .. but as the success arrived, the duet broke and they had their own artistic way : BRYAN did a big international success with ELOISE

and PAUL hasn't real success with his SCORPIO RISING LP.
I personnaly meet this record in 1976-1977 with a firend. I really enjoy this music but i've  never be able to retrieve them anyway. On 2009, PAUL RAYN's youtube online videos appear .. They are now all available ...  except "THE DAY ANASTASIA DIED" :

Post by: Katya90 on January 26, 2010, 10:09:25 PM
My goodness, I could probably take up an entire page of this topic!!! (And I probably eventually will, unless someone objects!) First off, I agree completely with those who mentioned the various song from Viva La Vida representing the Romanovs... I really think Coldplay should just admit that they wrote the album about them. What else could those songs be about?? (Well, to be fair, a lot of my friends think Viva La Vida is about a Doctor Who character...) Anyway, to add another one to that list, "Death and All His Friends" is another great track from that album. It seems so much like the family reminiscing during those last days in the Ipatiev house... And then the hidden track at the end of the song ("The Escapist"), which repeats "We lie awake, and we dream of making our escape"... it reminds me so much of those stories of the nights they stayed up with full outfits on, hoping to be rescued.

And to the person who mentioned "Nearer My God To Thee" reminding them of the Romanovs... I just played my version from the Titanic soundtrack, and it totally gave me that whole atmosphere of an elegy to them... especially haunting is the fact that the Titanic version ends with the sound of people screaming... it's like a perfect requiem for their deaths.

As for my own observations... when I first learned about NAOTMAA in my high school history class, I wanted to see more pictures of them so i searched youtube to see if there were any slideshows, and I found a video with Tori Amos's "Yes, Anastasia"... I actually got the whole album after that and listened to it while I was studying for my test on Russian History. I don't know if it was the combination of hearing the music while learning about them, or looking at all of their pictures and feeling a sort of mystery surrounding them, but I basically found that almost every song on that CD has at least some lyrics that sound like the Romanovs' story. After that I kind of made it a challenge of sorts to myself to try and relate every Tori Amos song to NAOTMAA. And it's actually amazingly easy!! So many of her songs remind me of them. So that's what I'll end up filling this thread with, haha. But for now I'll start off with the few songs by others that also seem to have a Romanov connection... here's one of the greatest:

Regina Spektor - Après Moi
This song to me is the perfect embodiment of the February/March Revolution. The first verse is Nicholas's point of view in response to those wanting to abdicate... he's telling them that it's not just about him, but about upholding the institution of Tsardom...
I must go on standing
You can't break that which isn't yours
I must go on standing
I'm not my own, it's not my choice

The second verse then reminds me of what I read in Nicholas & Alexandra, about Alix getting paranoid during the revolution and writing to Nicky about all the different people she never trusted or who didn't like her...
Be afraid of the the lame, they'll inherit your legs
Be afraid of the old, they'll inherit your soul
Be afraid of the cold, they'll inherit your blood
"Après Moi, le déluge": after me comes the flood

The end of this verse is interesting because supposedly it was said by Madame du Pompadour to Louis XV, the last king of France before the revolution there. And she was basically right. So it's almost like Alix reminding Nicky of what could happen if he isn't strong.

Those verses then repeat a few times, followed by the most beautiful part of the song: a verse, in Russian, from a poem by Boris Pasternak. Not speaking Russian myself I've tried to find translations, and I've gotten many different versions, but the basic gist of it is something like "February, take up your pen and weep," which is of course fitting for the February Revolution. Here's the Russian text in case anyone wants to translate it: (no idea if the spelling is accurate)

Fevrale dostat chernil i plakat
Pisat O Fevrale navsnryd
Poka grohochushaya slyakot
Vesnoyu charnoyu gorit

And with Cyrillic lettering:
Февраль. Достать чернил и плакать!
Писать о феврале навзрыд,
Пока грохочущая слякоть
Весною черною горит.

Then the end of the song repeats the first two verses a few times, with sounds of bells and other things that seem to foreshadow doom. I wish it was still available on youtube. :( There is a live version you can listen to however: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUoKVhQ2sz0

And to continue with two other songs... the first one is probably just me, but in listening to Arcade Fire's "In The Backseat" recently, I seemed to hear it through OTMA's perspective, after one of Alexei's health scares... the opening lines of "I like the peace in the backseat, I don't have to drive, I don't have to speak..." reminded me of how the IF's train traveled so slowly back from Spala... I can just imagine the girls looking out the windows and trying to forget all of the tensions going on. It could also be a metaphor for how people focused on Alexei instead of them, and how that could sometimes have been a relief because it took the pressure off them. The lyrics continue with "My family tree is losing all its leaves," which could probably also have been going through their heads at such a time. And to continue the "backseat" metaphor, the next lines are "crashing towards the driver's seat," which seems to foreshadow the revolution ahead and how people wanted to get rid of the person in charge of it all. Then "the lightning bolt made enough heat to melt the street beneath your feet" continues that mood. The rest of the lyrics don't match up as well though... unless, and now I'm reaaally overthinking this, you change the perspective in the song to a young Alix's point of view, since it continues "Alice died in the night" (her mother) and "I've been learning to drive my whole life," i.e., learning to stand out/take over/lead, which is what she did in a way by becoming empress. (Reading back over this, I know officially think I'm crazy!!)

And the second song... I discovered this one sort of accidentally. It was a free download from iLike, and I haven't been able to find any albums or information about the artist other than what came with the song. Anyway, it's called "Missing (Disparu)" and is by Carol Donaghue, and it is the PERFECT song to describe the Anastasia mystery from a scientifically correct perspective, without deluding any of the "charm" of sorts of if she'd survived. Anyway, I couldn't even find any lyrics online, so I've transcribed them the best I could from what I've heard, but my French is still not perfect, so there are some details missing from that part. Anyway...

I lay in this world, look around me
I lay on this ground, cold earth below me
There is not a sound
No heartbeat, no feeling, no breathing

I am all alone, lying on my own
Find me, seek me, I’ll keep on calling
Don’t forget me, I’ll keep on calling
Please remember me
My face, my voice, my being

I’m only missing as you’ve yet to find me
I’m only missing as you’ve yet to find me here

Je suis étendu (this is gramatically incorrect but that's what it sounds like!) dans ce(tte) boîte (Translates as "I'm lying in this box" or "I laid in this box")
Regarde autour de moi ("Look around me")
Je suis étendu par terre ("I'm lying/I laid on the ground")
Sous moi le sol est froid ("Beneath me the earth is cold")
Tout est silencieux et tranquille ("All is silent and calm")
Sans vie, sans souffle, sans sensation ("Without life, without breath, without feeling")

Je suis toute seule (I am all alone)
étendu toute seule (Lying all alone)
Trouvez-moi, cherchez-moi (Find me, seek me)
J'appelle sans cesse (I'm calling without cease/constantly)
Ne m'oubliez pas, j'appelle sans cesse (Don't forget me, I'm calling constantly)
Ne m'oublize pas, s'il vous plaît (Don't forget me, please)
Mon visage, ma voix, mon être (My face, my voice, my being)

Je suis disparu, parce que vous ne me retrouvez pas (I'm missing because you haven't found me)
Je suis disparu, parce que vous ne me retrouvez pas ici (I'm missing because you haven't found me here)

I think that's mostly right. The singer might not be a native french speaker and that would account for some gramatical errors. Anyway, I think it sums up Anastasia's death pretty well, and the conflict over who was missing from the grave. Since it was offered officially by the singer as a free download, then I don't think it would be a problem to share it with you: http://www.sendspace.com/file/k9cdso

Hmm, interesting. I've never made that connection, but it does work. :)

Well, here I go with my crazy song analyses again... I guess I'll post some of the Tori Amos ones this time, but where do I begin? I have an actual playlist on my iPod of songs that remind me of NAOTMAA, and I just counted and there's about 15 Tori Amos ones on there!!! I've never really realized how wrapped up in this I can get until now! *takes a deep breath*

First off, Ribbons Undone. Another great Anastasia song. This could work really well in a slideshow for her. Really, it could be about any of her sisters as well, but the title reminds me of all those pictures of her with messy hair, like she's been running around and ruining all the ribbons someone tied in. A very sweet and pretty song about childhood innocence. Listen here (someone else's video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJnzFAUiDZI

Next, Winter. This one hit me as a perfect NAOTMAA song the moment I first heard it. So sad and poignant... it starts off innocently, from the point of view of a girl playing in the snow, but then her father starts talking and the tone changes...

He says, When you gonna make up your mind?
When you gonna love you as much as I do?
When you gonna make up your mind?
'Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change, my dear

Those lines are so perfect for describing Nicholas's love for his children. And the "things are gonna change so fast" line is wonderful here: Not just about general growing up, but in NAOTMAA's case, their entire lives being thrown for a loop with the war and the revolution. The way Tori sings it just breaks my heart. Then the next verse has more about growing up, coming into one's own, etc. One of the lines is "Mirror, mirror, where's the Crystal Palace? But I only can see myself," which again reminds me of OTMA. Then the last verse...

Hair is gray and the fires are burning
So many dreams on the shelf
You say I wanted you to be proud of me
I always wanted that myself

Perfect for the revolution- Nicholas's hair graying from stress, and the simple admission to his children that he just wanted them to be proud of their father. *sobs* See what I mean about her songs fitting? I think Tori was more inspired by Anastasia than she thought!!

From that same album is a song called Mother, which struck me first as about the IF leaving the AP for Tobolsk, but now that I know more about Alix's life, it's sort of a hybrid of that and of her feelings as she was facing marriage. The first verse is about someone scared to leave home, and her mother telling her that it's time to go, that she chose this, etc. Of course Alix's mother wasn't alive when she was getting married, but it could easily be Queen Victoria, or just Alix imagining what her mother would say.

The first line of the chorus: "Mother, the car is here. Somebody leave the light on." First made me think of OTMA saying that as they were getting ready to leave, asking for a light to be left on because they had no idea how long they would be imprisoned, or that they'd never come back. The rest of it however is back to Alix: "Green limousine for the redhead, dancing, dancing girl"... an MK reference? The rest is about dancing as well. And then "I can remember where I come from"... Alix's roots versus her new home.

The next verse to me is SO much about Alix's relationship with Rasputin:
I walked into your dream
And now I've forgotten how to dream my own dream
You are the clever one, aren't you?
Brides in veils for you
We told you all of our secrets
All but one
And don't you even try
The phone has been disconnected
Dripping with blood and with time and with your advice
Poison me against the moon
...how Rasputin died (sorta)

And then back to the "Mother, the car is here" and this time: "Black chariot for the redhead," kind of connecting the two scenarios, becoming an Empress and being dethroned. This chorus includes a fearfully whispered "He's gonna change my name"... Alix to Alexandra... and later, "First my left foot, then my right behind the other. Breadcrumbs lost under the snow." Alix coming to see Russia as her new home, and herself as Russian rather than German/English.

I'm not saying that Alix didn't want to marry Nicky, but every woman has anxieties. Especially Alix with her issue about changing her religion.

Well, there's three songs down!!! I don't want these posts to get too long, but I feel like I'm hogging the board because I'm making so many!!

I've listened to a song called "Mama Look Sharp" from the musical 1776 and just the two recent times a couple days ago and right now as I'm typing (which is why this post is being made) it somehow reminds me of Alexei to Alexandra

Here the lyrics:
Courier:
Momma, hey momma, come lookin' for me
I'm here in the meadow by the red maple tree
Momma, hey momma, look sharp, here I be
Hey, hey, momma look sharp

Them soldiers, they fired. Oh ma, did we run
But then we turned round and the battle begun
Then I went under, oh ma, am I done?
Hey, hey, momma look sharp

My eyes are wide open, my face to the sky
Is that you I'm hearin' in the tall grass nearby?
Momma come find me before I do die
Hey, hey, momma look sharp
All:
I'll close your eyes, my Billy
Them eyes that cannot see
And I'll bury you, my Billy
Beneath the maple tree
Courier:
And never again will you whisper to me
Hey, hey, momma look sharp

I've never heard anything from that musical before, but from reading the lyrics I agree. Very expressive! I'll have to give it a listen some time.

I guess I'll add a few more of my ramblings now...
Next song: Spark (Tori Amos... as are all the others)
This song reminds me a lot of Alexandra and the troubles in her life. Opening lines:
She's addicted to nicotine patches. >the various drugs Alix was taking for all of her illnesses
She's afraid of the light in the dark. >her distrust of anything against her opinion, i.e., those who hated Rasputin

The next verse is what made me first come to see this song as Alexandra-related:
She's convinced she could hold back a glacier,
(Convinced she could hold back sands of fire.)
But she couldn't keep Baby alive.
Doubting if there's a woman in there somewhere.
(Ha... doubting... guilty, guilty.)
Here... Here... Here...
>This one is pretty obvious. Alix tried to be a mother to all of Russia, to stand firm for the country, yet her own child was frail and weak. This of course probably made her feel like a failure on some levels, since she couldn't produce a "normal" son.

You say you don't want it again and again.
But you don't, don't really mean it.
You say you don't want it, this circus we're in.
But you don't, don't really mean it.
You don't, don't really mean it...
>This verse seems to be her talking to Nicky towards the end of his reign, reminding him to hang on to his title.

The bridge is then the most expressive:
How many fates turn around in the overtime?
Ballerinas that have fins that you'll never find.
You thought that you were the bomb, yes well so did I.
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it...
>These seem like Alix's thoughts during the revolution: confused, scattered, angry, etc. The question of fate is on how they could go from rulers of such a vast empire to prisoners. The "ballerinas" part seems to be a callback to Nicholas's romance with MK, how part of his "fate" was not being allowed to have a relationship with her. Overall a very moody song.

Next: Take Me With You
This song reminds me of NAOTMAA's final days in the Ipatiev house, hoping there would be a rescue somehow. The point of view seems to be from one of OTMA's perspective:
In and out on this same path that I followed for years
Can't I look around and ask how could we still end up here
I can't just hold tight
Wait for them to cut us to ribbons
If the sharpest thing where you come is a blade of grass
Oh, take me with you...

The chorus and the next few verses continue this mood. Then there's the bridge:
Tears turn to steel and the wound never heals
in the darkness of November
>The October/November Revolution, yet another blow to the tradition of Tsardom
Well the witch is in the tower
And the snake's in the bower
And the hunt goes on forever
>I see the "witch" as a representation of the new Bolshevik government, "in the tower" meaning that they are high up, the control everything now.
The "snakes" are the soldiers in the Ipatiev house, watching their every move, not letting them escape. The "hunt" is the murdering of NAOTMAA's family members.

Now the stake is there to burn
My fathers robe is torn between cross and Mother
>The first line is obvious... the Romanovs are going to be "burned at the stake," per se. However, the next line actually doesn't apply to NAOTMAA very well, since Alexandra was very religious.
With the blood on your hands, come on
What you doing
I am fed up with this questioning.
> Seems like one of OTMA is interrogating/telling off the guards.

Another song I think symbolizes the time in the Ipatiev house is Black-Dove (January)...
She was a January girl, she never let on how insane it was,
In that tiny, kind of scary house,
By the woods, by the woods, by the woods, by the woods...
>None of OTMA were born in January, but the rest of the verse has a strong connection to them. It seems to epitomize the uneasy feelings they must've felt under imprisonment. The next verse has more connections:

She had a January world. So many storms, not right somehow.
How a lion becomes a mouse...
By the woods, by the woods, by the woods, by the woods...
>January world = Russia, due to its northern situation. "So many storms"... uprisings, protests, revolutions. "How a lion becomes a mouse" reminds me of Nicholas, going from Tsar to being totally disrespected by the guards, ordered around, etc.

The chorus seems to be a form of comfort to OTMA, if a bit anachronistic:
Black-dove... Black-dove...
You're not a helicopter, you're not a cop-out either, honey.
Black-dove... Black-dove...
You don't need a space ship. They don't know you've already lived...
On the other side of the galaxy.
>This seems to be an analogy for how famous OTMA have become after death. It's saying, you don't need cars, bikes, or any other transportation to get away from this place. You will be free and you will be known far and wide. A little strange probably, but that's how I see it.

One section of Flying Dutchman reminds me of NAOTMAA's imprisonment as well...
Keep the boys spinning in their own little world >How the aristocracy and the rulers of Russia were distanced from the realities of the average person while in power, and how information was kept from them once they were imprisoned
Time up, and so we won't say a word >This reminds me of the final night, everyone being led down to the basement...
They keep the boys spinning in their own little world
So afraid he'll be what they never were
>Killing Alexei so no one could ever put him in power
The rest of the song is completely different though!

And another song, Father Lucifer, reminds me of Rasputin in the first few verses, but then the lyrics get too modern... the line "Baby's still in his comatose state" reminds me of Alexei though.

I'll cut off this post now, since I fear it's getting waaaay too long, but next I have a few songs that remind me of Anastasia, and then the songs from Under the Pink *besides* Yes, Anastasia which remind me of NAOTMAA.

Wow, I imagined it as something completely different, but I like the slow, sad melody. It does seem like an Alix & Alexei sort of thing.

More from me! First, Tori's song 1000 Oceans reminds me of NAOTMAA for some reason, even though they were never really separated, so there was no need for any of them to "find" each other. But the lyrics still fit them, because any of them would be that devoted to each other to seek one of them out if they were lost. I especially think of it as representing Alexandra's devotion to her children. Here's the lyrics:

These tears I've cried
I've cried 1000 oceans
And if it seems
I'm floating in the darkness
Well, I can't believe that I would keep
Keep you from flying
And I would cry 1000 more
If that's what it takes
To sail you home
Sail you home
Sail you home

I'm aware what the rules are
But you know that I will run
You know that I will follow you
Over silbury hill
Through the solar field
You know that I will follow you

And if I find you
Will you still remeber
Playing at trains
Or does this litte blue ball
Just fade away
Over silbury hill
Through the solar field
You know that I will follow you
I'm aware what the rules are
But you know that I will run
You know that I will follow you

These tears I've cried
I've cried 1000 oceans
And if it seems
I'm floating in the darkness
Well I can't believe that I would keep
Keep you from flying
So I will cry 1000 more
If that's what it takes
To sail you home
Sail you home
Sail you home
Sail
Sail you home[/b]

Then I have two songs of Tori's which remind me of Anastasia. The first is Girl. The refrain especially: "She's been everybody else's girl, maybe one day she'll be her own." It reminds me of how Anastasia unfortunately never really got to grow up as much as her sisters did; her father had already abdicated before she turned 16. But in the end she did become "her own"... overlooked for OTM during her life, but ultimately becoming the most famous. And then her age also comes into play in the second verse...

And in the doorway they stay
And laugh as violins fill with water
Screams from the bluebells, can't make them go away
We'll I'm not seventeen, but I've cuts on my knees
Falling down as the winter takes one more cherry tree

The "cherry trees" here represent all the empires that collapsed as a result of World War I. The Russian Empire fell in February... the winter took another cherry tree. I'm not really sure about the meaning of the rest of the verse, but it seems very imposing, like there is something there that the subject of the song doesn't like and that scares her. For Anastasia, I could easily see this being personified as the Bolshevik guards. And then of course, "I'm not seventeen, but I've cuts on my knees." She's young, but she's already been through so much.

Last verse:
And in the mist there she rides
Castles are burning in my heart
And as I twist I hold tight
And I ride to work every morning, wondering why
"Sit in the chair and be good now"
Oh, and become all that they told you
The white coats enter her room
and I'm callin' my baby, callin' my baby, callin' my baby, callin'...

"Castles are burning"... another Revolution reference. And the last few lines without a doubt evoke the execution for me. "Sit in the chair and be good now"... the guards telling them to stand still, and wait for the photograph that never got taken. "The white coats enter her room, and I'm callin' my baby"... I can just see Alexandra screaming for her children as the Bolsheviks came in and started shooting. (Of course, the actual "white coats" would've been monarchists, but you can't be perfect.)

And then there's the song Take To The Sky, which seems to be a perfect portrait of Anastasia's personality. The lyrics:
This house is like Russia
With eyes cold and grey
You got me moving in a circle
I dyed my hair red today
I just want a little passion
To hold me in the dark
I know I've got some magic
Buried deep in my heart yeah

But my priest says
You ain't saving no souls
My father says
You ain't making any money
My doctor says
You just took it to the limit
And here I stand
With this sword in my hand
You can say it one more time
What you don't like
Let me hear it one more time then
Have a seat while I
Take to the sky

My heart is like the ocean
It gets in the way
So close to touching freedom
Then I hear the guards call my name

But my priest says
You ain't taking no souls
My father says
You ain't making any money
My doctor says
You just took it to the limit
And here I stand
With this sword in my hand
You can say it one more time
What you don't like
Let me hear it one more time then
Have a seat while I
Take to the sky

If you don't like me just a little
Why do you hang around
(There she goes again
Wearing those purple panties
There she goes again
Wearing her heart
There she goes again)
Why do you
Take it, take it, take it...

You can say it one more time
You can say it one more time
You can say it one more time
What you don't like
Let me hear it one more time then
Have a seat while I
Take to the sky

Just the whole wild/brave thing, you know?
It looks like I have 6 songs left, all from the same album as "Yes, Anastasia." I doubt I'll be able to fit them all in one post, so expect a few more from me soon. :)

Whoops... didn't mean to make it all italic! Looks like I used the code for bold somewhere by mistake. Sorry everyone. :P

Anyway... Tori Amos's album Under the Pink is best known around here for the song "Yes, Anastasia," but I think a lot of the other tracks might have been influenced by the Romanovs as well... let's start with Track 1...

Pretty Good Year
This song seems to take place on the cusp of the Revolution, or perhaps the end of 1916. Lyrics:

Tears on the sleeve of a man
Don't want to be a boy today
>Nicholas, facing the end of his empire, has to make some pretty big decisions and doesn't want to be seen as a coward.
I heard the eternal footman
Bought himself a bike to race
>Everything is changing, friends are becoming enemies, etc.
And Greg he writes letters and burns his CDs >Rasputin and his apocalyptic notes. The second half of the line doesn't work though, obviously!
They say you were something in those formative years >Nicholas being so adored, then slowly falling out of favor over the years...
Hold onto nothing as fast as you can
Well, still, a pretty good year.
>Suddenly they have nothing left, but reflecting on 1916, it was still good until the end.

Maybe a bright sandy beach
is gonna bring you back, back, back
>Reminiscing about family trips, the better days, etc.
Maybe not, so now you're off
you're gonna see America
Well let me tell you something about America...
>The Romanovs thought so many countries would take them in, but none did. This last line seems like someone is breaking the news to them, and the piano part briefly turns dark and moody after this as well.

Then the bridge... it seriously makes me cry.
Some things are melting now
Some things are melting now
>The way this is played, it's so peaceful and lament-like, as if it's a requiem for the Romanovs as their old lives fade away.

Then the next line comes out of nowhere, suddenly angry and forceful. It sounds to me like Alexandra crying out for someone to make Alexei better, voicing her frustration that she's done all she can, but only received contempt for her efforts.
Well, hey...
What's it gonna take
Til my baby's alright?
What's it gonna take til my baby's alright?

Then the music gets peaceful again...
And Greg he writes letters with his birthday pen
Sometimes he's aware that they're drawing him in
>Rasputin knowing that someone was going to kill him
Lucy was pretty, your best friend agreed
Well, still, pretty good year
>And I'm not really sure about these last lines, lol. Unless there's someone related to the Romanovs named Lucy that I'm unaware of.

Next up, track 3: Bells For Her
The piano in this song is one of the most haunting things I've ever heard. It sounds like an out-of-tune music box. The first time I heard it, I just imagined someone going into the abandoned AP and finding all of their old things, re-exploring their lives, playing with old toys that haven't kept their sound, etc.

The most "Romanovian" part of the song I think is the chorus, a simply repeated:
Can't stop what's coming
Can't stop what is on it's way

Just sounds so much like their despair towards the end... the country was falling out of their hands and there was nothing they could do. In fact, that's actually a line in another verse, which seems to invoke visuals of the Revolution:

Bells and footfalls and soldiers and dolls
Brothers and lovers she and I were
Now she seems to be sand under his shoes
There's nothing I can do.

But the other verses in the song seem to be about the Anna Anderson issue, as if Anastasia is somehow speaking to her...
And through the walls they made their mudpies
"I've got your mind," I said
She said, "I've your voice"
I said, "you don't need my voice, girl
You have your own"
But you never thought it was enough of...
Anna Anderson created this new identity to get away from her actual life.
So they went, years and years
Like sisters, blanket girls
Always there through that and this
"There's nothing we cannot ever fix," I said
This verse is so evocative of OTMA and their devotion to each other.

And now I speak to you, are you in there?
You have her face and her eyes
But you are not her
Another Anna Anderson example.

And the last verse...
Can't stop loving... you
Can't stop what is on its way
And I see it coming
And it's on its way
>The Romanov's devotion to each other was in some ways a contributing factor to their downfall

Then track 4, Past The Mission
The chorus of 'Past the mission, behind the prison tower' made me think of this song as centered on people searching for the Romanovs after their death, trying to figure out what happened to them, etc.

And the main verse that continues this theme for me is the third one, which seems to speak of Alexei and Anastasia, and the mystery of how their bodies weren't found:
Hey, they found a body
Not sure it was his
Still, they're using his name
And she gave him shelter
And somewhere I know she knows
Somewhere I know she knows
Some things only she knows...
The first part of the verse talks about how when NAOTMAA's bodies were found, everyone disagreed on who was who. Then the focus seems to shift to Anastasia, talking of her love for her brother. Then at the end it goes back to the mystery, and how there are still some things that we will never know, because we weren't there.

Only three songs left!! (You're probably glad, lol.)

...And here's the rest!

First: Baker Baker. I view this as from Alexandra's point-of-view during the family's captivity in Tobolsk.

Baker Baker, baking a cake
Make me a day
Make me whole again
And I wonder what's in a day
What's in your cake this time
>Alexandra feels a sort of "emptiness" as the family is forced out of their home and under house arrest

The chorus however makes me think of someone searching for the Romanovs, looking through places like Tobolsk and Ipatiev to try and figure out what happened...
Here...
There must be something here
There must be something here
Here

And then later in the song, back to Alexandra...
Time
Thought I'd make friends with time
Thought we'd be flying
Maybe not this time
>Alexandra wasn't accepted by a lot of the Russian aristocracy, but she thought that eventually things would change, not that everyone's hatred for her would increase.

Then there's Icicle. The first time I heard this song I wasn't really paying attention to the words, so I caught lines here and there that related to OTMA, but somehow totally missed all of the overt sexual references in the song. So anyway, most of it doesn't make me think of them, but those few lines still hold that connection for me... Plus, the opening piano part is gorgeous. Mysterious, then evolving into something innocent and fairytale-like, then collapsing into chaos. It in itself is metaphorical for the Romanovs.

Greeting the monster in our Easter dresses
Father says bow your head like the Good Book says
I think the Good Book is missing some pages...
>the girls' interactions with Rasputin
Gonna lay down >When I first heard this line repeating throughout the song, it seemed like a haunting foreshadowing to me, of how they were going to die. ("lay down," collapse, buried, etc.)

And the last is Cloud on my Tongue. I also imagine this song as taking place in Tobolsk.
Someone's knockin' on my kitchen door
Leave the wood outside, what
All the girls here are freezing cold
>Feels like a little scene from their lives in Siberia.

Don't stop now, what you're doing
What you're doing, my ugly one
Bring them all here
Hard to hide a hundred girls in your hair
>Reminds me of all the jewels they were concealing.

The girl's in circles and circles, got to stop spinning
Circles and circles and circles again
Thought I was over the bridge now
>Feels like the moment when they were told they were being taken somewhere else. They thought they were done with that, but they realize that it's not even close to being over, and it's dizzying.

Well, that's it for that project!!
Also, I heard Love Vigilantes by Iron & Wine (originally New Order) the other day and it reminded me of Nicholas on the front:

Oh, I've just come from the land of the sun
From a war that must be won in the name of truth
With our soldiers so brave your freedom we will save
With our rifles and grenades and some help from God

I want to see my family
My wife and child are waiting for me
I've got to go home
I've been so alone, you see

You just can't believe the joy I did receive
When I finally got my leave and I was going home
Oh, I flew through the sky, my convictions could not lie
For my country I would die, and I will see it soon

I want to see my family
My wife and child are waiting for me
I've got to go home
I've been so alone, you see

When I walked through the door my wife she lay upon the floor
And with tears her eyes did soar, I did not know why
Then I looked into her hand and I saw the telegram
Said that I was a brave, brave man, but that I was dead

I want to see my family
My wife and child are waiting for me
I've got to go home
I've been so alone, you see

I want to see my family
My wife and child are waiting for me
I've got to go home
I've been so alone, you see

Okay, I guess I only thought I was done before... :P

Lately some Vienna Teng songs have been reminding me of NAOTMAA. Namely Antebellum and Last Snowfall. The first is mainly from the last line of the chorus: "I know our antebellum innocence was never meant to see the light of our armistice day"... they didn't live to see the end of the war. And the second just seems like what some of their reflections might've been like in Tobolsk, namely Alexandra when she had to choose to either go with Nicky or stay with the children. Here's a link to the lyrics: http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858761525/

Another song is the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Stadium Arcadium, but it's mostly a function of the first line: Bells around St. Petersburg when I saw you...

And lastly, I just remembered this the other day... back when I was younger and I first saw the animated movie Anastasia, the song Piano Man reminded me of the plot...
Son, can you play me a memory?
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet,
And I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes

So, not exactly a NAOTMAA song, but kind of...
And the last thing is more than a song, but there was this old sketch on Saturday Night Live that wasn't actually funny, but sad... it was called "Love is a Dream" and it was about an old woman who tries on a tiara and suddenly becomes young and in a ballgown, and a man in a soldier's uniform comes up and dances with her. Just the atmosphere reminds me of them. Unfortunately it's not on youtube but here's a transcript with some pictures: http://snltranscripts.jt.org/88/88iloveisadream.phtml

This is probably a little bit of a stretch, but "I Owe You A Love Song" by Shiny Toy Guns kind of reminds me of Nicholas and Alexandra when they were younger, maybe the years between their second meeting in 1889 (when they really fell in love with each other) and their marriage.

(Chorus, sung by a guy)
I owe you a love song
So much i could say
I owe you a love song
Words that i can't say

(This part's sung by a woman)
Remember the days
Of sleepless summer nights
That took us away
A perfect place a different time
Back when nothing was wrong
Now we're each sold separately
Our summers are gone
Grey skies are all i see

(In the case of Nicholas and Alexandra, they would have had a winter together as opposed to "sleepless summer nights", but I'm sure you understand the sentiment. "We're each sold separately" would be when they were apart, and that feeling of withdrawal of being away from someone you love.)

These broken days won't last forever
You know I'll put us back together

(I think these lyrics fit perfectly with Nicholas' attitude towards marrying Alix. It could be him saying, "Look, I know we're apart now, but I promise we'll end up together eventually.")

I owe you a love song
So much I could say
I owe you a love song
Words that i can't say

(sung by a woman again)
Waiting alone
In the world you made for me
Makes staying in love
Just a world of make believe
Where I'm playing along
And your words aren't clear to me
Like hearing a song
Without a melody

(The two of them "made a world" when they fell in love (as it is with all couples--you and that other person seem to have your own little reality with each other). And even though both Nicholas and Alexandra were sure that they were in love, I'm sure that there had to have been moments when both of them (but particularly Alix, with her hesitation to abandon her Lutheran faith and her knowledge of the fact that Nicholas' parents did not want him to marry her) may have lost hope a bit and wondered whether or not they would really ever get to be together.)

These broken days won't last forever
You know i'll put us back together

I owe you a love song
So much i could say
I owe you a love song
Words that i can't say

We climb
We crawl
Tear down the wall
That we've torn down before
Its not to late the song will say
What i never say

("Tear down the wall" Eventually, Nicholas' resolve won out and he got what he wanted--marriage to Alix)

I owe you a love song
So much i could say
I owe you a love song
Words that i can't say (x2)

Probably a bit silly, but this song did remind me of them.

More from me... this song reminds me of the Romanovs in captivity for some reason, even though the lyrics don't fit at all, geographically, time period, or otherwise!

Vienna Teng - No Gringo

father says head down
we don't want them finding you
mother says practice now
all the words you know

oh Arizona's burning
they say the fence turned round
now the razor wire keeps us out

mother says with luck
we'll sleep under a roof tonight
father says in the truck
we'll be crushed in tight

oh Chicago don't forget me
as the miles between us grow
keep the maple tree carved with the name of my love
the hills we would sled race down
Lake Michigan stay endless and painted in sky
goodbye

Mother says years ago
the whole world was ours to rule
father says let it go
those days are gone for good
...This is the verse that probably got me thinking of them

all the signs read no gringo
but somehow we'll find our way
maybe waiting at dawn by the factory doors
sunburnt and bent in the fields
please don't turn us in
we'll be silent as the grave
as time

I got one. this one is for Anastasia.
anastasia. anastasia.
such a prankster
such a jokster
such a clown
such a wildchild
she can stubborn like a mule but hey who isn't
She likes to play pratical jokes on people
she got something wicked in those eyes of hers
she likes to climb trees because she is a tomboy
she is the most famous out of the four daughters
Aint she a cool person to hang out with?

I just watched pieces of Dreamgirls and at the end they have their final show and there's a song called Hard to Say Goodbye and as i was listening I'm like "for some reason this reminds me of OTMA" here's the song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KhGAQY9_I4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KhGAQY9_I4)

Hard To Say Goodbye, My Love

Ladies and gentlemen, in their farewell performance, the incredible Dreams --> don't know about this part though!

We didn't make forever.
We each got to go our separate way,
And now we're standing here, helpless,
Looking for something to say.
We've been together a long time.
We never thought it would end.
We were always so close to each other;
You were always my friend.

And it's hard to say goodbye, my love.
It's hard to see you cry, my love.
Hard to open up that door.
When you're not sure what you're going for.

We didn't want this to happen,
But we shouldn't feel sad.
We had a good life together.
Just remember, remember, all the times we had.
You know I'll always love you
You know I'll always care
And know matter how far (far I may go) I may go,
In my heart, you'll always be there

(It's so hard) hard to say goodbye, my love.
(Baby, it's so hard) hard to see you cry, my love.
(It's so hard) hard to open up that door,
When you're not sure what you're going for.

(It's so hard.)
Goodbye my love.
(Baby, it's so hard.)
We didn't make forever.
It's so hard.
I can feel there's something more.
(When you're not sure what you're going for.)
We've gotta grow,
We've gotta try,
Though it's hard, so hard
We have to say goodbye
Though it's hard, so hard
We have to say
We didn't make forever.
But i will always love you.
We didn't make forever.
But i will always love you.
It's so hard.
Baby it's so hard
It's so hard.
Baby it's so hard.
(repeat till end of song)

What do you think?

"All Of This Past" by Sara Bettens. Reminds me specifically of Alexandra Feodorovna, and how, of all of the Romanovs, she seemed to be the most resigned to the prospect of her death towards the end. You should really listen to the song. The music is really pretty, sad, and haunting.

Here I go again
Slipping further away
Letting go again
Of what keeps me in place
I like it here
But it scares me to death
There is nothing here

The light is beautiful
But I'm darker than light
And you are wonderful
But this moment is mine

All of this dust
All of this past
All of this over and gone
And never coming back
All of this forgotten
Not by me

I find comfort here
'Cause I know what is lost
Hope is always fear
For the pain it may cost
And I have searched for the reason to go on
I've tried and I've tried
But it's taking me so long
I might be better off
Closing my eyes
And God will come looking for me
In time

All of this dust
All of this past
All of this over and gone
And never coming back
All of this forgotten
Not by me
All of this dust
All of this past
All of this over and gone
And never coming back
All of this forgotten
Not by me

I can see myself
I look peaceful and pale
But underneath
I can barely inhale
I can hear myself singing that song
Over and over until it belongs to me

Warning may cause you to cry. sorry if i did.
Something i wrote about OTMAA
Lost Innocence
Sweet innocent children
killed so young
killed for no apparent reason
except for their namesake - Romanov
they are so innocent
paragram of innocence
didn't deserve to die or the disrespect
killed before they get to experience life
oh you beautiful children
having faces of angels
being stopped living before ever hitting your prime
never to get a chance to fall in love
never to get a Chance to get marry
never to get a chance to have kids
never to get a chance to have a family of their own
the world is not the same now that you are not here to see it flourished
Olga aged 22, 1895 - 1918
Tatiana aged 21, 1897 - 1918
Maria aged 19, 1899 - 1918
Anastasia aged 17, 1901 - 1918
Alexis aged 13, 1904 - 1918
canonized as saints
may they rest in peace
sweet little angels
never to get a chance to hear your angelic voices
goodbye. may you little angels rest in peace

The song "Once you had gold" by Enya really reminds me of the Romanovs:

Once you had gold,
Once you had silver,
Then came the rains out of the blue.
Ever and always. Always and ever.
Time gave both darkness and dreams to you.
Now you can see, Spring becomes autumn, leaves become gold falling from view.
Ever and always. Always and ever.
No-one can promise a dream come true,
Time gave both darkness and dreams to you.
What is the dark shadows around you, why not take heart in the new day?
Ever and always. Always and ever.
No-one can promise a dream for you,
Time gave both darkness and dreams to you.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCL01HXDUAw

And I know this is a Romanov thread, but another Enya song, "Evening Falls" seems to be a perfect fit for Sissi and her not feeling at home at the Veinesse court and her traveling in later life. The fit really seems uncanny to me with this one.

When the evening falls and the daylight is fading,
from within me calls - could it be I am sleeping?
For a moment I stray, then it holds me completely.
Close to home, I cannot stay.
Close to home, feeling so far away.
As I walk there before me a shadow
from another world, where no other can follow.
carry me to my own, to where I can cross over...
Close to home - I cannot stay.
Close to home feeling so far away.
Forever searching; never right, I am lost
in oceans of night. Forever
hoping I can find memories.
those memories I left behind.
Even though I leave will I go on believing
that this time is real - am I lost in this feeling?
like a child passing through, never knowing the reason.
I am home - I know the way.
I am home - feeling oh, so far away.

I don't have the lyrics now, but "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel reminds me of OTMAA. The song is different, but even just the title.

The second reminds me of OTMA; "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry.

Here's hoping it hasn't been posted yet but here's another one that reminds me of OTMA and interestingly enough the movie it's from is about four best friends as it is! It's called Now and Then and it's by Susannah Hoffs... the movie has the same title as this song by the way!  :)

Sorry to revive an older topic but I thought it better than trying to start a new thread...I have a couple of songs I've heard more than once lately that really make me think of the IF.

Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits I don't believe has been mentioned yet. A wonderful and powerful song from one of my all time favorite bands (and albums). The word "Brothers" can easily enough be mentally substituted by "Siblings" so as to make more sense when talking about the actual four sisters and a brother. Interestingly the song was written about the two and a half month Falklands War between England Argentina in 1982 but the lyrics and music combine to sweep you up in such broader interpretations...

The only reason why I haven't associated it with OTMAA until recently is because it's already been prominently featured in a famous episode from the West Wing. I'm sure there are at least a handful of WW fans on here and you'll what I am talking about the dramatic last scene of the second season finale "Two Cathedrals". Anyway here are the lyrics...

These mist covered mountains / Are a home now for me
But my home is the Lowlands / And always will be
Some day you'll return to me / Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn to be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction / Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering / As the battle raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad / In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me my brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just but one
But we live in different one's

Now the sun's gone to hell / And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell / Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight / And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms

One other song that's grabbed my attention more recently is Come To Jesus by singer-songwriter Mindy Smith. If you haven't heard it she has an angel's voice and it's powerful stuff even if you aren't religious/Christian. I think of Alexei, with all of his trials and tribulations, whenever I hear this song now. Right down to the "Baby" references and the obvious sentiment reflecting the spirituality of the family and their faith in the Lord...

Oh, my baby, when you're older
Maybe then you'll understand
You have angels to dance around your shoulders
'Cause at times in life you need a helping hand

Oh, my baby, when you're prayin'
Leave your burden by my door
You have Jesus standing at your bedside
To keep you calm, keep you safe, away from harm

Worry not my daughters
Worry not my sons
Child, when life don't seem worth livin'
Come to Jesus and let him hold you in his arms

Oh, my baby, when you're cryin'
Never hide your face from me
'cause I have conquered hell and driven out the demons
I have come with a light to set you free

Worry not my daughters
Worry not my sons
Child, when life don't seem worth livin'
Come to Jesus and let him hold you in his arms

Oh, my baby, when you're dying
Believe the healing of his hand
Here in Heaven we will wait for your arrival
Here in Heaven you will finally understand
Here in Heaven we will wait for your arrival
Here in Heaven you will finally understand

Worry not my daughters
Worry not my sons
Child, when life don't seem worth livin'
Come to Jesus and let him hold you in his arms

I have one in mind, Borrowed Angels by Kristin Chenoweth. I listen to it, and it always makes me think of OTMA for some reason. Jen I feel like I've seen this song mentioned before (or maybe not), but a good choice none the less. Lyrically this song is perfect!

Just add to my list from above I've heard the song "Photograph" by Ringo Starr recently and I instantly began associating it with OTMAA. One of a small handful of great solo Ringo tunes from the 70s. It's a sad theme, about a relationship falling apart and having nothing left to hold onto but photos and memories, but, maybe because it's Mr. Starkey on vocals or because of the musical arrangement, it still sounds somewhat hopeful to me...

One of my best friends pointed out that a lot of the lyrics in this song seem to fit the Romanovs. I italicized those particular lyrics. I just love that uncanny feeling when you read/listen to lyrics that happen to fit their story so well!

Long Live
Taylor Swift

I said remember this moment, in the back of my mind
The time we stood with our shaking hands
The crowds in the stands went wild
We were the Kings and the Queens
And they read off our names
The night you danced like you knew our lives
Would never be the same
You held your head like a hero
On a history book page
It was the end of a decade
But the start of an age

Long live the walls we crashed through
All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming long live all the magic we made
And bring on all the pretenders
One day, we will be remembered

I said remember this feeling
I passed the pictures around
Of all the years that we stood there

On the side-lines wishing for right now
We are the Kings and the Queens
You traded your baseball cap for a crown
When they gave us our trophies
And we held them up for our town
And the cynics were outraged
Screaming "this is absurd"
Cause for a moment a band of thieves
In ripped up jeans got to rule the world

Long live the walls we crashed through
All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming long live all the magic we made
And bring on all the pretenders
I'm not afraid
Long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
I was screaming long live that look on your face
And bring on all the pretenders
One day, we will be remembered

Hold on to spinning around
Confetti falls to the ground
May these memories break our fall

Will you take a moment, promise me this
That you'll stand by me forever
But if God forbid fate should step in
And force us into a goodbye
If you have children some day
When they point to the pictures
Please tell them my name
Tell them how the crowds went wild
Tell them how I hope they shine

Long live the walls we crashed through
I had the time of my life, with you
Long, long live the walls we crashed through
All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming long live all the magic we made
And bring on all the pretenders
I'm not afraid
Singing, long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
And long, long live that look on your face
And bring on all the pretenders
One day, we will be remembered

Hopefully this hasn't been posted but I did'n't think of the IF until recent months when I heard this song.  "Simple Song" The song is basically saying that you're being looked out for even when you feel alone/ hopeless. The second verse though makes me think of Helena of Serbia

It's a simple song for simple feeling
You see the moon and watch it rise
Across the continent the night bird sings
And somewhere someone hears its cry

So disillusioned
Keep your head down
If you do they'll never know
You'll have no answers to their questions
And they will have to let you go

And disenfranchised
Revolution
They'll take away by right what's yours
And make you martyrs of your own cause
When they don't know what cause it's for

And all deserted
Stand alerted
They'll love you when you're all alone
But you find a red rose in the morning light
You wait the night and find it gone

So hear my words with faith and passion
For what I say to you is true
And when you find the one you might become
Remember part of me is you

"A Change is Gonna Come" is a great call Tsarfan! The legendary Sam Cooke...also the victim of gunshots wounds and murder, although under vastly different circumstances than the IF. I guess we could play with the lyrics a little so it makes a little more sense, such as...

I was born in Tsarskoe Selo in a large palace
And since the revolution I've been imprisoned ever since
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

It's been too hard living but I'm afraid to die
'Cause I don't know what's up there beyond the sky
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

Send to Tobolsk, then Ekaterinburg I called home
Somebody keep telling my papa, "Get off the throne"
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

Then I go to my Russians
And I say, "Brothers, help me please"
But they wind up knockin' me
Back down on my knees

Oh there been times that I thought I couldn't last for long
But now I think I'm able to carry on
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

Haha, glad you liked! Stones by request of Simon. Lets see what I can do with this one...

Well, I saw her today at the coronation
A crown of jewels on her head
I knew she would meet her final destination
At the hands of the Reds who want her dead

No, you can't always get what you want
No, you can't always get what you want
No, you can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime, you just might find
You get what you need

And I joined up, with the revolution
To give my fair share of abuse
Shouting "when we gonna get our constitution!"
And if we don't, we don't blow a 50-amp fuse

And no, you can't always get what you want
No, you can't always get what you want
Well, no, you can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need...all yeah, baby

And I went down to the Nevsky Prospect
To get my prescriptions filled
Standing in line, I saw Alexei's picture
And man, did he look pretty ill

I decided to chat about the revolution
What side to choose...White or Red?
I asked about the Tsar to my friend Vasily
And all he said to me was "want him dead"
I said...

Oh, you can't always get what you want
Oh, you can't always get what you want
Oh, you can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, you just might find
You get what you need

Oh, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want

And I saw him today at Pskof Station
From the train walked a defeated man
And he was signing off on his abdication
I could tell by his ink-stained hands

Oh, you can't always get what you want
Oh, you can't always get what you want

Oh, you can't always get what you want
Oh, you can't always get what you want
Oh, you can't always get what you want
Oh, you can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need
