The Windsors / Re: Queen Victoria's Family

Do we know if the Empress´s correspondence to the Queen was returned to her in 1901 after the Queen´s death or does it languish in the Royal Archives?  If so it would be a treasure trove of insights into the Queen´s position post - marriage.

I think this could only possibly happen after the demise of both the D of E and HM and the D of Y is firmly relegated to the sidelines by his brother.  The Family really do not need this farce!

Beatrice or Louise?

Following on from post regarding the POW attending the State Opening of Parliament for first time in 17 years and earlier announcement in the press that HM would not attend the biennial CHOGM in Sri Lanka due to a desire to "pace" her public duties, does anyone know when the Queen Mother ceased to travel abroad and to where she last travelled?

Hi Lucien - I live in Spain and I can guarantee you that love and respect are not words that are associated with any member of the Family.  The figure who attracts most sympathy and respect is Queen Sofía.

And I don´t think the Principes of Asturias are seen as very inspirational.  There is a general baying for Royal and political blood at the moment.  I sincerely don´t see any way out if this impasse for the institution.

In the case of an abdication he too would lose immunity to prosecution and could end up in a similar position to the Infanta...

It isn´t clear that she "knew" of the embezzlement - that is why she will be questioned.  She was on the board of the foundation and now all the members will have appeared before the judge.  This case is becoming increasingly worrying and setting dangerous and ominous precedents.  Did the King know???  The whole case now appears to me to be a witch hunt against the Monarchy, and the old Republicans are rearing their ugly head.  Believe me, they are aiming for the top and will stop at nothing to discredit the King.  Yes, Iñaki got greedy and should pay the penalty, but it is obvious that the underlying intention is not to do justice but rather damage and undermine.  I wish the Infanta and Iñaki had stayed put in Washington...

It is often difficult to grasp that she is soon to be 87 years old!

Worrying to hear that HM did not attend the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abeey today.  How unusual for HM to miss something so close to her heart.  Let us hope she is better soon!

I´ve just seen a photo of Crown Princess Martha wearing QV´s Turkish earrings which apparently were worn at her wedding to Prince Albert.  How strange that these were not kept in the line of succession to the UK crown and went off to Norway.  Pic was on A Tiara A Day site.

And the Prince of Wales??  I think he has done a decent job as heir over the past 50 years.  Despite his rather complicated personality I believe he has done his best to serve the public good over the years.

I appreciate that they are young and are trying to lead a semi-normal life however, their position and privilege mean sacrifice and duty above all the rest.  That is their job and that is what they need to do.  I am a convinced Monarchist but the activities of the Queen´s grandchildren do not help a monarchist cause.  Yes, the Duke of Cambridge is a serving RAF officer but I think the time has come for him to fully embrace the firm and not opt out of what is not suitable for him.  Harry´s visit to Lesotho is admirable but he shouldn´t forget that his first duty lies in the UK which also has a part of its population living in eceonomic misery.  The York princesses are a case apart...  somebody needs to ake a decision on whether or not they will be Royals (and by that I mean do what Royals do ie. visit hospitals, factories, engage with the people), or will not be Royal in which case I think they should renounce their HRH and Princess titles and disappear. 60 years of hard work by HM and The DofE appears to be squandered by this highly privileged and spoilt generation.

Kate looks wonderful, I think. She looks well! Thanks for the photos.

Did you hear about her slip up, prompting people to think she's having a little girl? Took a teddy and said, "Ooh is this for our d...." stopping hastily, then saying, "Thank you so much."

I think the majority of the British population would look great if they were tanned from Mustique and just back from a weekend in Switzerland!  Hate to be a grinch, but I just cannot warm to this couple...

Iberian Royal Families / Re: King Juan Carlos & Queen Sofia of Spain

I think there are those who believe she is too strong a wife. Remember Felipe's grandmother Queen Frederica of Greece. I think Queen Sophia found the balance after seeing her mother's example. She is very beloved in Spain (even in Greece too) and I think she should continue. I agree that if Juan Carlos has health issues, he should consider abdicate. However he is a strong character and I do not believe he will.

I was referring to Letizia Ortiz.
