Would the family really bring Olga's cat on the yacht instead of leaving it at home?
I thought the yacht had cats anyway (hence the kitten pictures)?

Thanks for the reply, edubs31! That's exactly the bit I've come across. There was also an account of one guards suicide(?) I find these stories to be incredibly fascinating. Your retelling is no exception. I wish there was more information about these young guards.

I am working on a project and I'm looking for help in locating information on Ivan Nikolaievitch Kleshchev.
Kleshchev was a young guard/sharpshooter at the Ipatiev House and is said to have witnessed the murder through a window. I've been able to locate a bit of information, the same bit, in a couple of books like The Last Tsar by Radzinsky. I'm hoping there is more information on him somewhere.
Hope someone can help!

No worries. I wish there were more pictures of Anastasia with her hair up as well. It's interesting how they all had their own, slightly different ways of putting their hair up.

I didn't mean to imply you wished to debate, I was just stating that there had never been any doubt that it was Maria so I was confused as to why you were suggesting it was Olga. Here is another from the same time. I had a larger, clearer version but I can't find it in my unorganized computer at the moment.

No... It is definitely Maria. I have no idea why you would presume it to be Olga. The other photographs from this day, also in the Mauve room, show it is plainly Maria and Anastasia. It is 1915 and Maria was allowed to put her hair up slightly early, for whatever reason. There has never been any debate on who was in this photograph.

Browsing and just now saw this. Thought I would reply although it's been quite a while.

I have never read anything that ever came close to suggesting a crush, or even a favorite officer/guard/etc. To my knowledge, there is no record of a personal favorite male of any sort when it comes to Anastasia. The only thing I've ever seen that remotely resembled a 'crush' was either a diary or letter (thought it was in A Lifelong Passion but can't find it now) which simply stated that a very young Anastasia was pleased with a cousin and kept calling him a 'nice little boy' and gave him flowers. She was a child at the time so I don't think that's what you're looking for. This isn't to say she didn't have her crushes/favorites but there is definitely no record of any. She was definitely charming and outgoing when it came to being social. Unfortunately there are no diaries of Anastasia's.
