I'm so sad to hear this.  It was his book that got me really interested in the Romanovs and Russian history.  Nicholas and Alexandra is truly a must read for anyone interested in Russian history or the Royal families of Europe.

The Tudors / Re: Anne Boleyn

Anne Boleyn for me is the most interesting of Henry’s wives. I’ll start off by saying that I don’t think she was guilty of the things Henry accused her of like witchcraft and adultery. She was an intelligent woman and very ambitious for a woman of her time. She was outspoken, sharp-witted, and knew how to use her assets to get what she wanted. I think Henry did love her at first but when she failed to produce a son he tired of her and decided to get rid of her for political reasons.

Tsarevich Alexei Nicholaievich / Re: Alexei and Hemophilia

It's true that back in the early 20th century most hemophiliacs did not live past 20 but there were exceptions.  Prince Leopold lived to be 30 while Prince Waldemar lived past 50.  It's difficult to say how much longer Alexei would have lived had there not been the revolution.

I've been wanting to watch it but not sure it if would be worth my time. I admit I'm somewhat of a nitpick when it comes to historical dramas.  I'm much more of a documentary person.  If anyone has watched it I'd appreciate any feedback.

The Tudors / Re: Books/Movies on the Tudors and Plantagenets

I have been reading Allison Weir's series on Henry VIII's wives.  They are fiction but they are well written and an overall good read. So far there are books on Catherine Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, and Anne of Cleves.

Hello everyone!
I'm Ceridwen but you can call me Ceri. I live in Wichita Kansas and love studying about history especially Tsarist Russia and England under the Tudors and the Stuarts.  I also like medieval history and ancient Rome and Egypt.  I think I first became interested in the Romanovs while in high school and our history teacher showed us the movie Nicholas and Alexandra. History is an interest of mine but my career is teaching. I teach preschool and I love it. (Yes, 3-4 is a bit young to start teaching about history) Other inters of mine include sports, (Go K. State, Go Chiefs, Go Royals) computers, sloths, horses, cats, and reading. I look forward to reading and participating in the discussions here. It looks like I can learn a lot here.
