Very interesting... I've always been curious who she was close friends with. It must have been interesting to have such a connection in the government too.

The poor Count and Countess Tastichev! From what I remember, Mme. Naryshkina found her own way out of Russia!

Was the Princess Sophie Volkonsky you refer to the mother of Sofka Dolgoruky and her second husband?

In a New York Times article on the wedding of Victoria Louise I found mention of her two former governesses who attended the wedding. One was French and one was English. I'm assuming the latter is Anne Topham. I was wondering if anyone knew who the French governess was.

Besides Franz Ferdinand's stepmother and half-sisters, did anyone else attend the wedding of the Archduke and Sophie?

Thank you for that. Is there any details on the Kleinmichel family in that book? They're a family I've been trying to track down for some time now.

Ashdean, you are probably right. I do find it odd that she didn't accompany the Empress to the Crimea and out of Russia. I couldn't find any details on her in "Little Mother of Russia". I was disappointed to find that this book does not contain any information on her servants (i.e. "Kiki" Greenveld, her Cossack bodyguards, and her manservant Vigiss). I did find out in "Lost Fortunes of the Tsars" that the latter three were with the Dowager Empress until her death.

Besides Countess Mengden, the Dowager Empress had another lady in waiting, Countess Olga Alexandrovna Heyden. According to "Little Mother of Russia", Countess Heyden was with the Dowager Empress in Kiev before her flight to the Crimea. I was wondering if anyone knew what became of Countess Heyden after the revolution.

This must be Princess Alexandra Pavlovna Shuvalova Wiazemsky who married Count Alexander Nikolaievich Fersen. I was curious ashdean, do you know the names of Alexander's sisters? I have Paul Nikolaievich, Alexander Nikolaievich, and Elisabeth Nikolaievna Fersen; the children of Nicholas and Sophia Dolgoruky Fersen. I remember reading that they had several other daughters.

Karl and Zita were accompanied into exile by a cook, a maid, and Count and Countess Hunyadi. In a contemporary newspaper article, the former Emperor mentions that they are to be joined by their tutor, governess, nurse, and his wife's companion. I'm assuming that this would be a lady in waiting to the former Empress Zita. In Imperial Twilight, three ladies in waiting are mentioned, including Countess Nora Nostitz and Countess Agnes Schonborn. I was wondering if anyone knew which of these ladies later joined the Ex-Empress as her companion. From reading Imperial Twilight I'm assuming the Countess Schonborn.

Thank you ashdean. I've been moderately successful in tracking down the wives of the Princes Wiazemsky. At least most of their families managed to escape! It's very difficult to track the genealogies of these families out on the web!

During my research I've noticed that there was an Elisaveta Dmitrievna Sheremeteva who married Prince Boris Leonidovich Wiazemsky and an Irina Dmitrievna Sheremeteva who married Count George Dmitrievich Mengden. Does anyone know if they were related and if so, were they also the daughters of Dmitri and Irina (Vorontzova-Dashkova) Sheremetev?

I found that Rodzianko's wife was Anna Nikolaievna Golitsyna, the daughter of Prince Nicholas Mikhailovich Golitsyn and his wife, the former Countess Maria Sergeevna Sumarokova. This is how she was related to the Yussupov family.

In "The Fate of the Romanovs," it says that Ersberg was taken away with Hendrikova, Schneider, Tatishchev, and Volkov. I never knew that she was one of those arrested. Was she one of the seventeen who left by train with Buxhoeveden, Gibbes, and Gilliard from Ekaterinburg?

Does anyone know the circumstances leading to the death of Princess Nina Vladimirovna Bockmann Golitsyna? I noticed that she was the daughter-in-law of the former Prime Minister Prince Nicholas Golitsyn.

Does anyone know if there was a connection, if any, between the Grand Duchess Marie Pavlovna's Poutiatine in-laws and Grand Duke Michael's friends the Poutiatines?
