Having Fun! / Re: You know you're obsessed with the Romanovs when... Part 2
« on: February 03, 2010, 04:29:04 PM »
^ Exactly. And it's sad that America is that way, considering it is a country made up of people from all over the world. You'd think Americans would be a tad more open minded.

maybe it's because many of those people came here to escape monarchies and stuff like that.  IDK.  My mom came here because her sister dragged her to go to school...

Quote
You know that you're obssesed with the Romanovs when your History/Geography teacher talks about Russia and you expect that they talk about something related to the Romanovs XD
...lol! and shocked when they don't!

Happens a ton, especially in American schools.  i know I probably sound like some American-hating terrorist or something, but I get pretty ticked off on how America doesn't like royalty, unless it's a Disney princess.  They're not THAT bad for the the most part...

that's an extremely inflammatory statement.   do you know for sure it happens in American schools?  I'm an American so i beg to differ. Where did you get the idea about disney princesses? where did you get the idea that America doesn't like royalty?  in college i specifically took a course in Imperial Russian history.  i loved it and i wanted to learn more.  the Forum is giving me that opportunity.

I don't believe you're a sound alike  American terrorist  but i think you have been misinformed.  America is a democratic nation therefore we have no royal rulers.  we have presidents.  in Europe
do you learn about USA presidents?

i do agree America is a nation of people from all over the world.   everyone is able to have an opinion just as you have stated yours.  i joined this Forum so i could learn about the Romanovs and i have  but i do believe we all can learn  from each other regardless of our school background, nationality and /or anything else.

Kind Regards,
imperatrice

Olga Nicholaievna / Re: Question About/Need Help With Picture(s)
« on: February 01, 2010, 07:28:58 PM »
i found this on ebay and since the seller always sells rubbish with "royalty" Ids i dediced to ask about it here.

This picture says its Olga. I ve seen picturtes of baby olga and for what i ve seen, its very possible its here but i need second thoughts

I actually think it really might be Olga.
Don't you think the background is a little uncommonly undignified for an imperial photo? I've never seen a royal in those days photographed in front of such an industrial outbuilding, not even in photos from their private albums, only from photos taken in exile or captivity. (Though it could very well be from a courtyard at a home farm or an agricultural estate.) If it was an imperial photo, it sure wasn't intended for publication, but comes from a private album, and then it ending up on e-Bay is even less likely.

I'm no expert, will be interesting to hear if experts think that this odd-looking photo could be imperial.
Well, these are all the Grand Duchesses - in front of what might be a stable, so I wouldn´t dismiss the picture just because of the building...

But you DO have a point.

I've seen this seller on e-bay also.  just curious  why do you say her stuff is rubbish?  the seller say she has  C O A for it.

by the way who do you think is the lady in the background?

Palaces in St. Petersburg / Re: Private rooms of the Winter Palace
« on: September 23, 2009, 04:06:48 PM »
For anyone who might be interested I would recommend this excellent book: "The Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg."  It was published in 1994 by Alain
de Gourcoff, Editeur, 18, rue d"Aumale, Paris, IXe: and again in 1995 by the State Hermitage Museum. The preface is written by Mikhail Borisovitch Piotrovsky.
It contains the collection of watercolor portraits of the rooms of the Winter Palace commissioned by Tsar Nicholas I, and completed under Tsar Alexander II. The watercolors of the rooms are fantastic. Both the state rooms and the private rooms of the imperial family are here with a good explanation of the rooms and their decor, in English. There is also an excellent floor plan of the rooms in use as of the reign of Alexander II. For any one interested in how the Romanovs used the Winter Palace this book is a must, but it is expensive.

i just checked bookfinder $503.99

wow!!  that's about 3.3 million dollars
