Alexandra Feodorovna / Re: what would you say...?

Good suggestions, all, but these are all spoken from hindsight - which Empress Alexandra of course did not have in 1913.

If any of us could go back to 1913 and chat with her, would she believe our warnings about the approaching catastrophe?  Unless we were able to convince her that we were visiting from the 2010s - a tough sell - I don't believe she would heed our warnings, any more than she heeded later warnings as Revolution erupted outside the palace windows.

Interesting, especially the one about "sitting."  I can imagine it arose from there not being much to do in prison except for sitting - and probably lamenting about the unfairness of it all.  If I can remember correctly, it's used a lot in "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich."  "Sitting out his term" is a bit incongruous given how busy the prisoners were every waking moment.

So good to see the place being recognized.

Awesome video, gleb.  That a bombed out shell can be restored to such splendor using the various techniques is amazing.

I did some checking and found that there have been some changes at Photobucket since their disastrous policy change in 2017.  Once-blurred images (approx. 60 million of them) have been restored.  Management has been replaced and new, more reasonable pricing policy adopted.  Prices are $4.99/mo for 25GB beginner plan, to $11.99/mo for unlimited photo storage.

Still not free, but much better than $400/mo.

Details can be found at this article:  https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/24/18701132/photobucket-photo-storage-pricing-flickr

You weren't imagining, David_Newell.  These rooms are large:  30'x30'x30'.  The bedroom only looks smaller because the bed alcove takes up so much room.  Perhaps it was originally planned that way intentionally to make such a cavernous room a much more intimate and cozy bedroom.

I've come to like Imgur, too.  It's a lot more user friendly than Photobucket was.

Great pics, Ally, all of them.  I especially like the one of the family aboard Standart.

Rasputin / Re: Ella's Role

Alexandra and Ella already weren't on the best of terms due to Ella's disapproval of Rasputin.  But she must still have felt  confusion, anger, and betrayal when she read the contents of the intercepted communications.  This on top of her devastation at Rasputin's murder must have been terribly hard on her.

Oh. My. God.  This is a long awaited first glimpse at the interior reconstruction.  In color, no less.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting, Alexandre Mickaelovitch!  My imagination is soaring!

The news re arrest of at least one suspect, and likely recovery missing crown jewels is amazing, as well as a huge relief.  Hopefully, all of the stolen jewels will be found with that one cache.

I've often wondered about the value of crown jewels and lesser, though prominent, royal jewels.  They must be very expensive; I remember reading that a diamond and sapphire brooch the Queen Mother gave to Princess Diana as a wedding gift cost $350,000.  Given their lengthy and important histories and associations, the monetary value of crown jewels must be incalculable.
