The Alexander Palace / Anatoly Yar-Kravchenko
« on: April 11, 2005, 10:37:40 AM »
Anatoly Yar-Kravchenko was the painter of watercolors of the rooms in the Alexander Palace that are contained in the "At Home with the last Tsar" guidebook.

Does anyone know anything about him?  -- who he was and why he was allowed to paint watercolors of the interior.

The Alexander Palace / Painting Dream of the Mother of God
« on: April 11, 2005, 10:33:31 AM »
Does anyone know anyting about the painting "Dream of the Mother of God" which hung in the Mauve Room?  (Something about the painter or anything about the painting's true meaning or type of imagery used)

Also, does anyone know how Nicholas, Alexandra or their family felt about the paining?

The Imperial Family / Diaries of NAOTMAA
« on: January 19, 2005, 05:55:33 PM »
Does anyone know why Nicholas and Alexandra didn't burn the letters they exchanged with one another during the war?

It seems to me that they should have wanted to burn these first since they probably would have done them the most damage.  For example, the parts where Alexandra discusses Raspitin's advice would have been very damaging.

Also, why did the girls feel pressured to burn their diaries -- it doesn't seem like there would have been much that was politically interesting in them.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Romanov and Imperial Russia Links / Interesting Site on Ella
« on: November 25, 2004, 09:26:18 AM »
I came across this interesting website on Ella that I thought you would enjoy.  Hopefully the pilgrimage page photos will be fixed soon.

I was watching Manor House on television last night and it got me to thinking about the Alexander Palace servants.

Did the lower level servants, such as parlor maids, scullery maids, cooks, etc., live in the palace or did they tend to have their own homes and would come to work every morning?  Also too, did they have to follow many of the same rules as their British counterparts?

Is the basement in Alexander Palace similar to that of a British country house with its many work rooms?

Since the Alexander Palace doesn't seem to have a third floor, it would seem hard to believe that all of the lower-level servants would have lived in the basement.

Any information will be much appreciated. ;)

The Alexander Palace / How Many Pictures
« on: June 18, 2004, 09:50:21 AM »

How many pictures do you have of the Alexander Palace that are not shown on this website?

Are there lots more or is this pretty much it?

If there are more, what are they of?

Just curious.

The Alexander Palace / What's in this Area
« on: April 27, 2004, 01:33:26 PM »
On the attached floor plan, what is in area 57 and all of the little rooms surrounding it?  Was this the main entrance to the palace?  What do these rooms look like?  What are the staircases (62) like and who used them?  Do you have any pictures of this area?

The Alexander Palace / Basement/Attic

Does the Alexander Palace have a basement/cellar?  If so, what was originally down there and what is it like now?

Also, does the palace have some sort of an attic?

Servants, Friends and Retainers / Anna Vyrubova's Family
« on: April 14, 2004, 10:48:35 PM »
Does any one know anything about Anna Vyrubova's family?  Were they able to leave Russia after the revolution?  Are her childhood homes still standing, etc.?

Could you tell us more about her memoirs?  What kinds of pictures does the book have?  Did you find the book interesting?  Does she give a lot of unknown facts about the Romanovs, etc.?

Servants, Friends and Retainers / Madeleine Zanotti
« on: April 13, 2004, 02:58:00 PM »
Does anyone know if there are any pictures of Madeleine Zanotti?

Also, why do we know so much about what happened to many of the other servants, but not much about her?

Where was she during the captivity in the Alexander Palace, Tobolsk and Ekaterinburg?

Does anyone have any interesting information on Grand Duke Vladimir's family?  Does anyone know if they left any diaries, personal photo albums, letters, etc. behind?

Does anyone know if Grand Duke Boris' house at Tsarkoye Selo is still standing?  What type of house is it?  What is the layout?  Are there any photos of it?

Also, what happened to Boris, Andrei and Helen after the revolution?

With regard to Kyrill, does anyone know what he did that was so horrible that his wife, Ducky, couldn't forgive him?
