The Windsors / Origins of Windsor Royal names

I started this thread so anyone can post about the origins of some royal names, in regards to the Windsors, if they know. Anything would be appreciated. In some cases, the reason why a name was selected was fairly obvious, in other cases, it is rather harder.

Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna / Ella and Sergei 2

It seems the last thread has become rather long, so this is now the place to discuss Ella and Sergei. They had more in common than you might perhaps see. They defintely built a marriage on what they had in common, and understanding, rather than dynastic considerations, however much their marriage may have seemed dynastic at times. Ella would have married Sergei had he had a more important position, but then again, perhaps she assumed their marriage would be more low key than it was. After all, she may not have known how much their marriage would be dissected and speculated about, and I don't believe he was Governor of Moscow at the time of their marriage or was he ( I'm hazy on this)? He had a low ranking position in the dynasty, so she knew in marrying him, but she may not have realized how prominent she would end up being. Then again, if Segei and Ella had not had the personalities and marriage they did, just perhaps they would be more foot notes in the Romanov dynasty; as it was, they stood out, despite being comparetively low dynastic ranking.

Why do you think is the top reason that Mary, Queen of Scots is seen as a tragic heroine? Certainly, her life was tragic, but was there more to it than that? How much do you think later interpretations play into her being seen as tragic, and how much do you think that it was her life story? I just thought it was an interesting topic.

I  know it is likely that Elizabeth I did not entertain the idea of marriage with anybody, but her last courtship if you will, was with this son of Catherine de Medici. I believe he was the only one of her foreign suitors to ever visit England. This was when she was in 40s, at the very end of any hope she could have an heir if she married. Some people assert that she knew this was her last chance for marriage and motherhood, and seemed to consider it.. he was hard to get rid of, but then like to keep him dangling. But, she liked to do that with all of them, didn't she?  Did you think it ever crossed her mind to marry him, seriously?

I tried to start this topic under that of claimants, but no one posted. What I was asking was, what do you think are the main reasons people wanted to be impostors if they were rational, or if they were deluded into it by their own thinking, what might have led them to that ( besides mental issues). Was it inheritance, desire for fame and fortune, or was it being in some cases deranged, or susceptible to illusion, was it a desire for escapism from their own realities and identities in desiring to be someone else or if not that what? Just give your theory or theories. I really want to hear views on this.

Servants, Friends and Retainers / The Buchanans

These people are the ambassador from Britiain to Russia, his wife, and daughter ( I am not sure about any more children), were friends of Ducky's at one time, before she dumped them over some petty incident, I believe at the time of the Revolution.  She was like that, unfortunately. But I thought it would be interesting to discuss them, as they were her friends, and their daughter Meriel later write her memoirs of the Russian court.

Imperial Claimants Post Here / Claimant's Reasons

I thought I would start this thread so people could contribute their understanding of what reasons claimants might have had for claiming to be survivors. There were many, but could you give you specific opinion on why, or possibly consider different cases, and then give your opinion on them. For my part, I think that desire to be somebody else, desire for fame/fortune, mental illness, and perhaps a person's confusion about their own past are reasons.

Olga Nicholaievna / Feel sorry for Olga?

I thought this was an interesting idea for a thread, after reading The Windsor thread about royals that you could feel sorry for whatever reason. Olga was consistently on this list, and there was some good discussion about her, and I thought, why is this discussion not happening in the Olga thread? I think you can feel sorry for for many reasons, not only her brutal and unjust murder at too young a age. What do you think?

Having Fun! / Best Consort-which of otma?

As a purely fun, hypothetical thread, I though it would be fun to discuss which one of otma, Olga, Tatiana, or Marie or Anastasia who would have been the best consort of these? We speculate who they might have married, but in general, which one had the best traits to be a consort of a King, etc, in a country? ( Of course after World War I, thrones were much fewer).  I'll post my own opinion later.

I changed my user name from romanov_fan to imperial angel, does anyone think it should have stayed the same??? and do you like my new user name? Just delete this topic if it does not belong on the forum, this part of the forum, etc. I chose imperial angel in honor of Grand Duchess Marie N. ( 1899-1918), My favorite Grand Duchess, an imperial angel.

Maria Nicholaievna / Grand Duchess Marie and Princess Diana

This topic is most likely dumb, but I have ran across in posts before that people believe there are common traits that Princess Diana and Marie shared. So could people post some of these, or other ones they can think of. Or debate whether my opinion that these two women had anything in common, is true or not. More widely, was any of the Grand Duchesseses like Princess Diana? I think there is potential for this topic, but I don't mean to do topics done before. Please post your opinions.
