Russian Noble Families / Biron descendants
« on: October 06, 2018, 03:22:21 AM »
Hello,

I wanted to know more about some Biron of Kurland descendants.

In my country, Serbia, there is a guy whose name is Konstantin von Biron, with the title of Baron, as he says. He has a brother, whose name is Ladislav von Biron.

They claim that they have descended from the brother of Duke Ernst Johann Biron von Kurland(1690-1772). He had two brothers, but in genealogy, I could not find their descendants. In his story, given to the newspapers, his great-grandfather came to Belgrade from Kiev in Ukraine after the revolution. He also says that his family belongs to the 6th book of nobility in Russia(I am not familiar with Russian nobility books), where it is stated that they have the right to hereditary title and coat of arms.

His connection was confirmed by mr. Dragomir Acovic, member of the Crown Council of Serbia and President of the Serbian Society for Heraldry, so I assume the story is not fake.

I just wanted to ask if anyone would have any insight to the genealogy of this baronial line of the Biron family who lived in Russia or access to this 6th book of Russian nobility where they say their name is written.

Thank you,

Marc

Russian Noble Families / The Raevskiy family
« on: March 23, 2011, 10:52:17 AM »
Well, good question...According to Russian historic Galina Moiseeva Tolstoy and Raevsky families were related...

If you have read "War and Peace" you might have noticed that Tolstoy, while described battle at Borodino, mentioned brave General Nikolai Raevsky(he used here the real name the grandfather of our "Vronski")...his grandson, also Nikolai(1839—1876) went to Serbian-Turskish war(served under General Chernyaev) got killed and was buried in Serbia...so,Tolstoi was obviously well informed about the family...

Tolstoy used prototypes of real people he knew or knew about for his novels.Thomas Mann also confirms that in his preface for the American edition of the novel "Ana Karenina".In this novel the Vronsky character also goes to Serbian-Turkish war after a love failure...At the very place Raevsky got killed and buried, the people of that place built the Russian church which was later bought by Queen Natalia of Serbia, who considered herself very much a Russian...here is a picture of his grave:

And this is that church:

And here are some images of Raevsky himself:

Hope this helps...I just wanted to make the connection between King Alexander and his upbringing, family connections with many Russian refuges(among the mentioned noble families) that came to Serbia after the revolution during his reign...

Mediatized Noble Families / Solms family
« on: February 24, 2010, 07:07:30 PM »
Solms family has various branches but what I wanted to know is who was Frederic de Solms(1815-1863),husband of Maria-Laetitia Wyse-Bonaparte,granddaughter of Napoleon's brother Lucien? He is somewhere called a Count zu Solms but this would be in contrast to the title his wife used and that is Princesse Marie de Solms...If one knows Solms genealogy there were Princely and Countly branches of the family,so a wife of a Count couldn't call herself a Princess...anyway,in genealogy sites there isn't any Friedrich von Solms who lived from 1815-1863...so if anyone know who is he?

Here is the wiki article of his wife who called herself Princesse de Solms:

P.S.This thread is,apart from my question, dedicated to Solms family,so...feel free to post anything related!

The Wittlesbachs / Amelie von Arenberg
« on: November 30, 2008, 10:19:31 PM »
Doesn't have her own thread...Princess Amelie von Arenberg, born in 1789 and died in 1823...by marriage to Duke Pius in Bayern she herself became Duchess in Bayern and grand-mother of Empress Elisabeth...We don't know nothing about her...In biography of Sissi she is mentioned as just a  mediatized Princess, although equal and related to a lot of prominent Princely families and that's why Habsburgs had second thoughts about one of Ludovika's daughters to became an Empress...

That's all I know about her...never seen any picture of hers!If someone know something more, please post!

Didn't know where to post this topic,so decided here....I am intersted in Countess Margarete Gertrud von Oeynhausen, lived from 1701-1726...She was the daughter of King George I of Great Britain and Ehrengard Melusine von der Schulenburg...She was married to Count Albrecht Wolfgang von Schaumburg-Lippe who was lover of reichsgräfin Charlotte Sophie von Bentinck-Aldenburg(I think they had illegitimate issue)...Nothing much is known about her short life, her relations with her mother and father...husband also...her son Wilhelm fought for the army of Great Britain and Hanover...never seen her picture..if anyone have some info please post!

Mediatized Noble Families / Wrede
« on: December 19, 2006, 12:34:41 PM »
Hi,I was reading somewhere that all members of this family bear the title Fürst/Fürstin von Wrede, much unlike some other families where just the head of the family is Fürst and other mambers are prinz/prinzessin or graf/gräfin...Could this be considered higher or not?I am also interested in the one fact:was this family considered as mediatized or no(they married equally into some old families such as Habsburg,Oettingen-Oettingen,Lobkowicz,Arenberg,Solms-Braunfels)?And if anyone knows something about the family background and some interesting members it would be great...
