Forum Announcements / OTMA by Kate Moira Ryan, February 2011
« on: February 13, 2011, 08:55:32 PM »
Hey everyone! I just wanted to write an announcement that the students at my school, the University of Denver, are putting up the play "OTMA" by Kate Moira Ryan February 25-27.  I'm actually in it (I play Tatiana) and if you're in the area you should definitely check it out.  There's a thread with a lot of information about the New York 2005 production but this one is more current so...

OTMA is the story of the four daughters of the last Tsar of Russia.  Under house arrest, they rehearse Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard and deal with the emotional turmoil of being imprisoned by their own people. The play runs February 25th-26th at 11pm and February 26th-27th at 3pm.  Admission is free. It is located in the White Box Theatre in JMAC. Ask me or the reservation line for directions. Limited Seating: Please call (303) 871-3163 for reservations.

Presented by the University of Denver Department of Theatre Student Productions
Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.

The Tudors / Tudor Destinations in London
« on: January 08, 2008, 02:41:50 PM »
I'll be studying this summer in London and was wondering if anyone has information about visiting Tudor palaces/houses there. My class will likely go to Hampton Court Palace. Last year I went to Westminster Abbey and don't want to pay the fee again this year, since I've seen it already. I've also been to the Tower of London, which was almost disappointing because the place where Anne Boleyn (and others) were executed was covered over with an unsightly tarp (some archaeologists are working on it), but I do recommend it to people just because the Beefeater tour was so lovely.

Suggestions?

In two weeks I'm leaving for 5 weeks in Europe and I was wondering if anyone familiar with any of the following cities knows of a good bookstore they'd recommend. I'll be in Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Manchester, Liverpool, Dublin, and London. (Anyone else looking for a bookstore post here too!)

Having Fun! / Just to put this out there...Romanov style!
« on: June 25, 2006, 09:40:07 PM »
I've noticed lately that there are a lot of threads where something is posted and while it's nice, it's not really a conversation and only gets one or two replies and then just dies and floats to the bottom until someone bumps it back up with a "oh, that's nice" or whatever. I hope the mods approve of this thread, because I thought that this could be the little thread of Romanov non sequitors. If you have an interesting fun fact, random Romanov thought, have found something interesting, or whatever, just post it here instead of making a new topic for it and clogging the board! ;)

A bit silly, but students graduating from school in Russia will be celebrating in the Grand Kremlin Palace.

Having Fun! / Where's Waldo? Romanov Version!
« on: May 23, 2006, 05:18:20 PM »
Another little game! Here's how it works: I post a collage that is all one Romanov- EXCEPT somewhere in the collage there is a picture of another member of the family hidden. Your job is to find the wrong one!

Collage 1

Edit: It's showing up pretty small for some reason. But you can still see the wrong one, so..

Books about the Romanovs and Imperial Russia / "Journey Across Russia"
« on: March 03, 2006, 04:31:26 PM »
Has anyone read "Journey Across Russia: The Soviet Union Today" by Bart McDowell and Dean Conger? It's a book of photos from all across Russia (I think it was sponsered by National Geographic). It was one of the books my dad gave to me that he used in college, and I must say it's probably my favorite non-Romanov photo book. It's got a wide variety of photos, including a few of imperial palaces. I don't know if it's still in print, but I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Russia itself.

The Imperial Family / Court Photographers
« on: February 12, 2006, 08:42:42 PM »
I'm looking for the names of the photographers who took pictures of the imperial family (NAOTMAA only is what I'm looking for). I also need the year of their death. (Doesn't need to be exact, but I'm looking for pre 1937ish or not.) Thank you!
