Imperial Succession and the Throne / Prince or Grand Duke?
« on: November 20, 2008, 08:55:13 PM »
I have recently been wondering and am not too sure about this... Why were the children of a grand duke or duchess named prince or princess instead of also being bestowed the title grand duke or duchess? For example, Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna's daughter Irina was called a princess. Why is it so?

help me on this one here guys. haha.

I don't really have any important historical dates, well I do but it's not AP related so I won't put it (All I will say is happy B-day Mike D.!   :-*)
But this is related:
We started the Russian Revolution in my Honors World Studies class today, and my teacher actually let me teach the class for the day!  :o ;D
Just wanted to share that.

Annie  :)

We are currently studying WW1 in my honors world studies class, and I am happy because it is also for the Russian Revolution! ;)
But we watched this movie "Guns in August" and they show a lot of clips from that time, and many clips of Nicholas commanding troops etc.
Has anyone else seen it?

Olga Nicholaievna / Olga Teaching German???
« on: February 28, 2005, 05:49:13 PM »
It says in "The House of Special Purpose" a memoir book by Sydney Gibbes that Olga Nicholaievna who believed she was too old for school studies, taught some German to Tatiana in her spare time. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought none of the girls were fluent in German. I know that Olga believed that her "schooling days" were at an end, but general knowledge dictates that perhaps the girls knew a smidgen of the language, but not enough to teach the language! So is this true? I doubt it, but the source is pretty trustworthy.

The Final Chapter / There And Back Again...
« on: February 26, 2005, 02:50:12 PM »
I was watching the Discovery channel Documentary "Last of the Czars" and it said while Nicholas was on his way back to Russia after his world tour, he and his companions stayed at the Governer's mansion in Tobolsk. Yes, THE same one.
Is this true? I've never heard of that before. ???

The Final Chapter / Outside the Ipatiev House
« on: February 15, 2005, 07:34:57 PM »
Hello. I have always wondered what this was. It looks religious;was it there before the Romanovs arrived or was it built for them by the villagers?

Thanks for looking.

Olga Nicholaievna / Being Born "In the Purple"...
« on: February 14, 2005, 03:24:49 PM »
Is it true that Olga Nicholaievna was the only GD who wasn't born in the purple since Nicholas became Tsar in 1896, but Olga was born in 1895?

(For those who don't know, born in the purple means while the parents of the child were Tsar and Tsarina, or ruling. Check out ''The Last Grand Duchess" by Ian Vorres to see.)

The Stuarts of Scotland / Dolls of the Stuarts

Hello. I thought some people here might be interested in this pretty doll, but I didn't want to put it in the Romanov Dolls section. So here it is.

Mary, Queen of Scots:

I think it's very realistic!
I ran across it looking for OTMA dolls at Crees and Coe dollmakers co.

The Final Chapter / The "Medicines"
« on: January 26, 2005, 08:24:13 PM »
Hello all. I was just wondering if any one thought the same thing as I: Don't you think Alexandra Feodorvna should have titeld the jewels something less pecualiar than the "medinces". I mean come on, if the soliders or the comissar ever read her diary as im sure they did, don't you think they would have hought it odd she arragned the medinicenes almost every day? ???
